I have a Samsung phone I got from T-mobile but I never used it. Now, my relative is visiting me for 3 months and I would like to buy a sim from walmart or so and put it in that phone. Probably I need to unlock the phone first and then buy a sim . Can anybody suggest me what are the options?

I am applying for visa and was trying to schedule an appointment today (Sep 17th 2012) using the new site ustraveldocs.com/in. However, when the page for MRV visa fee receipt comes, the page is not accepting the receipt I have. I belong to Chennai consulate (I'm from Kerala) and paid the $160 fee at an HDFC bank at Pune on August 27, 2012. The message I get is this

"No valid record can be found for the entered receipt number. Please validate that your receipt number is correct and that you have paid the correct amount for the visa which you are applying for".

Does anyone know the site is up and running or whom should I contact?

I would like to fly from Dallas, TX to Missoula, Montana to visit the Glacier national park this June. the air tickets are too expensive ~ 600 bucks from Dallas. Can anyone suggest a smart way to reach montana? Any closeby airports within 2 hours of drive so that we can save money?

I watch TV stations and movies online. In some cases where the video is streaming through real player, I am getting the video but the color balance is not right. So the video looks redish and/or pinkish. Youtube or other real payer videos I download are perfectly alright. This is onlt for some videos or channels. I hope I can correct it with some corrections. I have a nice health insurance with vision plan from employer. My eyes are over sensitive to sun light and lately, the sun glasses I use are not effective (I use $ 20-30 ones from departmental stores and never used any branded ones). Can I get any help from the vision plan to buy a high quality sun glass? Are sun glasses usually covered in the plan (I have a nice vision plan).

I am vacationing from Dec25-29 at SF, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. When I looked for rental cars from SFO airport, its 35$ per day. Right now, for next week end (Dec5) I can see last minute deals from SFO at around 20$ per day. Is it going to go down by that time or is it in 30"s during holidays at SFO airport? Any suggestions to rent cars from 25-29 in a cheap price is appreciated.

I have a saving account that has 10000.00 dollrs. The saving account is not helping me much in terms of interest. I want to invest the money in something smart and get some money. I am thinking about CD's but the interest rates are low now. I am afraid of investing in stock as I have to be bit conservatiove right now.

I bought a used car recently (2005 Hyundai Elantra, 72K miles). It was making a grouling sound from rear when I apply brakes. I went to Pepboys as they have a free brake inspection, and the mechanic said that the brake pads are good, but brake fluid is dirty. So I have done brake fluid flush. Still that sound comes ONLY FIRST OR SECOND TIME WHEN I BRAKE in the morning. So that sound goes itself after few initial stops. Does anyone knows the problem?

I have recently done a break fluid flush for my Hyundai Elantra Sedan GLS, 2005 and 72K. After few days only I have realized the fact that company recommend only Dot 3 or 4. I dont know what that guy used & I have moved our from that place. So is it a big issue if he has not used Dot or 4? How does it affect my car?

I am going to Florida from Texas this week (1300 miles) and taking a car which I bought recently. It's a used 2005 Hyundai Elantra with 70,000 miles. The car is generally in a good condition. I have done the following maintenance works last week.

1) Transmission fluid flush with ValvolineMax life ATF.

2) Engine oil flush with 5W 30Pennzoil

3) Brake oil flush

4) Changed all the 4 tires with Pirelli all season tires

5) A brand new battery (Duralast fromAuto zone)

6) Brake check and brake pads are good.

7) Coolant level is good and looks clean (clean light green liquid and not dirty)

I took the car to a AAA free 38 point inspection. They told that I need to change wipers, the upper and lower hoses as they are soft, and PCV valve. I tried to asked the mechanic in detail, but he was not much interested in explaining and seemed just want to get the work done.

So can anyone provide me some suggestions on anymore checkings/maintenance I should perform before the trip?

Last week I bought a used car. It is a Hyundai Elantra 4Dr GLS sedan, 70500 miles. I have done the following works:

1) replaced the battery with a brand new one

2) Motor oil flush with Penzoil 5W 30

3) Brake system flush

4) Performed a 38 point AAA check

5) Coolant level is good and looks pretty clean ( clear green solution).

6) Transmission flush with Valvoline Maxlife ATF.

When I checked the Hyundai manual, it requires SPII or SPIII ATF. I asked thhis to the mechanic where I did the transmission flush (kwik Kar) and he said Valvoline Maxlife is compatible for SPIII.

It it true? I have to make sure that I am not killing the transmission.

I am graduating soon and applied for reserch position (postdoc) at many universities. I got a phone call from a professor who is well established and in a top institute. Another calls are from small labs and new professors. I like to join the first lab as he is a big shot and I really love the field. Now, the problem is that it's now almost 1 1/2 months after the first phone conversation. After that he didnt say neither yes nor no to my application. I did send follow-up mails reiterating my nterest to work with him. He sent mails in reply saying, "I will contact you soon". 2 weeks back I sent a mail asking him for a visit to his lab (a usual process normally professors offer, here I myself suggested to him). he replied that "it's a good idea and I will contact you with suggestions". So I waited and its now 2 weeks. I tried to call him yesterday, and left a message. Then I got his secretary on line and she told me that he didnt select anyone yet and on the process and is very busy.

My question is how to craft a nice mail so that I can really get him into the process. He has so many administartive responsibilities. So he is extremely busy and I really want to catch his attention and convince him that I have to get an answer from him.

It's few days now and he hasn't contacted me back yet. I have decided to send a follow-up mail. I have prepared the letter saying that I am so much ineterested and is a perfect fit to his team. But I am bit scared as I really want to get this job and send his the perfect message. I have applied for a research position in a lab last week and professor replied me this,

"Please give me a phone number such that I can call you next week, let's say Monday afteroon if that suits you".

I replied that monday is absolutely fine with me. But he didnt call me yet today. I am really worried. How to follow-up or remind him of this situation? He is a very busy scientist working at a big insitute. Is it good for me to wait today and then write a mail to him tomorrow? If so, what should I write?
