How do you combat fish smell in a cubicle?
I have a cubicle neighbor who's brought fish in for lunch every day last week and every day so far this week. He nukes it and brings it to his cubicle to eat(this in itself is normal at work since we all eat in our cubes). The problem is that the fish smell is pretty intense and I hate it, but I don't want to bother him by saying something unless I have to.
Does anyone know a way to neutralize a fish smell in a cubicle environment without using an air freshener which would just make it worse. Is there something with a really weak smell that is noticeable only within a few feet of it? Any other ideas other than confrontation?
Thanks in advance people!
1 AnswerFish8 years agoMy scalp is itchy and I'm losing a lot of hair?
I've had a problem for a few weeks now. At first I was just losing hair, but last week, my hair started itching too. At first I dismissed it as normal hair loss. After all, hair loss is a constant thing and I haven't dyed my hair in 3 months so I thought it might be breakage from the much-dyed hair.
But it's continuing and my scalp has become itchy. I can't comb my hair with my fingers without losing at least 1-5 strands. Since it's gotten so itchy, I've gotten to the point where I don't notice fussing with it. I just looked under the computer chair at work and there was a noticeable pile of strands. Grrr. My scalp isn't red and this has never happened before. The only recent haircare change I can think of is switching to a paraben-free shampoo/conditioner and stopping dying my hair.
The hair loss is all over, so I don't have any bald spots and I have a lot of very fine hair so it's not really noticeably thin either despite the excessive hair loss.
I've been trying to think if stress is the cause and I have been a bit stressed about passing a government background check and starting a new federal job next month, but I don't think it was hair loss-level of stress.
If anyone has some ideas of possible causes or experiences, I would be happy to hear them. I just ran my hand through my hair again and 4 more strands bite the dust.
7 AnswersHair9 years agoCan vets tell if a cat is pregnant if heat ends less than a week earlier?
So I procrastinated getting my cat fixed and she went into heat last Thursday. She did escape a couple of times so she might have met up with a tom cat. As soon as she started heat, I made an appointment to get her fixed(next Tuesday the 28th).
The clinic charges $25 more if the cat is pregnant, but that will be only a week after her heat ends, so can they tell if she is pregnant?
3 AnswersCats9 years agoHow could my dog have been cut?
This is probably a weird question. But for you dog owners out there.... Has your dog every had an injury that looks like a cut? How did it happen?
I noticed yesterday around noon that my dog had a really deep cut on her right hind area. It's down to the muscle. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford a emergency vet, so I washed it and put some antibiotic/pain reliever cream on it. My dog hasn't been effected by this at all(yes she still literally jumps for joy before going on a walk). lol.
She's at the vet now getting it stitched up and I'm going to pick her up after work.
The thing is that the vet said it looked like a slice, but I have no idea how it could have happened. I was alone in the apartment all weekend and she's an indoor dog so the only time she's outside and not on a leash is at the dog park and on the patio. I haven't found blood in the apartment or on the patio. I do have a kitten, but her teeth and claws are really tiny and I can't imagine that she be able to make a 1.5 inch long straight cut down to the muscle?
I really need to find the cause so this doesn't happen again so I would appreciate any advice on how to find the cause.
7 AnswersDogs9 years agoDoes this count as defective enough for a return?
I bought a laptop on Saturday, then returned it because I was too dumb to check and see if it had an optical drive until I got it home(I know it's my fault, but I thought it was only netbooks that didn't have one and this was a 13.3. inch Acer). I didn't even open it, I just looked at the specs on the side while getting ready to open it. Then went back to the store an hour later. So Frys gave me no grief about it and took back the return. Since I was determined to buy a laptop this weekend, I used the store credit to simply got a different one for mostly the same specs except a bigger screen and a DVD-writer.
Celebrate, then I pick up the box and get ready to leave and noticed one of the stickers looked like it was previously torn, but took it home anyway because it was a good price for some awesome specs. There was also a barcode inside the box, so I think the laptop was already returned once. grr, but I'm an idiot and it looked unsed so I started it up and was ready happy for a few hours. It's handled all the videos and games I tried on it with ease, until I unplugged the power cord.
