  • What is the best non-offensive insult you've heard recently?

I'm writing an article about personal insults in today's culture - I'd like to hear any good insults you've heard or used lately - particularly anything popular lately - nothing too off-color or nasty, please.

  • After fixing water main leak why would toilet tank and washer overflow that night?

We have a 100 year old home w/ ancient metal piping from the town water supply to the house - leak started in the center, water turned off by city and section was replaced to stop leak as a temporary fix until we can have the whole thing replaced - it's only a matter of time before we have another leak it's so old.

After water was restored, that night the back of the toilet tank would not stop filling and overflowed, so did the washer even though it was off. To stop the problem we had to turn off water to toilet and washer.

I assume this was caused by our repair given the timeframe. Any ideas why this would happen and what can be done to repair - I like to be completely informed before calling in the professionals so I don't get 'hosed'!

Thank you in advance for any advice - Caroline in Centreville, MD

  • How can I remove rust stains from exterior vinyl siding?

My window air conditioner dripped outside and left rust stains down our vinyl siding - I just tried power washing it with siding cleaner and I also used a Mr. Clean Magic eraser; neither worked all the way - it may be stained in to the siding. Any ideas of how to remove it or cover it? The siding is white. Thanks for any help!

  • Can I shim a cabinet base from the top rather than the bottom?

I asked about shimming previously, we are having granite countertops installed today and one side of cabinet was 1/4" low - old house, so probably the floors, not the cabinet itself.

We could not get the cabinet up from the floor to get a shim under it even after removing bottom trim - can't find where they screwed it to the wall or anything.

Knowing how rigged things are in the house, they very well may have crazy glued the darn thing to the wall - it ain't moving!

So I found a 1/4" piece of wood and screwed it to the top of the base on the low side - it fit right over the side rim - do you think this will fly with the countertop installers?

Why wouldn't it work if not? Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Is it just me, or does Nutrisystem food taste horrible?

I just ordered a 1 month supply of it and after the first 2 meals packaged it all up and sent it back - I've always heard the food was so good too. Yuck! I'm trying Diet To Go next.

  • A dog just attached my SUV - how much should it cost to remove the deep scratches?

I just had a dog try to get at my 2 Boxers that were in my SUV - he left about 4 fairly deep scratches about 6-10 inches long on both sides of the vehicle. The owner has offered to reimburse me for the cost of getting them fixed - they look too deep to just buff out. Any ideas how much this should cost? I'd like to keep it cheap, as she was a single working mother and I do not need it to be absolutely pristine.

    Thanks for any advice!

  • Has anyone tried Dynovite supplement for their dog? Was it any good?

It's supposed to help with itching and shedding, but it's fairly expensive - was wondering if anyone here had any first hand experience with it.

  • How do I shim a cabinet base?

I'm having granite countertops installed and need to level one of the cabinets by bringing one corner up 1/4 inch. Is a shim just a little slice of wood you buy at a hardware store? Do they come in different sizes and you just shove it under the base? Thanks for any info in advance!
