Do you know how to turn on a Sony TV with out an obvious power button and an unprogrammed universal remote?
I have a Sony Trinitron TV that does not appear to have an obvious power on/off button. I do not have a remote for this TV, and would like to program a universal remote. All the instructions I have found request that I turn on the TV before I start the programming process to the Universal Remote.
Is anyone familiar with this type of TV and knows an alternate way to turn it on?
Does anyone know a shortcut to use a universal remote BEFORE it is fully programmed to the device to turn the power on?
Thanks for your help!

2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoMy sister's husband has told her he will kill her, but she stays with him... how do I protect her.?
My sister has been in an abusive relationship for over 20 years. Over the weekend he pointed a gun at her and said that he would end her... He would kill her. She did not contact the police. No law enforcement involvement has been made. She did however have a friend drive her over 250 miles over to my parents house in order for her to be safe and out of the county with her two young children in tow.
Her husband calls over to my parents house and makes nicey-nicey and says that he is sorry and that he was angry and didn't mean it. Of course, the classic cycle of an abuser.
Since nothing was done at the time of the incident. I do not know how I can protect her or her children, now knowing now volatile the situation is. I am worried for my sister's life.
Does anyone have any good legal ideas as to how I can intervene or other family members can protect her and the children. When she chooses to stay with him after he has threatened her life.
She lives in King County, Washington State. I would like to know what rights she has. What rights and or legal, moral, or ethical obligations do we have as family members to protect her and the children.
7 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoReport this as abuse, or is there another option?
When someone writes a question on yahoo answers about self harm... Do you report this as abuse?
Is there another option to alert the yahoo community that particular person needs help?
I used to be in a position where I was a mandatory reporter, but I no longer am in the field. For most of the cases... you can't really report because you don't have any personal information about them.
I do not have any medical expertise per se and I am not a social worker, psychiatrist or something like that... I only speak from personal experience. I do feel MORALLY obligated to let a person know in as kind and loving way possible NOT TO HARM THEMSELVES. I always provide upbeat advice against harm, cite my sources from places like webmd when it comes to questions like..."what will an overdose of Tylenol do to my body?"
Does this actually help the person, or just encourage them?
What LEGAL obligation, if any do we have as community members?
I really couldn't find anything specific enough under the actual yahoo answer community guidelines. I did see that you are not to write hurtful remarks or incite acts of violence etc. But what about self harm... is anyone doing anything about that? It seems so common.
I only want to see the person get the help they need. If I can do that, I want to show them that someone cares.
4 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWhat should my daughter invest in... a Savings Account or Mutual Fund?
What would be the best investment for retirement as a youth?
My daughter is 17 years old and has decided upon her own that she would like to begin investing for her retirement. She has already saved $100.00 and is willing to set aside $10.00 of her allowance a month to continue to put aside for her retirement. She does not work or have another source of income. She understands that she will not be able to touch this money until she is 65 or older with certain accounts.
What would be the best investment for her to use? Since the amount of money is small would a savings account or something like a mutual fund be better?
If she were to open a mutual fund or some fund specific to retirement, we both recognize that their may be some minimum amount of money that is required. I am hoping to find an account that she could open with the $100.00. We also realize that you might not be able to place in $10.00 at a time or per month and that she would have to save the money and place it in periodically.
WHAT RECOMMENDATIONS DO YOU HAVE AND WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE THIS PARTICULAR INVESTMENT FOR A NON WORKING 17 YEAR OLD? I am specifically looking for a recommendation of a mutual fund or some account that can be set up and where to set up the account, how to go about setting up the account. I am aware of famous fortune 500 company names... but they do not allow individual investors with $100.00 to invest to get started. Specific detailed information would be helpful. Instructions that are easy enough for a 17 year old to understand. I am trying to avoid something that has a lot of fees, or you have to put in a minimum amount each month etc.
If you have any further advice for a 17 year old learning to manage her money, I would greatly appreciate it.
I am trying to be responsible and teach her about money and budgeting BEFORE she goes out into the real world or goes to college. Especially before she turns 18 and can get a credit card on her own.
6 AnswersInvesting1 decade agoWhat do you do about Offensive Responses?
I am beginning to wonder if answering questions is such a good idea. I am new to this, I have had some of my answers chosen as the best answer, but then I have also received comments like..."You look like a fool," or WTF...who do you think you are?" I have also spent time putting together what I felt was a good formulated question, with all of the relevant background information, but then I don't receive an answer or I receive really lame responses that do not answer the question at all.
Is this just part of the process?
How do you respond to answers or emails that are offensive?

3 AnswersInvesting1 decade agoHow to file a motion to compel to answer interrogatories?
Background Information:
Both parties reside in Washington state. Neither party has an attorney. I compiled a list of questions / the interrogatories and served them last month. My understanding is that the other party had 30 days plus mailing time to answer or respond to the interrogatories. That time has past.
He has stated that he is refusing to answer the questions. The interrogatories are about his finances and a business that he is claiming he no longer has. I need the questions answered in order to do an accurate Child Support Worksheet. I can not determine his true and actual income. Because he never filed taxes on this business and basically left no paper trail. I am aware of the operation of the business because my 17 year old daughter stated that she helped him in the operation of it. The case is sort of a he said / she said until I get the information from the interrogatories. I am only trying to determine his true and actual income in order to receive the appropriate amount of child support.
At this time his child support is set for the imputed amount for his age. I know his actual income from one job, but not the business. However when he submitted his bank statements his deposits were on average $4,000.00 higher a month than what they should be per month. That is why I believe that he is still operating the business, even though he is claiming that he sold the vending machines and no longer is in operation of the business.
He has admitted to having the business, but just in the past. He never reported it to the IRS, the child support worksheets, etc. But he has admitted both in writing through declarations and in open court that the business existed in the past. He is just claiming that the business does not exist now.
My Questions:
How do I file a motion to compel him to answer the interrogatories? Is there a special form? Do I just submit a declaration explaining the circumstances, that I need the information in order to determine accurate child support worksheet information and then use a blank / standard motion form?
Can I compel him to do this before trial?
Is there a way that I can go for back child support, since he intentionally hid income?