If the laptop is running on battery power, you cannot watch any streaming video or listen to streaming music. This includes Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Spotify, etc. It starts freezing intermittently if you do and the sounds stutters really badly at this time too. This made me notice that even when the sound isn't playing, the laptop sputters while moving the cursor around if it's not plugged into an outlet. I didn't notice until I was watching for it.
Also, the mute button doesn't actually mute anything, although the mute icon comes onto the screen.
So do you all think this counts as defective? If not then there's that 15% restocking fee and that would suck, but the point of a laptop is that it's portable. I'm a bit unhappy with Frys already for selling me a new laptop that had already been opened. There was no signs on the outside of the box, it doesn't say it on my receipt, and the sales guy who grabbed it for me didn't mention it.
Since I paid for it with a store credit from the first laptop, do you all think they can refund the money to the card used for the initial purchase?
Thanks for any help or advice!
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks10 years agoIs it worth paying this money to avoid a broken lease?
So I've been subletting my apartment to a friend(we're both on the lease), but we haven't really spoken much over the last month. Now I know why. Her company closed last month and she was laid off and now has no money. :-( It's my fault for not paying attention to thing, but she claims she spoke to the office and was told not to worry about it and that since the lease was up on the 31st, she could move out then with no penalties (either a lie or the person she spoke to had no training or experience in apartments). So I call her today to see if everything is fine. She says she moved out on July 30th and left the keys in the apartment office. I know, she's really a sweet person, really, really.
So I freaked out and called the office and explained the situation. They said they never received any notice and had no idea the apartment was vacant. I went over at lunch and completed the 30 days notice form and she sent faxed them a letter, so now we technically move out on the 4th of September. Yay.
They told me the rent goes up from $470 in the lease to $595 outside the lease so $670 is due with late fees and water and trash included. I've agreed to pay it tomorrow with her hopefully paying me back for half of it when she gets her final paycheck next week, but she's saying it's too much and she wants to pay half the $470 rather than $595. drama, drama, drama. And this won;t me the end of it since they are going to come up with a whole new rent amount to prorate the rent for September's 4 days and the office lady couldn't tell me how much it would be.
Anyway, so that's the situation. Both me and the sublessee acting like idiots and now paying for an apartment with no one staying there and the electrics even been turned off so no one can live there right now.
My question is, is it worth paying the $670+next month's amount for it not to go on my credit? I say this as someone who's credit score is probably 590 or something and who has 2 credit cards in collections(so any money owed that they want to send to collections will be ignored like I ignore the credit cards). Can it really hurt my already bad credit that much?
5 AnswersRenting & Real Estate10 years agoHow can I make sure UPS does not deliver to the apt office?
There's some drama between me and the apartment manager and I prefer to pretend the office doesn't exist and let my brother deal with any problems that arise. I'm expecting a package from UPS tomorrow and someone may or may not be home. Even if someone is home, the driver may not knock. My brother had something delivered last week and was home all day and never heard a knock on the door. :( Still I REALLY do not want to set foot in the apartment office. Do you think the UPS driver would accept a signed note on the door asking that they hold the package rather than delivering it to the office? The thing is that I'm not sure where the nearest UPS service center is. I picked up a UPS package a few years ago from a service center near downlown(living in a completely different part of town at the time), but idk if that was typical.
If I request they hold the package, should I specify that I will pick it up and ask on the note for them to write down where to pick it up?
1 AnswerOther - Local Businesses10 years agoIn house pet sitting vs taking the kitten to the pet sitter for a kitten?
I know this question gets asked a lot, but we have a 18 week old kitten(approx 4.5 months old) and are going out of town soon for a weekend(leaving Friday afternoon and coming back Sunday around noon). The kitten is quite frisky and eats a lot and is not used to being alone. In fact, I don't think the kitten's been truly alone for more than an hour since we got her. My roommate/brother works nights and I work days and I have a dog with whom the kitten gets along famously. The dog, my brother, and I are going to the lake for the weekend and had been planning on simply leaving the kitten alone in the bedroom and the door open to the bathroom where her litter box is, but now I'm wondering if that's a bad idea. A friend would come by on Saturday and look in on her and change out the water and food. Still, she could get into all sorts of problems. I am tempted to find someone else to take her instead of her being essentially home most of the weekend, but I don't know. I worry that taking her to another house might prove more disruptive for her then leaving her in familiar circumstances, but alone.
