Looking for a House, Not a Person?
I am in search of information about a house that was built in Los Angeles in 1926. I managed to figure out which Enumeration District it was in and flip through the 1930 census until I found the correct street and block. However, the house is missing! It lists the houses on either side but not the house in question. I assume the people who lived there weren't home when the census taker came. :(
My question is, do I have any online resources left at my disposal to find info on the original builders/owners of this house? Or do I have to go to a hall of records or something in person and request the documents? And does anyone from LA know where exactly I would go, if this is the case? Thanks!!
2 AnswersGenealogy9 years agoWho gets the tip on a takeout order?
I've seen lots of questions about whether or not you should tip on a takeout order at a restaurant. But what I want to know is: If you DO tip, who gets the tip? Is it split between all of the servers? What if the place is pick-up only and has no servers? Is it split between everyone who works there, or does your cashier get it all?
5 AnswersOther - Dining Out1 decade agoLooking for a website with photos of urban poverty in the 1980s, made by a European man?
So I know this is a little vague, but I can't remember the name of this website and I'd like to find it again. This European white man lived with homeless people, poor people, disenfranchised people etc. in the 1980s and took tons of photos. I believe he has a book also. On his website he writes about race and class issues in America from an outsiders' perspective. There is also a bit where he lives with members of the Klan to try and find out how they operate. If anyone knows this website please post the link, I'd be very grateful!
1 AnswerOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoI had my teeth cleaned at the dentist today, and there was something wrong with the water?
So, the dental hygienist went to spray some water in my mouth with the little hose so I could rinse out my mouth. The water was NOT water; it was the most bitter-tasting, awful thing I had ever tasted in my life, and it was slightly effervescent. I asked her what she had just put in my mouth, and she said "it's just water." I insisted that it wasn't, and that it was very gross, so she changed out the water tank and then it tasted normal.
So what was in that "water" that she gave me? Could some chemical have gotten into it? Have I been poisoned? It was seriously the worst thing I have ever tasted.
