I am a chef, living and working in London. I live with my partner of 7 years, no kids.

  • Ideas for today - london centric?

It is a beautiful Spring day and I'd like ot go outside and enjoy it. My friends are all busy and my partner has just been called into work. I know I could just go for a walk but I thought there might be something more interesting to do. I live in London and have done for 7 years so I know all the usual 'tourist' stuff like the south bank and the parks etc etc. Anything new and exciting happening? Or ideas to make a walk on my own more fun?

You have until I get dressed to give me your ideas.

    Thanks!

  • Sunday morning quiz - geography or generational?

I was just thinking on the bath about some of the answers I have read on this site. It seems to me that a lot of respondents are very 'straight-laced'. I know a lot of younger people use this site and a lot of Americans. It got me to thinking. So I have a quiz for you. Please answer honestly if you can. Thanks

    Q1) Where are you? UK/US/Other

q2) How old are you? Generation Y (younger than 25ish)/Generation X (25ish to 45ish)/ Baby Boomer (45-65) or war child?

Q3) God? My best friend/I know there is something out there but I'm not sure what/ What?

Q4) Abortion? Never/Only if the child is severely disabled/Sure, it's a woman's right to choose

Q5) Same sex marriage? Long over due/a necssary evil/ over my dead body

Q6) Climate Change? Everyone needs to act now/Science will sort it out/There's no problem

Q7) Drugs? Totally cool - look at Pete Docherty/Nothing wrong with a pill/line/toke/All bad even alcohol

Q8) Sex? Only in marriage/Only in a loving relationship/Yes please

  • What are the UK civil vows?

Yes I admit it I am a control freak. My partner and I are getting married in six weeks and I have searched high and low onthe internet for the wording to the civil ceremony so that I know what I will be expected to say and can't find a thing. Does anyone know the exact wording? I know it has something to do with saying you believe you can legally marry and that of your own free will you agree to be married but can anyone be more specific than that? Please only answer with wording for England/Wales and please don't suggest that we make up stuff - this is for legal purposes the romantic one comes next year.

    Thanks

  • What to do about erotic pictures?

O have posted on here many times about how great my partner is - and he is - he is one of lives good guys and we have a loving and supportive relationship. But just recently when I come home from work (I work as a chef and often get home late) and go to check my emails or something on the computer I have found erotic, quite tasteful, pictures of women that my partner has obviously been looking at. The first time he apologised and I asked if he had been searching for them ad he said 'no'. But this has happened twice since and today I found the 'search' that led to the image. I don't know whether to say anything - I mean he is entitled to his own private time and use of the computer, they are not 'porn' as such but nice, arty pictures of naked women. But I do find them upsetting - like I am not enough for him. It is especially strange as our love life has been on the up recently - more frequent and more adventurous. Any thoughts?

  • Christmas dilemma?

As a chef I am lucky to get three days off this Christmas - Christmas eve, Christmas day and boxing day. Obviously I want to spend this time with my partner of 7 years. He gets two weeks off at the same time. His mother (who lives alone) has invited us to hers for Christmas but the trin will cost us about £500 to book a ticket for travel on those days and I don't really want to spend my days off driving. Last year she came to us but now has a cataract leaving her blind in one eye and so driving is a problem and the trian cost is the same for her. My partner could travel more cheaply on different days but then I would be alone on Christmas day and I would hate that but I also don't want to think of his mum being on her own either even though part of me thinks that she's had 30 years to find somone to spend it with but is still too hung up on her ex husband to do so. Can you see a workable solution?

  • Can anyone recommend a destination?

My partner has offered to take me away during February/March (aren't I lucky). I would really like to get some winter sun rather than go ski-ing. I would also rather not do a long haul flight as I will probably be only able to take a weeks holiday from work. I live in the UK so somewhere within a 5 hour flight of the UK would be ideal. As a chef it is also improtant to me to have good food on holiday. Any suggestions?

  • Improve bathroom on a budget?

I'm just about to move into a lovely rented property - however the bathroom is very small and a bit dark. The suite is white but looking its age and so are the tiles. The walls are white too and newly painted. Any suggestions on brightening up the space without spending too much money as its rented?

  • Make a bathroom better without changing it?

I'm just about to move into a rented place that has a dingy though clean bathroom. The suite is old, the room is small and dark. The room is white with white tiles but just needs some cheering up. As its rented I don't want to spend a fortune - any suggestions on how to improve and brighten the 'smallest room'?

  • Should I go?

My sister is getting married for the second time next summer and I don't want to go. The first time she got married I wasn't even invited - she told me at the time that only parents were invited but i have since found this out to be a lie. She has had two other engagements - one wedding cancelled just weeks before (I was invited to that but she didn't want me as a bridesmaid despite her being mine). I don't like her intended husband and I don't think she has learnt from her past mistakes to stop her making the same ones in the future and this time there are kids involved. But not going will cause huge family rows. Should i go and keep the peace or stick to my principals?

  • Suggestions to get us through a tough time?

I have a wonderful relationship with my partner of 7 years. We have a shared dream for the future and are working hard to make that dream a reality. When we are together we enjoy each others company but we have hit a big challenge - we rarely see each other. We live in the same house and share a bed but it can be a week or more between us sitting down to a meal together due to the pressures and nature of our work. It isn't a matter of putting work before each other - its just the way work keeps working out - I have a day off and he doesn't and vice versa - we're both freelance so its difficult to turn work down if it comes our way and as we want to finance our dream and get there ASAP. But it is hard and it can feel pretty lonely - my partner is my best friend and I miss him and our social life suffers as any time we do get we want to spend exclusively with each other. Can anyone sugest strategies to help us thorugh this tricky time?
