  • NSCLC/Squamous Cell Carcinoma treatment?

My mom was diagnosed last month with NSCLC/Squamous Cell Carcinoma. She is in Stage3.She saw her oncologist this week to go over her treatment plan. It seems pretty aggressive: Radiation every day and chemotherapy 2days/week concurrently for two months, & then chemo alone for an additional 2 to 3 months.

I know that radiation/chemo is difficult enough on a relatively healthy person (healthy other than the cancer); she also has liver cirrhosis and anemia. Her oncologist wasn't concerned about the cirrhosis (nor interested in the 12 medications my mom takes&said to talk to her regular doctor). We have asked her to have a 2nd opinion/consultation.

I have tried searching for info regarding the effects chemo has on someone w/liver cirrhosis, but only find information on liver cancer. Is there information re: chemo & cirrhosis? Are we right to be concerned how this treatment will affect her in regards to her liver cirrhosis (i.e. will her liver be able to handle the treatments)? Thanks!

  • Zip fly..where did the term originate?

I hope I'm putting this into the right category. My six year old just asked me a question that I'm not sure about the answer: he asked me why it was called a "fly" when I told him to zip his fly. Where did the term "fly" originate as it applies to jeans/trousers? Thanks!

  • Is any one TaeKwonDo organization better than another?

My son has been taking TKD at an ITA school for the last year, first starting out as a cub and recently attaining his green belt.

When I first started looking into a program for him there were several TKD academies around, but I chose the one closest to us after checking it out. It was only after that I realized there were different organizations.

For the most part I don't think they let the kids test the next belt if they aren't ready to advance: my son started out w/2 other boys in the same Cub class - one graduated with my son to junior white belt class but has stayed as a white ever since while the other just graduated from the Cub class.

I am happy with his instructors and they seem genuinely intent on teaching the kids and not just being a money machine, as I've read about some places. He takes classes 4 days a week (could be 5, but we're keeping it at 4 for now).

Anyway, I just wanted to see as any difference better or worse between all the organizations.

    Thanks!

  • Who is right? Food storage debate between me and my husband.?

Not sure if this is the correct category, so I'm sorry if it's not.

My husband opened a bag of potato chips and we don't have an extra clip. I told him to put the bag in a storage container - I meant put the bag with the chips in the container. He just dumped all the chips in the container. He maintains that it won't matter anyway - air moves regardless; I said they would stay fresher longer being in the bag while in the container. Who is right?

If you have any articles you can point to regarding this, that would be very helpful!

    Thanks!

  • Potty training a very stubborn 2 1/2 year old girl.?

She goes to preschool 3days/week & I'm always getting reports on when she potties there. They say she is very agreeable & sits on the toilet & goes.

When she's here I get an attitude. I ask her to go potty & she'll start crying that she doesn't want to. Sometimes I let it go & ask her again in a few minutes and other times I have her sit anyway. Once she is sitting on the toilet she goes-I make a big deal of it saying what a big girl she is & she gets to choose a favorite sticker.

When she has on her cloth training pants she still pees in there. If I ask her if she has to go pee she'll say no; then if I ask her if she's peed in her pants she says yes-doesn't phase her that she's in wet pants. At night she wears a pullup;she sits on the potty before bed but as soon as she's off & in bed, she'll poop in her pullup & then grin at me & say she's pooped in her pants. Any suggestions?

P.S. I have an older boy- I didn't have these issues w/him! I thought girls were supposed to be easier!
