  • Help Please with INDOOR pond design web sights?

I have 3, 2 year old RES that live in a 126 gallon preformed pond. The pond has platforms reinforced underneath with 2x4's. One platform has a flat rock with heat light, the other, a rock with UV lighting. I have about a 5x7' space to work with in my dining room/ sun room where their pond is now. I am limited on space that I "can" put the pond because of the weight of all the water.

I know this is not adequate for them to live with and I need help in finding web sights with INDOOR pond designs.

I live in the North East so they CANNOT live out doors. I am planning on building a large, sand basking box for them in the "near" future. I have searched several web sights but have yet to find anything for "indoor" ponds. I have had the turtles for 2 1/2 years because they were "gifted" as nearly hatch-lings by someone who could not keep them and thought it would be a nice X-mas present.

Thank you for any pond design advice you might be able to give.

  • What asking price for cherry wood?

We recently had to remove a 38 year old cherry tree from our yard and hubby wants to sell the wood (in central Pa.).

It is cut into burnable sections, both the large and small branches and trunk, but is not yet seasoned. None of it is usable for lumber but fine for fireplace or smoker.

Could anyone please give me an estimate selling price for the entire tree (excluding the smaller branches). Thank you in advance.

  • question on building a turtle pond??

I currently have 3 baby RES in a 50 gallon tank.

I know they will soon need a larger space to live (yes, they do still have ample room to move around in). My confusion is in what type of pond to create for them on a "tight" budget.

These babies were a present from my daughter (from Texas) where they were "carnival prizes" at 1-2 inches.

They are currently 3-4 inches in size.

What I am looking to create is a pond that slopes so they can get out to bask and a sandy beach area in their fenced in enclosure. I want the maximum pond size i can create for them.

So my question is...is it "possible" to create a cement pond for them that is water sealed (painted) or would that be toxic to them? Is it possible to do this and let it cure for several weeks before filling? Also, what type of plants can I put in their enclosure that are "safe" to them?

My husband wants to "convert" an old hot tub into a turtle tank yet I see that as a huge tank that needs constant water changes. Thanks

  • Odd behavior in juvenile RES?

Two of my 3 red ear sliders( the larger 2) have recently begun to show odd behavior that I'm unsure about. They are both under or just about 1 year old and have recently started facing each other, touching front feet, wiggle thier toes against each others toes and bump noses. I was wondering if this is juvenile pre mating action or if this is a show of dominance behavior. Can anyone experienced help please?

  • what kind of filtration for RES?

I have a 50 gallon tall tank for 4 baby sliders and I cannot get the pump to prime for me.

I was trying to use a small underwater pump but it kept clogging so last night I bought an Aqua-Clear power pump 30-60 that hang on the top and syphons up to the filter.

I had read that you can use extention tubes to reach the lower water levels in the turtle tank but that would not prime. After filling the tank half full (causing the babies to have to really swim for it to get air) , reinstalling the tube it came with and 1/2 hour of trying to prime it, it still would not get the water to syphon up properly. I do not want to have to fill the tank FULL to get it to work.

Can any turtle experts PLEASE help me on getting and using a filter pump that WILL work for turtles and how to make it work?

I have had years of experience with fish tank pumps before so I do know how they are "suppose" to work but this is baffling me.

Thank you in advance for any help.

  • Wicca...Why in Mythology and Folklore?

Wicca is an established and recognised religion. Why is it that most all of the questions about Wicca and Witchcraft wind up being asked under M&F? Are we afraid to post it under R&S when honestly, that IS where they belong?

Any why is it that we cannot post questions in more than one category?

side note:: I just did spell check and it missed a misspelling of the word that (taht). lol...so much for spell check

  • Rabbit problem in the garden...safe solutions?

We live within city limits so shooting them is nto an option and fencing is not in budget...I have heard that putting tobacco around the garden will deter the little critters and I was wondering if anyonr might have "humane" and non toxic (organic veggie garden) ways to keep them out.

The main problem is that there are no preditory animals (cats) and they are not very fearful.

    Thank you for any advice.

  • 3' diamiter mill stone, 30 foot embankment, 2 people...advice?

While creek walking, my grown son and I found a 3 foot wide, 4 inch thick old millstone in the creek and he wants to bring it home and make a table out of it.

. The problem is that the least steep area to bring it out is about 30 feet up from the creek bed. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get it up to the road?

We have considered using a rope and dragging it up the hill but it is in a wooded area with lots of rocks and tree roots sticking out.

Thanks in advance for any possible help

  • Sometimes these thump, thumpers REALLY tax my panties!!!!?

ok...so the question is...When your Christian God started handing out bibles....did he FORGET to hand out a sense of humor also?

So may times I have responded with "Judge not, lest ye be Judged".

SO many are SO quick to judge and comdemn others for their belliefs and the problem is that NONE of them have bothered to learn ANYTHING about any other religion. How can you judge something you know nothing about?

And lets face it...MOST questions asked in humor get serious answers with loads of bible quotes and "God loves you...bla bla bla" added in for good measure.

Lighten up people and quit taking life so serious. Surely...God DOES have a sense of humor.

  • Info for those who lose fish shortly after buying them.....?

    1) there is no great place to purchase healthy fish other than straight from a breeder

    2) fish you buy in ANY store have been mass raised, overbred and MASS shiiped and very few are disease free. there is only a small chance that they are healthy. the shipping alone is a MAJOR stress on them

    3) a VERY LITTLE known fact is that the scanners at the register and the magnetic scensors at the doors are DEADLY to fish. (9 times out of 10 they plop your bag right on the scanner to put in the codes)

    4) consider the outside air temp and the temp in your car while you transport them..

    5) most of the fish in pet stores are already adult fish (most live bearers are) and hey...they don't have long life spans

    6) then add all the other informative info you already know about and chances are pretty good that fish will just not make it to well.

I hope any of this information has been helpful