Which is better for kittens, staying in familiar circumstances and having someone look in on them, or going to a new place for a few days where there would be people?
3 AnswersCats10 years agoCan you be evicted for swearing?
I'm moving into an apartment with my brother next month and thought to pay the pet deposit early. He's already living in this place and is on second chance leasing so he must pay with a money order. This is fine, but I wanted to pay the deposit with a check since I'm not even moving in until the beginning of August so they check will certainly clear by then. They refused to even budge and the woman was quite side about it. I think she's the manager. As I was walking out the door I said"F** it. What a b**" under my breath. I know it's juvenile, but i was really frustrated with her and I know that's no excuse. She came running after me and said she was going to evict my brother in 3 days because she heard me curse at her. This seems a bit extreme to punish my brother for what I did when I'm not even a tenant yet. I feel really bad for my brother, but she called afterward and spoke to him and explained that she was evicting him and he has the weekend to move out. Can they evict with such short notice? This is a large complex in a fairly big area. What is legal?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics10 years agoWhen to worry about a bug bite?
You know, I loveYahoo Answers since it gives me an opportunity to ask random questions without bothering loved ones, only other answerers :-).
I was walking my dog Wednesday morning near some (within 5 feet of) some apartments which are being worked on for some reason. The whole complex is getting new siding and I have no idea why since it's a neighboring complex. But I digress. So I felt a burning pain in my arm and back and swatted at whatever bit me. I still have no idea what it was since I heard nothing and while I've been stung/ bit by wasps, bees, flies, spiders, and mosquitos, it never hurt that much.
The pain didn't even start to go away for at least 5 minutes. By the time I got home 20 minutes later, the pain had softened to a slight burning sensation. At the time, there was the bite mark in the middle surrounded by a couple-inch diameter red circle. I took my shower and got ready for work as normal. I haven't worried too much about it, but it's been 2 days and hasn't gone away. Now the bite marks are still noticeable with a much larger reddened area around them which is hot and raised and firm to the touch .The one on the arm is redder in the center and the one on the back is smaller with more of a uniform redness.
It doesn't really hurt or itch a lot so maybe I should continue to leave it... or should I start to worry? I'm sure it's normal right?
And while I'm on the subject, what could have bitten me? I still have no idea and don't remember feeling or seeing anything right after it happened.
4 AnswersFirst Aid1 decade agoCan a betta and a molly get along in a 5 gallon tank?
So I set up a 20 gallon at home aquarium last week and it's not leaking and the temperature is staying current and I put some gravel from my 5 gallon work aquarium into it with a little food each day to help cycle it. I've been checking the numbers with test strips, but I'm not sure how accurate they are.
Anyway, so I grew impatient (I know the bane of the fishkeeper) and moved my 3 mollies into it the day before yesterday with some filter media from their old tank. So I lost 1 molly this morning(RIP Oliver) and another one is spending all his time hidden in a cave. There was also a few standing bubbles around the edge of the tank :-) I did a water change of about 1.5 gallons yesterday when I noticed the bubbles and another water change today of 6 gallons( yay! no more standing bubbles). The thing is that I'm worried that the remaining 2 mollies are about to die, especially the smaller one who is hiding.
Should I risk stressing the mollies out by returning them to their old fish tank at work? It's a 15-20 minute drive. I've also since moved a betta into their old tank and he seems happy as he swim all throughout the water. There is a space for them to hid in from the betta and a live and a silk plant.
Maybe it's better to just stick it out and hope for the best?
