So, after 4 years of unexplained infertility I was finally diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) last month. My doctor prescribed Metformin to control my hormone and insulin levels (I'm also insulin resistant). I was told to take 500mg daily and add 500mg each week until I reached 2000mg. I tried this, but the metformin made me very sick. I was constantly nasuaes and dizzy. I felt as if my bloodsugar was dropping alot. I tried knocking it down to 250mg but that still didn't help the nasueasness. So, my doctor said that the medicine must be to strong for me and to just stop taking it. After researching alot about PCOS and reading many personal stories, i realized that these side affects are not that uncommon and can be drastically reduced by upping the dosage even slower and making sure to always eat when taking the medication, as well as eating a proper diet for insulin resistance. (None of which my doctor suggested or told me about).

So my plan is to start a new low carb, low GI, high protein diet. As soon as I have adjusted to the diet I think I will give the metformin a try again. Starting with 250mg and working up very slowly to at least 1000mg and hopefully to 2000mg. Then once my body is adjusted to the metformin, I think I will try another Clomid round as my doctor suggested. (I have done 6 rounds before).

So what do you think of my plan??

Any other suggestions for PCOS, Metformin, or Insulin Resistance?

My husband and I are planning a romantic vacation to the Caribbean for our 5th anniversary.

October 2011- Yes I'm starting to plan it a year and a half in advance.. I'm a planner ;)

We want to go to an all inclusive resort. I want it to be romantic and somewhat secluded but would love to have some activities to keep us entertained as well. We're not golfers or tennis players...

Would love water sports like Jetskiing, Snorkling, Parasailing, swimming with dolphins maybe. I would exspecially enjoy shows or some form of entertainment.

Some places I have begun to cosider are:

The Bahamas, Turkes and Caicos, Virgin Islands, Antigua, Domincan Republic....

I orginally was fascinated by the Sandals Resort in Nassua, but now i'm thinking I would enjoy going somewhere a little less common and maybe a little further into the carribean.

My recent favorite is the Dreams resort in Punta Cana... any opinions on it?

My husband and I have been trying to concieve our first child for nearly 4 years. Because of Infertility I have learned alot about my body, including the fact that I do not always ovulate and I have very irregular cycles. (28-45 days usually) Yet despite my cycles being irregular and long, they have never stopped altogether, until now.

I am not pregnant. No symptoms. Numerous negative HPTs over the past few weeks to be sure.

I am not stressed. No more than average anyways ;) . I know its common to think because we are trying to have a baby we are automatically over stressed, but after 4 years I have learned to cope and am very relaxed.

I am not under or over weight. I weigh 130lbs and am 5'6. I have not had any excessive weight gain or loss recently.

I am not using nor have I ever used birth control, drugs, excessive alcohol ect.

I have not taken any new medications.

I have an apointment with my Doctor in 2 weeks, but am nervous about what could be going on and wanted to see if anyone has any opinions.

Do you think it could be cysts? Or thyroid problems?

Is it dangerous to not have a period?

I currently make Baby Blankets, Bibs, Burp Cloths and such for fun but have decided to turn this into a small business. My designs will be featured in a local boutique starting March 13th and I need a name for my Designs. A "brand name" if you will.

I don't want the name to refer to baby only items, in case I broaden my product line in the future.

I would prefer ONE WORD that really stands out and makes a statement, but am not against more than one word or adding Designs at the end.

I want it to be elegant and stylish yet unique and funky. (I'm picky and impossible to please haha)

Here are some ideas I like but havent fallen in love with as a name.

Swanky, Snazzy, Chic, Whimsy, Dandy , any flower or gemstone, french words....

I have been having problems with my left shoulder for 5+ years now. I get these sharp shooting pains in my shoulder and then a tingling sensation down my arm and into my fingers. The shooting pains (i call them spasms, because I cannot think of a better word) can be incredibly painful, and last anywhere from 1 second to 30 seconds.

After prograstinating for years (partially fear, partially because i had no health insurance until now), I finally saw a Orthopeadic Doctor last week. He took Xrays, which came back normal and shceduled a EMG and Nerve conduction test for this coming Tuesday. He said he thinks I might have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.

I have read that these test can be painful, but that it depends on the person. I have a high tolerence for pain and am not afraid of the general pain from the needles or anything. What I am afraid of is that the "electric shocks" will trigger the sharp spasms in my shoulder. Im not sure I could bare it if my shoulder starts having spasms while the test is still being done. Sometimes the pains at home are so bad i nearly black out.

Im going to have these tests done, because I know its critical for my diagnosis, but i'm scared of the pain. Any advice? Has anyone had this done?

I have a nearly 2 year old toy poodle. She has always liked her toys but never favored one more than another. I got her a stuffed duck that quacks, a few months back. She liked it, but wasn't obsessed.

She recently went to the groomer (about a week ago, she was there for 3 hours or so) and seemed out of sorts ever since. She all the sudden is obsessed with the stuffed duck. She cries if its not in her sight, carrys it wherever she goes, and MUST have it to sleep! She is also humping the duck. She humped stuffed animals breifly as a small pup, but never has since then.

What do you think could be the issue?

She is not fixed, but is not in heat and was not in heat (was about 3 weeks prior to going to the groomer) when she went to the groomers.

She is not lonely. I have 2 cats she loves, and my mother in law is living with us and is always home with her.

