  • Ideas for female rat names?

We are going to be getting some female rats in a couple of weeks. They are russian blue and russian blue capped, dumbo, rexes. I like matching names or names that compliment each other, nothing cheesy but apart from that anything goes.

My previous/ current rat's names include:

    Sox and Slippers (female)

    Dusty and Sherbet (male)

    Paddy, Pepper and Polo (male)

    Names I like are:

    Poppy

    Posy

Prim (Primrose, Posy and Prim from THG)

    Tosca and Mozart (Meerkat Manor)

Aggy (just seems like a ratty name)

It would be cool to have names that reflect their colour as well :) thanks!

  • How can I make myself dream about doing magic?

Ok, so I dream quite a lot, about adventure, violence, apocalyptic themes e.t.c. Usually in my dreams I am really good at fighting or evading capture and I have loads of cool skills that I really don't have in real life, but no matter how hard I try I can't dream that I do magic. I read a lot of fantasy books and have dreams involving Eragon, Harry Potter, Skulduggery Pleasant e.t.c. but never in my dreams can I actually do magic, I am just on the sidelines. this is different to other dreams where I am usually the centre so I don't understand why I can't do magic or what I can do to make myself dream that I am magical. thanks :)

  • Where in Bristol can a 15/16 year old volunteer/get-work-experience (or even just a job) with animals?

Just wondering as I cant find a concise list anywhere and it is important that I get as much as possible, especially with farm animals and exotics as I want to be an exotic vet. Also tips on what to do when people don't reply to e-mails/letters or don't phone you back because I don't want to seem pushy, but (kind of understandably) not many people actually bother to reply to me and when every I phone up businesses I always seem to have the bad luck of phoning when the person I need to speak to is not there, and I am getting kind of annoyed at being told my message will be passed on and then never hearing from them again.

  • what should i do if my rat has split his ear?

my rat has split his ear open, not quite sure how, all I can think is, either they were playing to rough and accidentally grabbed his ear or there is something sharp in their cage (which i doubt as I'm always quite careful). the trouble is i'm not sure what to do about it, its not bleeding anymore and didnt appear to be bleeding heavily. Ive given him some neutrical for the shock and i am going to make him up some warm veggie mash. I also washed his wound in a light salt solution, made sure that none went in the ear, and separated him from his brothers. I'm debating taking him to the vet because their really doesnt seem much they can do. I would be grateful if anyone with this or a similar problem could give me advice on what to do, thanks.

  • why do some Americans love British royalty so much?

does anyone else find it slightly weird that Americans seem to care more about British royalty than British people? not to say its all Americans, or that all British people don't give a **** about the royal family, but it just confuses me why some Americans seem so excited by the queen and royal weddings and stuff when it's not their country. I DON'T mean offence by this i'm just curious.

  • reasons to get a rescue dog?

ok, so my family are planning to get a second dog. originally we were thinking of getting a rescue dog but now my mum wants a puppy. i really dont think this would be a good idea because i reckon that my dog at the moment would get jealous of a new puppy getting more attention than her. even if we paid more attention to my first dog other people would give more fuss to the puppy. does anyone have good reasons or case studies about rescue dogs that support getting them? or if anyone thinks it would be a better idea to get a puppy what reasons do you have to support this?

my dog is 4 years old at the moment, if we got a rescue dog they would be some type of retriever or retriever x that is probably over a year and at the youngest 6 months.

  • working dogs or show dogs?

what dog would you prefer and for what reason. (obviously this excudes companion dogs that don't have a working line. i personally prefer working stock dogs as they tend to be slimmer build and dont take the breed to such extremities as show stock tends to.

  • any ideas for female dog names?

we are going to be getting a second dog we would really like another flat coated retriever puppy, so we need some good names. our current flat coat is called jess, so the name cant be to similar. a name with hard constanants that is 2 syllables or less would be ideal. we are planning to get a liver flat coat but may end up with a black depending on availability so names that suit the colour would be good. we are looking for a small, slender b*tch from working stock, so a "solid" kind of name would not be ideal. also i am not a fan of "cutesy" names like coco, or mollie. it has to be a bit sophisticated, but also fun sounding and unique. sorry i know this is a lot to ask for but all my family is really picky about finding the right dog names. thank you :)

  • getting another dog, info on siberian husky x?

We have been looking to get a second dog for a while now, and have been looking online at rescues near us. resently i came across this adorable 13 month old husky x, she is very good with both children and dogs. and she has the most beautiful little face. I have been reading up about siberian huskies and found that most people say you cant let them off. is this true, and do you reckon it would be true for a husky x. i would love to adopt her, but if i cant let her off then i just dont think she will get the mental and physical stimulation she needs. i have lots of fields by me and i dont even have to cross a road to get to 2 of them. do you think that i would be able to let her off, and work on her recall, so she can run with my other dog?

  • considering getting another dog, but wondering what happens when one dies?

We have been thinking for a while about getting another dog as my dog loves to play with other dogs and gets on with almost all of them. she is not territorial at all and always behaves well when we have dogs staying at our house (when their owners have gone on holiday). my only concern is that her and the other dog will bond really closely and so they will suffer if the other one dies. i'm wondering from people who have had the experience of having 2 dogs, how your dogs coped with grief, was it a big problem? and how did you overcome it? thanks.

  • what to do with this pigeon (URGENT 10 PTS)?

ok, so i found this wood pigeon (actually my dog found it and would of hurt it had i not told her to leave it) and it has a broken wing. it is in a small tree at the moment but can barely fly and is obviously in pain. i want to catch it and take it to the vet, but my mum says they will just put it down. but if i dont catch it chances are its going to get killed by a dog (its in a place where lots of dogs are walked) and that would be a horrible way to die. my feeling is, catch it and then phone the vet asking what they would do, if they would treat it then we take the pigeon, if not then.... i dont know? any suggestions for the best way to go about this?

  • would you class this as being cruel to animals?

I am planning on becoming a vegan, who eats eggs. i know that technically defies the point of being vegan, but these arent shop bought eggs, these are unfertilised eggs from my ducks that live in my garden and also my friends chickens. all of these animals i see reguarly, they have access to the whole (largish) garden. and when they outlive their egg laying days, they are still kept because they are primeraly our pets. would any body, vegan or not, see this as harming the animals in any way? would you eat eggs like this youreselves? im just looking for your own personal opinions and reasons to back it up, thanks.

  • question about hatching a duck egg?

I recently lost my ducks to a neighbouring fox, we want to get more ducks but dont want them to get eaten by a fox. I want to completely fox proof our garden. (any tips on doing this?) so it will be safe and we can hatch out new ducks. from our old ducks we have one egg left that is in the fridge, will it still hatch if its fertillised or will we have to get eggs from another source. and also would it be ok to just hatch out the one egg, or would i need more, and if so how can i ensure that they hatch together? any tips or knowledge on egg care would be very helpful (I know quite a lot about duckling care but any advise on this would also be appreciated.) for instance: turning the egg, how long i havw to wait, how big the enclosure should be for ducklings etc...