4 AnswersFish1 decade agoMight have dented someone's car?
So I just returned from lunch and a lady from another suite in our building. It's a small building and even though I neither felt nor heard myself hit her car, she could be right. Her office faces the parking lot and she says that after I drove away, there was a dent and before there wasn't. Hmmm. I can be oblivious at times so I could have not noticed. I have a Focus and the fog lights protrude a bit and that is a bit more scuffed-up then when I bought the car. Her SUV though has a small dent in the rear driver's side bumper. It's maybe the diameter of a splayed hand. I haven't admitted responsibility, but I've never been in an accident and I'm not sure what to do. How much would an accident like this raise my rates. Would it be better not to report it to insurance and just pay it out of pocket? She seems okay with that, but I'm not sure if it's better to go through the insurance and let them fight out whether or not I am responsible.
6 AnswersInsurance & Registration1 decade agoMy platy is hanging out by the heater a lot?
I have a male platy and 2 male mollies in a 5 gallon hexagonal aquarium ( I know it's too small, but am moving on Thursday and will set up the 20 gallon when I move into the new place). They seem fine and have been in this aquarium since I moved into my office here at work around Christmas. There's only been 1 death in that time. The other platy died a week after setting up the aquarium. The heater is actually meant for a 20 gallon tank as is the filter, but the heater doesn't overheat the water according to the thermometer (I keep it just under the 80 degree line), so I think it;s fine and the fish enjoy playing around the filter.
I do water changes ever 3 or so days with a water vacuum. My water is really clear with no smell and for the most part the fish are really active. They look back at me whenever I turn around a look at the tank. The problem is that since yesterday, the platy is almost always in the same place in the tank, near the top, right beside the heater. In fact, he doesn't seem to swim as low in the tank as the other 2 do, but still responds by swimming up to my fish if I place it against the glass like the other 2 do. Is this the beginning of the end. Should I worry now? I haven't seen either of the mollies bullying him, but maybe they do so and I just haven't caught it. I'm thinking if he's already this stressed, he might not make it through the move to the new aquarium after it finishes cycling in a couple of weeks. The fish store is located right across the street from my office, so I'm planning on taking some water in so they can check out the parameters, but does anyone have any idea why he's hanging out at the top by the heater and the other 2 are fine?
2 AnswersFish1 decade agoSo Why am I the only one without an office?
So I work in a small office of 15 people and of those people, only me, the receptionist and 2 part time employees do not have an office. It doesn't normally bother me, but one of the sales staff asked me about it today and my desk is annoying me since it's broken and the drawers like to open on their own. The thing is that I've been with the company for over a year and people who've only been with them for 3 months get an office. Oh yes, and there are 3 unused offices with furniture and everything which are not getting used since we recently expanded into a new space and the sales staff vacated them and moved into the new area. I asked why I was moved into a desk in the hallway, it doubles in size before the new area before becoming a hallway again. They answered that my new supervisor wanted to keep me to where I could hear her, but they don't want to move me into the office of the person who did my job before me since they want to hire someone with a PhD to be the part time figurehead for the office. The thing is that its been 3 months so and they haven't attempted to hire anyone else and nothing has changed. Sorry for venting, but I need to get this out so I don't go off on my boss or something. Sigh, maybe it's time to look for a new job..
3 AnswersAdministrative and Office Support1 decade agoMy final exam essay has disappeared!?
I'd emailed myself the outline via gmail and opened it in Word 2007 (my computer is Windows 7 and have been working on it for 4 hours and was saving it regularly. Usually my computer defaults to the desktop so I didn't think anything of it until it was time to upload it. Now I'm freaking out. I checked in Word in case it came up under recent documents and tried to save as to check what folder it was saving to and it isn't in either place. So then I tried searching and came up with bagel. Nothing matches any part of my document name. I've look in appdata and the temporary internet files. Does anyone have any other ideas of where it could be? 4 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoHow can I determine where the problem is with my car radio antenna?
I have a 1988 BMW 325i Convertible and a friend of mine was gracious enough to install the new cheapo Jensen radio last week while he was fixing the timing belt because I'd put it off for six months. So I'm really happy to have it installed, but there's a reception problem and I don't want to complain to him about it. I get decent to crappy FM reception and nothing at all on the AM band. I just got it back yesterday so I won't have a chance to troubleshoot it until Saturday. Since I get some reception(even if it's bad), could this be a problem more with the radio connection or antenna connection? I really hope its nothing to do with the wire since I really don't want to procrastinate that, lol.