I'm 23 nearly 24. 134lbs 5'6. I eat healthy but excercise very little. My daily habits have not changed and I am not overly stressed.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for nearly 3 years. I have been diagnosed with anovulation with no underlying cause as if yet. We have done 6 rounds of clomid but have decided to temporarily stop fertility treatments until later this year. My last clomid cycle was November 08. My cycles have always been irregular (30-40days) but never none existent until sept08. My doctor prescribed provera to force me to start and we proceded w/cycle. Afterwards my cycles went back to 30-40 days. Now I'm on day 48 and having no signs of starting. What could be the cause of my period stopping and is it dangerous? I really don't want to see a doctor about it because I'm trying to relax and avoiding apts and testing until we proceed with fertility treatments later this year. Any help or advice is appreciated. My Mother In Law receieves a VA pension of aprox. $600 a month. Her deceased husband was a veteran. She is now living with Myslef and My Husband and applying for Disability from the goverment, with hopes of being able to afford her own place.

My question is, If she recieves goverment Disability will she lose her VA pension? I have heard people say that you can ony get the surviving spouse VA pension if your have NO income. Will disability be considered income?

I have done 5 rounds of Clomid in the past. 3 of which i ovulated but did not get pregnant.

I recently switched doctors and he has prescribed me Provera to make me start my period (this is the first time i have not started on my own), and then Metformin and Clomid (100mg CD5-9).

After reading more about Metformin i have decided to wait to take it until i speak with my doctor and let him know i have hypoglycemia. (i did not think to tell him at the apointment).

Why would my doctor prescribe me with Metformin?

Is it okay to take it with hypoglycemia?

I of course do not want to jepordize my health by taking something that will make my blood sugar drop to low... but i also do not want to decrease my chanced of getting pregnant. After trying for 26 months i was really hopefully this new combination of meds would help.

my periods are always irregular but ussually no longer than 35 days. Could this be a chemical pregnancy? Or would a chemical pregnancy give me a positive HPT? What about a cyst?

I'm scared.

We have been TTC 26 months. I do not ovulate on my own. I have done 5 rounds of Clomid with no success. I read about Soy Isofavones online and how they were comparable to Clomid. So i took 160mg CD's 5-9.

Now i am on CD44 with no sign of AF and alll Negative Pregnancy Tests. This is the longest cycle i have ever had! For the past 6+ months they have bee 32-35 days.

I just need opnions on what you think is going on.

Do you think i ovulated late and i am pregnant, but it is to soon to tell on a pregnancy test? OR Do you think i messed up my body by taking the Soy Iso pills??

My Husband and I have been TTC for 25 months. We have done 5 rounds of Clomid in the past (3 of which i ovulated, but none resulted in a pregnancy). Im going to see a specialist the frist of September (im waiting for my new insurance to go into affect).

I recently heard about a natural supplement called Soy Isoflavones. They are suppose to work the same way as Clomid. Im thinking about trying this for my next cycle. Iv tried to research but found very little involving TTC and Soy Isoflavones.

They are 6$ at walmart. Compared to Clomid i figure its worth a shot to see if it makes me ovulate...not to mention its all natural so must be safer!

Have you or do you know anyone who tried this?

I found the TTC section of Yahoo Answers, just a few months into my TTC journey, and it was such a blessing. I met so many wonderful ladies going through similar issues and learned more information than I ever imagined I would.

Now over 2 years later I feel as though I have hit a dead end. I find myself answering more questions and asking less. I know how my body works ( or how it doesn't work for that matter). I do not ovulate on my own. I have done 5 rounds of Clomid (3 of which I ovulated). I take prenatals and eat healthy. I am going to my first RE appointment the first of September. (waiting on new health insurance to go into effect).

Do you think I stopped Clomid to soon and should have done a few more rounds?

Do you have any suggestions for me to prepare for my RE appointment?

-just feeling lost and impatient, ready to be a mommy!

TTC 25 months.

Are the new FSC cigarettes making you sick? If you don't already know all cigarettes are being changed from regular to fire safe... some states haven't changed yet, but they will. (To find out if your cigs are fire safe, check the side of the pack for the letters FSC)

After doing a little research and looking around on Y! Answers, i noticed alot of people are having the same problems with these new FSC cigarettes. Immediate headaches, sore throat, nausuesness, ect. ...O and not to mention the fact they go out numerous times while trying to smoke and you have to relight them!

What can we do? Does anyone know the truth about what is in these new FSC cigarettes? Is this a goverment trick to get us to quit??

Me & My Hubby want to take a vacation to the bahamas for our 2 year anniversary (October). It will be not only our first trip to the bahamas but our first trip outside the US.

I did a tiny bit of research and fell in love with the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort's website. I did the "trip planner" to get an estimate on how much it would cost and it said $3500. That is the cheapest (still super nice looking) room and roundtrip airfare from Memphis Tn. Is that a good price?

I want a 100% care-free vacation. I would like for everything to be payed for ahead of time (food, airfare, activities..ect.), and romantic is a must!!

Can anyone give me any advice or tips to help me plan this vacation? The cheaper the better ;)!

F.Y.I : This vacation is for both our anniversary and as a getaway from the stress of trying to conceive a baby. I would like a place where i can relax and not be surrounded by children, and the looming reminder that i don't have any.

My baby keeps throwing up a foamy stuff (over the last 2-3 days maybe 3-5 times a day). I noticed yesterday it was a little yellow. Then this morning she threw up on a white sheet and it was BRIGHT NEON YELLOW. This scares me. What could it be? She is teething still, could it be from that?

Due to the fact i amd traveling with my husband on work, and we are in a teeny tiny town where th closest vet is more than 50 miles away...i cannot take her to the vet right away. (unless it were an emergency of course) .... I will be visiting home in the next week or two...should i take her to the vet then??
