I am in the process of beginning to collect info on my family tree. I am thinking about buying Family Tree Maker 2008 Platinum Edition so that I have the six months free on Ancestry.com, but is it worth the money? For those of you out there who have used the program and Ancestry.com, do you need both? Or would a subscription to Ancestry.com be all that I would need?

Any other advice would be much appreciated...

When I am knitting a basic hat with a ribbed edge then stickinette top, my ribbing is looser then my stockinette. I have even used a smaller needle then switched to a larger size for the body of the hat. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I thought that ribbing is supposed to cinch in to create a tighter edge. Please help. I knit quit a bit, but I am really stumped here.

I read an article yesterday on MSN.com that was about shipping abandoned animals from a war torn area in Lebanon to the USA for adoption. I am an animal lover, but I have a problem with this. The cost of this mission is $250,000 to ship 300 animals. While I am all for saving animals, there is already an over population problem in US shelters. Animals are being euthanized daily, and we are shipping more in? I think the money could have been put to use more logically, and been able to help many more animals in the process.

Am I entirely off base here, or does anyone else agree with me?
