9 AnswersFashion & Accessories7 years agoSilly high school love...?
I am a 17 year old female student, currently a senior in high school. I'm at the brink of being in a relationship with an 18 year old freshmen in college and while I try not to take it so seriously, it's so disheartening to acknowledge that 'high school relationships never work out' and that 'people change' because 'they don't know what they want at such a young age'... which is all true, I understand. But it's so hard to face these facts while I'm so happy about being with him in this moment. I don't want to hold out because I know that after I graduate, I might move away for college, I'll change, meet different people and we'll grow apart. If there really is no hope at all, then what are we expected to do? Forget about the relationship and move on with our lives? I would just hate to commit to something that I know won't last.
2 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoTips for traveling to Brazil?
Hello! I will be traveling to Rio de Janeiro on July 21st and staying for a week. I am a 17 year old girl from the US and I'm looking for some tips or advice for a safe and fun trip.
1) The flight will be around 20 hours (stops included). What do you recommend I bring to occupy my time? Besides sleeping and watching movies, does anyone know any creative ways to pass the time?
2) I hear a lot about the crime in Rio - any tips on staying safe? Or any other general advice about traveling to Brazil?

4 AnswersOther - Music8 years agoI feel stupid, am I "in love"?
Whatever I say, I promise I am not exaggerating or purposely being corny. This is the truth.
When I go to bed, I can't stop thinking about him. He ends up being the last thought in my head before I fall asleep. When he replies to my messages, I get a butterfly feeling in my stomach. When I read his messages, I find myself smiling like a total idiot. No one has ever made me feel like the way he makes me feel. I can see my future with him. I want a future with him. But most importantly, I'm afraid to get back together with him (we dated 2 years ago when I was a freshmen) because I don't want to hurt him again.
5 AnswersSingles & Dating9 years agoHow does facebook determine who is suggested on your 'close friends' list?
Whenever I go on facebook, there is a bar on the top of my news feed suggesting a selection of my friends to become my "Close Friend". How exactly does Facebook determine who is suggested? Is it suggesting whoever starred you? Because some of the people on there, I don't even talk to or interact with very much at all.

8 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender9 years agoWhy do we have lawns?
When and where did the idea of having lawns in the front and back yard of our homes come from? Because if you think about it, it seems like such an eccentric habit that we take time to water and care for a large patch of grass in the area surrounding our houses.

5 AnswersFacebook9 years agoChoosing a college major: Hobby vs Success?
Hi, I am currently a Sophomore in high school. I am 16 with a 4.0 GPA and am planning to take IB Diploma (similar to AP classes) in the next 2 years. I'm from California, so I plan to apply to most of the UC's here (esp. UC Berkeley and UCLA) However, I was suddenly interested in the possibility of taking an Art major such as Graphic Design, Advertising, Industrial Design, etc when a couple Art schools in the area gave us a presentation in my animation class. Creativity is one of my stronger traits and I really do enjoy various forms of art including crafting, drawing, painting, and designing. I am often complimented on my artistic abilities and my animation teacher really encourages me to join IB Art next year. Often than not, I hear that an art major is very difficult to become successful in, and I feel that I won't be up for the competition. My other, and more realistic option is going into Medicine. More specifically, I have considered becoming a pediatrician. I understand that becoming one would mean a lot of commitment to those long years of school and practice not to mention the stress and loans. I'm confident that I have the academic abilities to go in the medical field, but I am also hopeful for success in the art field also. What do you think is the best possible choice for me that would guarantee both success and happiness?
4 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoFeedback on poem: Beautiful Monster?
For my English class, I am required to write a free verse poem about a political or social matter which includes:
magical realism, simile, metaphor, alliteration, assonance, personification, allusion, antithesis, repetition, imagery, pun and paradox.
(Excuse the lack of flow and random literary features, it's required to include all noted above)
I'm writing about how we created Technology (embodied as a woman), how she turned against us and that we are forever trapped in her hands. Please give me feedback and advice, thank you!
Beautiful Monster
She was born enveloped in sunlight
We caressed her
With hopes and
New beginnings
Her thoughts echoed with the clinks of bolts
Black blood pumped through her steel veins
The wheels in her head sparked inspiration
Her hands lifted our worldly burdens
Her metallic voice spun truth and deceit
But with time her deceiving beauty
surpassed her mechanical heart
never satisfied we fed her more
and with more she was never satisfied
She broke away
peace by peace
Slowly she lures us into her trap
Like the insidious clouds before the storm
Slowly we fall into her grasp
Her iron fingers, no longer warm
Slowly we submerge into addiction
Her poisonous wine, no longer water
Her benign purpose no longer conviction
What happened to our daughter?
Her petrifying stare
Captured us in gray trance
Drowned us in our own euphoric madness
We are forever frozen in fatality
She has been ignited
Her wildfire unleashed
The world is covered in flames
1 AnswerPoetry9 years agoVerizon phone from ebay won't activate?
I ordered a Samsung Reality from ebay a few days ago (Seller had 99.7% positive feedback) that claimed to be ready for activation with a "good esn". However, when I tried to activate it (dialed *228, pressed 1, entered #,etc) it said "we are unable to program..for assistance call etc etc"
Then I thought the phone had a bad esn so I checked online (freeesnchecker.com) and it said my phone was clean. What could be the problem and how do I fix this? Should I just return it?
2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans9 years agoWhy are people so willing to give up on a relationship because of one mistake?
Let's say that your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife/friend cheated on you/lied to you/etc.
Is your relationship with them so worthless that you are willing to throw it away because of one mistake? Why is it that we forget all the times that person helped us, loved us, cared for us, laughed with us, because that's the stuff that really mattered. In reality, if we really cared for these special people in our lives, won't we be able to forgive them and strive to create a stronger relationship from then on?

4 AnswersSingles & Dating10 years agoInsecure about not having my first kiss yet..?
So I'm a 15 year old girl and I haven't had my first kiss yet.
I know many haven't and it's not a big deal but I can't help feeling like a loser
when all my friends have had theirs since middle school and even elementary.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those "waiting-for-the-right-guy" kind of girl, it
just never happened to me yet. And sometimes when I admit that I haven't had mine yet, people are so surprised and I feel all insecure.
What do people think about this? Do they care?

For those of you who have read Brave New World, you may already know that there are multiple historical references in the names of the characters (i.e. Karl Marx, Benito Mussolini, Henry Ford, Vladimir Lenin, Leon Trotsky). What is the significance of these references, and what message does Huxley send out through them? Or what is his intention?
