  • Natura Pets selling to P&G...?

now that the makers of EVO, Innova, Karma, California Natural, etc have sold to P&G(who make Iams/Eukanuba and test on animals), are those of you who feed these foods going to switch now? wait to see if the formula changes? hold out and hope that this change will make the prices drop without affecting quality?

do you think that, since the foods are so good, even if the quality dropped some, they would still be better than most other accessible foods, you would still feed it?

would you be pissed if you stopped feeding it, switched to another kibble much more expensive and harder to find to stay at the same level of quality, just to find out there was absolutely no change in the quality of the EVO/Innova/etc?

i don't intend for this to be a you should or should not feed this or that food argument. im simply curious for those that feed this food exclusively, or use it in their rotations plan on no longer feeding it, and like i asked, will you wait and see, or just stop feeding it now?

  • Working Dog folks/competitive event trainers?

do you ever get the giggles(for lack of a better term) while training?

where you KNOW something your dog is doing shouldn't be funny, and needs correcting, but you have to turn your head and let out a little giggle first?? Or where you are struggling NOT to laugh while you are correcting the dog?

Personally, i just think things are funny, whether they should be or not, and i KNOW its frustrating and needs dealing with, but i can't help but getting a kick out of watching a dog(yes, even my own) get snotty with a handler, try to weasel out of complying, etc.

Do any of you ever get your giggle box turned over during training?? how do you guys deal with it? Is it contagious in your club, or are you the only one laughing?

what about your dog makes you think that thing or behavior was "out of character", how did you deal with it? Has your dog done it since?

  • "no breed registered as pit bull"...?

there is also no breed officially registered as a Rottie, a Yorkie, a chi, a pom, or a lab or golden.

i can understand someone who actually does not own an APBT calling their dog a pit bull getting corrected, but someone who actually does own, well, a pit bull, why is it suddenly not ok to shorten the breeds name. We have shortend almost every dog breeds name, and lets face it -American Pit Bull Terrier is fairly long.

why is it "taboo" on YA to say pit bull when the dog in question is infact an actual APBT, but its not taboo with the other breeds?

do you think its simply the overall breed/type confusion?

if so, like i mentioned earlier, i can understand someone calling a staffy bull a pitbull getting corrected, but if the asker actually has a pittie, there is obviously no confusion there...

i mean, if ANY question has the word pit bull in it, someone will jump on and say "its american pit bull terrier", but you dont see the same people going around and telling askers with other breeds "its a yorkshire terrier, not a yorkie"

  • Intact dog Roll Call!!!!?

the s/n nazis like to spread "horror stories" of all the things that WILL(not can, they make sure to say WILL) happen , etc etc...

so, if you have an INTACT dog(whether you breed or not, i dont' care), and have not experienced all these oops litters, marking in the house, etc, PLEASE, feel free to share your (success) story here, along with how you manage your intact animals, as to prevent the unwanted.

legit-if you have intact females, do you use "panties" while she is in heat??

  • Why do people keep making excuses for their dogs?

You hear it all the time.

My dog is shy. My dog is scared of men. My dog was rescued, and we think someone in a hat beat her, because she is afraid of men in hats, blah blah blah....

Why can't people own up to the fact that their dog is just plain fearful. A good dog is not that easily ruined.

A stable dog with a good temperament can bounce from home to home and not bat an eye, ever. A stable dog isn't afraid of a falling book, a bag blowing by, or a person in a wheelchair. You can take a pup with a stable, proper temperament, leave it in an outdoor kennel from the time its weaned until its 6 months old, if you take that dog out, it will not spook, it will investigate everything, and won't be afriad of a man in a hat. Even abused dogs that are good dogs have remarkable recovery times.

So why do we keep making excuses for our fearful dogs?

why are we willing to make RIDICULOUS leaps in logic, and make up the most bizzare excuses, instead of owning the fact that we got a dog with a faulty temperament?

  • Lets talk Culling-yes, culling.?

i would like to hear from real working dog breeders out there(if any frequent here) and even the show people about how you cull your stock(be it s/n or euthanizing ), and if you do both, how you decide which you will do?

i would like answers to be well though out, and come from a purely "betterment of your program" standpoint, not a lollypops and rainbows jibberish.

    thanks.

  • Breeding and Papers....?

all this talk about people thinking just because a dog has papers, but no other genetic health testing, etc it can/should be bred, what about the opposite?

lets say(hypothetically) you have a pure pred whatever. You have OFA , BAAR, CERF, etc testing done, all normal or better. Even though the dog has no papers, you have been to some shows, and had experienced judges look your dog over, and it is an outstanding example of the breed.

The dog is also titled in whatever work it does(with high scores). The dog has steady temperament, nerves and excellent drive(all evaluated by an experienced trainer/handler).

would you do it? or would the lack of proper papers keep you from breeding the dog?

  • what do you do when...?

when your dog doesn't do what you ask it to.

    how do you correct it?

    when he won't stop humping

    when he won't come

when he puts his feet on you

    when he counter surfs.....

I'm not talking about the learning phase, i am talking about when the dog knows very well the command you have just given it, and is choosing to not obey?