Does anyone know what the most likely fault locations are? Should I start with the antenna or the radio? My previous radio started doing the same thing last year(getting bad reception although not this bad). I carefully removed the old radio back in August when I intended to install this one, but didn't and just tucked the cables inside the compartment.
The antenna is a power one, but it's stuck half down and has a crack, but would that really effect reception to the point of getting no AM stations at all? Shall I plan to reinstall a new non-power antenna this weekend (much less complexso I can't procrastinate it again)?
Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersCar Audio1 decade agoBattery Keeps Going Dead..?
I have a 1988 BMW 325i that's been giving me problems for the past week or so. It started on the Friday before last when it wouldn't start. So I jumped it and drove to Walmart and had them test the battery. They said the battery was charging, but I replaced it anyway since it's at least 4 years old. Well, it worked for 3 days and on Tuesday it again wouldn't start and so waited a couple of days and I jumped it on Thursday and drove it to the mechanic who replaced one of the posts and suggested I replace the battery again since it was only holding 3 volts. I picked it up on Friday and and took it to another Walmart and they replaced the battery and it was fine over the weekend. This morning it won't start again.
To let you know what its doing when not starting, its doing nothing. Once the lights came on really dim last week, but usually there's no lights on the dash and no sound from turning the key in the ignition. The mechanic says he checked the alternator and starter and both are fine and I may have just gotten another bad battery from Walmart. Is this likely, could it be something else in my charging system? I never leave any lights on or anything plugged in to the lighter so I don't think it could be something external draining it.
Any ideas are welcome.
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoFeeling Awful Today... Nausea, headache, fever, thirst, gas, tired?
I woke up this morning feeling pretty horrible. The nausea and fatigue is the worst part of it. It's only a slight headache and fever and the gas is only when I speak. Unfortunately, I speak on the phone for a living, so that bites. I would suspect flu or a cold, but the fever's not that high, I have no coughing, sneezing, or sore throat. I sort of suspect this may be a symptom of developing diabetes or something. I have a grandfather with Type 2 diabetes and last night dinner was popcorn and oatmeal (my brother introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons Online and I was NOT leaving the apartment or spending time cooking) and this morning I just could not eat anything, even crackers make me feel worse.
I've taken pepto bismal tablets and they've helped a little with the nausea and I look a caffeine pill that is finally starting to work and some Advil for the headache and lots of water for the thirst.
What do ya'll reckon? Could it be flu without coughing, sneezing, or a sore throat? Should I worry it may be diabetes since my diet is not as healthy as it could be?
Thanks in advance.
3 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoI'm looking for a great Desktop for under $600?
My new kitten helped me spill some soda on my laptop last night and it died :( so I now have an excuse to buy a new computer. I'm looking for a desktop computer that can play Sims 3 really well. I figure if it can play Sims 3, it'll probably be good with typical internet and word processing sorts of things too. I know there are so many options for computers in my price range, but all those processor numbers have started to sound the same and I've bought computers before with what sounds like good specs and but really has bad performance.
Right now I'm really interested in desktops without integrated graphics and at least 4 gb of ram. What I'd really like is a quad core and 6-8 gb though and at least 512 mb dedicated video ram. Is it possible at under $600?
3 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoMy dog keeps licking the new kitten...?
I found a emaciated little kitten yesterday while walking my dog and brought it home. My dog is a cat chaser so I'm being pretty careful in their interactions. My dog is a 3 yo spayed lab mix who's never had puppies. I've been playing it by ear and letting them interact with each other in small doses and so far that seems to be working. The only thing is that any time I allow the dog to get close while I'm holding the kitten (and holding the dog's harness to pull back if she makes an agressive sound or movement) she starts licking the kitten.
While I'm happy they aren't growling, hissing, scratching, or biting each other, I wonder how much licking I should allow. Is it a bonding thing I shouldn't stop?
She seems to focus on the kitten's ears, belly, and butt, is that at all weird?
