  • Home water pump questions?

*Apology in advance, I dont know anything about this stuff!

We've had a long running problem with our water pump...it happens irregularly, sometimes not for months. The problem is that sometimes it wont 'kick on' and trips the breaker. My husband can usually get it running by resetting the breaker, knocking on the side of the pump, and pushing the 'on' lever. He walked me through it earlier today and I got it to run, but it stopped again, and I cant get it going again..

Anything you can tell me about what's going wrong, how to solve it, etc would be appreciated.

Also, I was trying to look it up online but I dont know what type of pump it is. I'll describe it - its a little metal tank that sits on top of the bigger water tank. It has a little metal lever that you move one way to turn it off and hold it slightly to turn it on. What words should I use to search for this pump?

Please feel free to share anything else you know about pumps, prices, etc.

Thank you so much, in advance.

  • How do you remove programs that start up automatically on your computer?

I'm talking about those little icons next to the time on the bottom bar of the computer screen. How do I stop these programs from automatically starting when I boot up the computer?

Are there any programs I SHOULD keep for the startup?

  • What are some (free!) steps I can take to improve the speed of my computer?

My computer has been running alot slower lately. Sometimes it freezes up, but most of the time its just slow - slower to start up, slower when I am doing more than one thing at a time like viewing two or more webpages, and slower to shut down.

I have McAfee virus software from my university. I cant find a way to request a full scan...itlooks like the program works by doing a slow scan of files as soon everytime I turn on the computer....but I'm not sure if its going through all the files. Would it be better to download a free virus scanner?

Some people may say this is a space issue, but according to My Computer, my C drive still has 190GB of free space, out of 228GB.

Will deleting temporary internet files help?

Do you have any other suggestions on what I can do?

  • Can you help me move some music over from Itunes to Windows Media Player?

Sorry, I'm new to all this so I need any help I can get...

I need to move my ITunes music into Windows Media Player 11. When I specify the folder in WMP it doesnt move the music files to the library. I think it has something to do with the fact that the ITunes files say they are protected, and they are in mpeg4 format instead of mp3. Actually, even when I click on an ITunes music file and say to open with WMP it is unable to play the song.

Is there any way to get by this? I got this cheap Coby mp3 player and want to move the files over. However the instructions are given for WMP, and when I opened ITunes there was no way to sync it to the mp3 player.

  • Cream for puffy irritated eyes?

My eyelids, upper and lower, have been red, dry with flaky skin and itchy. The itchiness comes and goes. But when I wake up in the morning they are very puffy and hurt!

I've been using Eucerin's Aquaphor Healing Ointment for dry, cracked, or irritated skin...its basically like a medicated vaseline and although it helps the dryness and flaky skin it doesnt do anything for the itchiness, the puffiness, and the pain. Does anyone have some recommendations - creams for sensitive skin, that are acceptable for the eyes, and can help out with these problems?

  • Ideas for sides to go with shake and bake pork chops?

My husband wants shake and bake pork chops tonight and I was wondering what I should cook with them. Does anyone have some ideas before I head to the store in a little while?

SIDE NOTE: When I have coooked pork chops in the past they get really dry. I think it is a matter of overcooking them, and I think I do it because I worry about them being under cooked, especially if I have bigger pork chops. Does anyone have any advice on how to keep them moist? Advice on cooking time or how to check them without having to cut them up too much?

  • Advice and info about the cost of mammary tumor removal and spay in 7 year old, otherwise healthy, female dog?

We recently noticed a small lump on my dog. We took her to the vet and they are pretty sure that its a tumor on her mammary gland. She is 7 years old and hasn't been spayed so the vet suggested that we spay her too. The problem is that the vet called back with an estimate yesterday and said it would $800 to remove the tumor and $1100 for the spay - a total of about 2 grand...and we certainly do not have this kind of money!

If anyone has experience with this...does this sound like an unreasonable estimate to you?

What should we do to deal with this? We love our dog and want to do everything we can to help her, within our financial means. Should we go to another vet to get a second opinion? Should we just have the tumor removed and biopsyed and then go from there? Or should we not even bother with a spay since research shows inconsistent results about whether the spay is effective for future prevention or not?

Please help by sharing yoru expeirence and good web sites!
