I'm from New York State, educated in our fine public schools to middle school. So I got the basics before escaping to a private school for the finer points of education from 8th through 12th grades. I have my bachelor of science degree in Political Science-International Relations and Foreign Area Studies in Latin America, with a minor in Spanish. My core curriculum in college was heavily engineering, so I am well-versed in both politics and math. Please feel free to ask me anything.

  • How long are you legally expected to wait at a broken red light before proceeding through a solid red light?

Would prefer opinions from cops/lawyers. The situation is you're sitting at a red light waiting to go straight through and you see it change several times allowing every other direction to go multiple times but your light never changes. At what point can you treat it as a stop sign, check for other traffic and then proceed through?

  • Whose number is 448-663-955011?

I keep getting calls with the above number listed in the caller id, but obviously, that's not a normal US number... When I answer, it's just dead air, so I hang up... any ideas what's happening?? And more importantly, how can I get them to stop calling?

  • Who would've thought that Newt Gingrich was a complete sellout?

In Newt's "debate" with Sen. John Kerry, he surprised even Kerry by his sudden change of heart wherein he sounded like an Al Gore press agent. What happened??

I am not saying which perspective is correct at all. Maybe Gore is 100% right, and Gingrich saw the light somehow, but it clearly contrasts with every stance he has ever taken in the past. He didn't say that he recently came to this realization. He simply acted like he always agreed with Kerry and Gore. Thus, he is a sellout. Who knew?

  • What happened to the Royal British Navy??

1st: if the Iranian military tried to seize myself or any men or women under my charge, I am duty bound to defend myself and those service members.

Art. II: I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist.

2nd: if my actions were in vain and we were captured, I and all my fellow US Armed Forces service members am further bound by our code of conduct not to assist our enemies and captors.

Art. III: If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

Art. V: I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause.

If these British sailors were Americans, I would be ashamed of them for their conduct while captive. Does the Royal Navy not have any such code of conduct???

  • How is this not an act of war?

Iran's navy seized British boats and sailors from Iraqi territorial waters. This should be considered an act of war, and they should be issued an ultimatum immediately, turn them over or be prepared to accept the consequences. A military attack on another nation's military IS an act of war, so how is this not considered one??

  • What unique rights & responsibilities do Puerto Ricans have or lack compared to Americans in the 50 states?

  • Is it constitutional for the legislative branch to subpoena the executive branch?

The forefathers of this great nation designed a system of checks and balances. We recognize those as 3 co-equal branches: legislative, executive, and judicial. The courts blocked evidence against Rep. Jefferson (D) because it was supposedly a violation of that separation since the FBI and Department of Justice fall under the executive branch. How then can the legislative branch regularly attack the executive branch with subpoenas?

This sounds more like tiered branches with executive below legislative and judicial...

  • Can a juvenile criminal's name be released?

I always heard that any juvenile delinquent's records were always sealed and their names were with-held due to their age. I'm not asking whether this is right or wrong. I was just surprised when I read a news story out of Ohio about a 13 year old charged with 128 felonies. I'd understand if he committed murder and was charged as an adult, but from what I got out of the story, he is in juvenile detention... So are juvenile records releasable or not? They gave not only his name, but posted a picture. Again, not asking whether it's right or wrong, just is it legal?

  • What were the most influential movies/films in your life?

It's Oscar season, and everybody's talking about best picture and best actor/actress and so on, but I think what really matters is how they affect us. So which movies had the biggest effect on your life and personal outlook? After a few responses, I'll add in mine, I don't want to immediately sway the responses...

  • What happened to the Congressional Pay Raise for 2007?

And why does Yahoo Answers keep removing this question???? I've asked this question twice before, and it was removed both times! I just want to know if anyone has a credible source for whether the 2007 US Congress received their automatic pay raise or not. There was some talk by Democrat leaders that they would block it, but I haven't seen anything in the news since they actually took power. Did the Congress get the raise or not???

  • Who knew former President Carter was an anti-semite?

Okay, so maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but I'm rather shocked by all the news I'm hearing since he put out his book supporting the Palestinian cause.

    1. Personally lobbied for the re-entry of a Nazi SS officer into the US after being deported for concealing his Nazi ties.

    2. When overseeing the establishment of a council to memorialize the holocaust, he said there were "too many Jews" in the council. Also, his people apparently denied acceptance into the board for one Presbyterian Holocaust historian because his name sounded too Jewish.

    3. He wrote and published a book opposing an ally of the United States (Israel), and bolstered a group that supports terrorists and terrorism in the Middle East.

My impression of President Carter prior to this book release was generally more of a well-meaning but incompetent administration, so did anyone else know about this stuff?

  • What all does a "Best Man" do?

My brother just asked me to be his best man, and I am overjoyed that I will be. However, shortly after hanging up the phone, I realized I don't really know what all that entails. Of course, I've heard that it includes the bachelor party, and giving a toast at the reception, but what else? Anyone have any suggestions or resources I should check out?

  • To be or not to be?

That is the question: whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them?

  • Would you vote for someone with the bad luck of being named Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, or Osama bin Laden?

Not the actual infamous characters, but someone unfortunately named that? I ask in reference to the issue of Barack Hussein Obama's name. Liberal supporters raise their nose and say that anyone dumb enough to vote based on a name isn't smart enough to vote at all. Honestly though, what significance does it have? I think the candidate's merits should normally be the primary concern of voters, but I doubt anyone with those names could get elected head sewer worker...

  • Has the UN accomplished anything towards world peace?

The initial premise of the UN is that countries would work out their differences in debate rather than war, and band together to fight anyone who violated its members. Currently, liberalism promotes the idea that organizations like the UN can solve all problems rather than individual countries (realism).

Now liberals repeatedly suggest that we seek authorization from the UN for all military actions or just let the UN solve conflicts. Answers to this question suggest the UN could save Darfur: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200701...

So what's the track record? It doesn't enforce its resolutions, sanctions often fail to persuade or fail to be honored, and military actions (Korea is still an ongoing war authorized by the UN...) repeatedly fail. Can anyone give me examples of where the UN succeeded towards world peace?

  • Why do liberals support radically conservative Islamic states?

So liberals are obviously leftist by definition of the political spectrum. If you're intellectually honest, then you have to admit the state sponsors of terrorism are actually extreme right in their reactionary views to keep their countries centuries behind the rest of the Progressive movement (women's rights, voters' rights, legal system, secularization, etc.). So why do the Liberals act like Ahmadinejad is their best friend? Is it just their hatred of the current administration?

  • Has anyone killed Highlord Krull?

In World of Warcraft, Blizzard has unleashed an uber elite, Krull, as part of the workup towards the Burning Crusade release. It has killed King Bronzebeard in IF, and, as far as I know, never died on my realm, Aerie Peak. Has anyone seen it killed?? Also, does Krull attack the Horde cities too? Or just the Alliance?

  • Is "awares" actually the proper plural form of the adjective aware?

  • Why is the book America Deceived banned?

Okay, somebody said this book was banned by Amazon.com and some other store because it has some hidden secrets the government doesn't want you to know about or something... I read the first chapter online, and it's nothing more than a fictional novel about made up characters, so what's the big deal? It's not the greatest work I've read, but I don't see why it was supposedly banned???
