Has anyone taken the A+ and A+Net boot camp through Netcom? Worth it?
Was it worth the 4 grand? Did you take the Vegas program? I read a forum posting saying Netcom was a "scam and fraud" but I didn't think that was very likely when the company has so many credentials to show their effectiveness.
Am I better off studying through books? Part of why I want to take it is so I don't have to self-pace myself and ONLY learn from reading about it. I want the hands-on part that only classes can provide.
1 AnswerOther - Computers1 decade agoWhat should we do in Seattle?
My husband and I will be there from July 12th through the 14th. So far we are interested in: space needle, aquarium/discovery center, walk along pier areas, the "duck" tour, and pike place market. I am looking up tons of info online but all these sites are overwhelming me, so I need a NATIVE who is 'cultured' and knows where the hip spots are, and who possibly knows what special events might be occurring during those times we're going. Thanks :)

3 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoExternal hard drive on Mac OS X not showing files?
The icon of the drive shows up on the desktop but when I double-click it, it doesn't bring up the files within the drive. When I do 'Get Info' it shows the file information, like how much space is used and how much is left, etc. so that at least tells me that nothing has been erased. I ran a disk utility and clicked 'Verify Disk' and got: "Error: filesystem verify or repair failed" but with no reason WHY it failed. Then when I clicked 'Repair Disk' it said "The disk could not be unmounted." When I tried to un-mount it from the desktop, it said it couldn't because the disk was in use. When I re-started my computer and re-started the drive, for a few seconds after start-up I was able to see the drive's folders listed when I double-click the drive's icon, but then they all disappear after five or so seconds. I have looked at online forums for discussions about similar problems but it's all confusing to me! Help!

1 AnswerPhoenix1 decade agoNeed to leave teaching and join corporate...advice?
I am currently a fifth-year computer teacher chomping-at-the-bit to get the heck out of this pathetic dead-end job!!! I want to do something with computers in a corporate setting and have benefits and a retirement plan.
Things I dislike most about my current job:
--low pay and not much "moving up." I started five years ago taking home $1800/month. Now I take home $2200/month (and I have a MASTER'S degree!! - doesn't seem to matter in the teaching world)
--repetition; I say the same thing five times a day, once for each period
--not learning ANYTHING new; I spit out information I already know to students whom a small percentage of care to listen
--having more and more piled onto our plates without the additional compensation
--lack of feeling of achievement, accomplishment, success, recognition
--the foul language and attitude I hear and witness daily
--recess duty!
Things about me:
I recently received my Master's in Information Systems & Management (online, so unfortunately there was not much "hands-on"). I love to learn!!!
I am an introvert and can *tolerate* working closely with people but I perform my best independently and in a QUIET setting.
I like making basic websites and I am proficient on the Mac OS X. I can do Word, Excel, etc. and some Photoshop. I like to solve problems, improve systems / make things more efficient, and I love organizing anything and everything. I like research, data, and analyzing information. But I also have a creative side.
I enjoy teaching others, but only when the pupils are eager to learn and when I know there will be some sort of benefit for all involved in the learning process.
I despise sales or anything having to do with trying to persuade others.
Not sure if mentioning hobbies helps, but I love sewing, drawing, puzzles, reading, and playing video/computer games (like Civilization and Sim City).
The people I need to respond are those currently in computer positions in a corporate setting enjoying their jobs. Please tell me what kinds of careers are out there for me based on your experience and observations in your current occupations! :)
2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoIs anyone in Phoenix watching the sky tonight?
Every one minute an airplane flies over my house coming from northeast and heading southwest. My husband and I have been timing them; they are exactly one minute apart, they each follow the exact same path, and each of them appears to be the same exact plane. I have seen at least twenty now. What is happening?!!!!!
3 AnswersPhoenix1 decade agoPutting eyelet in fabric
I followed the directions step by step but the eyelet barrel part still has yet to bend when I hammer down on the tool that you put over the washer and into the barrel. I have the eyelet face down on top of the anvil and have about four books stacked under everything and a setting mat on top of the books. I have tried using the same stuff on thin fabric, then on thick fabric and neither change the outcome. I have tried to hammer softly and then I have tried to nearly remove my fingers hammering so hard. I wonder if my neighbors are getting tired of the banging yet. Why isn't the thing bending? I am using silver Dritz 7/16" Eyelets with the tool that it goes with.
2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoverizon - account suspended - phone stolen?
I had to suspend my account because my phone was stolen. They started trying to sell me all these plans and contracts and stuff that I didn't want to think about right now because I'm very distraught. I was wondering though, what if I just left my account suspended and did nothing at all in hopes that after my contract is over I just slip out of the system? --Because I want to join whatever service it is that has the iPhone and not pay to break my verizon contract. Is that "plan" feasible?
I didn't want to call Verizon because first of all their customer service sucks (judging from my recent previous four encounters dealing with a separate account issue). Secondly, I don't want them to think I am trying to pull a fast one on them (which I want to do of course) by asking these weird questions.
3 AnswersCell Phones & Plans1 decade agoHow to mask paint when it's not a straight line?
I want to make swirly designs on the wall with about three different colors. With projects like this involving straight lines, I know that you start with one color, wait for it to dry, get that blue painter's tape and mask it off, and paint the new color right next to it. How would I do that with circular designs since tape doesn't come rounded? [And don't say cut/rip the tape into many small pieces and just rotate each piece to form into the preferred design.] Is there not some special tool that helps with this??
11 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoiWeb site > FTP client > GoDaddy-hosted domain > 403 Forbidden?
I publish my site pages from iWeb, then upload them to my hosted domain via Captain FTP. When I visit my website, I get a 403 error. I know exactly what is happening but don't know how to prevent it. . .GoDaddy, my website host, infers that the files being created by iWeb are setting permissions that don't allow the pages to be seen once they are uploaded to the host. I can fix it (after the fact) by logging into GoDaddy, going to the hosting control center, and clicking next to each file then clicking Permissions and checking the box 'Web Visible.' That's a pain! I want permissions to be set automatically for all pages and objects that are a part of the site to be Web Visible after being published by iWeb and retaining those permissions all the way through publishing at the domain. What do I do??
5 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoHow do I make a clean cut with an exacto on paper?
I can't make a clean cut of paper letters - scissors are easy but when it comes to cutting out the little insides of A's and B's and O's, etc., I have to use an exacto knife. The results are hideous - the paper is all "jaggedy." Scrapbookers, how do I make it perfect????

4 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoI want to be an interior designer, but it will be a career change...?
I am currently a computer teacher at a middle school. This is my fourth year. I'm 28. My bachelor's degree is in Education. I have a master's but it's in Information Systems & Management (none of it is related to design except for like database design or organizational design).
I don't even know where to start. I know I should read up on interior design in general, but I need to know what someone my age can do to get there more quickly than a four-year bachelor's degree. I have limited time, so doing online classes is preferable over attending a class.
I also want to know if there's money in it. If I could make what I do now I'd be fine (probably not right off the bat I realize, but maybe after a couple years' experience). And, would I work for a company? What about benefits? I have amazing benefits right now so I'm scared to leave.
