  • Do galleries look down on self taught artists?

I'm so far self taught, still trying to decide whether or not art school is for me, and I was wondering if galleries look down to self taught artists? I don't personally believe that how good or respectable an artist is should have anything to do with there education or having a degree, so I would assume that they don't. But I don't have experience with galleries yet so I wouldn't know. What I do know is that there are tons of self taught artists selling in galleries all of the time, but is this because they already have recognition? Thanks

  • How can I fix my mixed/multiracial hair more easily?

I am multiracial (white, black, and indian) male and my hair type is pretty thick, medium curls, and somewhat frizzy. It is a little shorter than shoulder length. I normally wear it straight by letting it dry almost completely, blowdrying while combing, and then using a straightening iron to decrease volume and make to get rid of frizz and then add hairspray. I really like my hair after doing this, but I really wish there was a way to do my hair more quickly being a lazy type of person who doesnt like spending 20 minutes on my hair at a time hahah. I'd like to wear my hair in a loose wave but my hair is very thick and I don't think that could be done without straightening first. Anyways, does anyone out there know a way to do my hair more easily/quickly without it looking like a mess? I want to wear it straight or in a loose wave.

Oh, And I don't use any products on my hair that I leave in or anything. I'd like to know some that would make my hair heavier, because I do have a problem where if I don't put enough hairspray my hair will sort of blow around, especially on a windy day. Something that would make it less frizzy and more manageable would be good too. Thanks. :)

  • Would I need a permit to draw people as a street artist for money?

I know that (in most cities) in the US it is legal to busk/street perform and am interested in experimenting with it as an artist. I plan on trying different things, and I'll be doing this in a city where it is legal to busk, but I was wondering if drawing people for money (charging 5 dollars a drawing, etc) can be done without a permit? Thanks. :)

  • What are Pittsburgh neighborhoods/areas like?

I have been considering moving to Pittsburgh, and I am an artist. I would like to get a better understanding of the city, and would appreciate it if someone would give me an overview of different areas. I have heard that Southside Flats and Shadyside were somewhat artsy and lively places, and may consider them. Also, could you explain whether northside or southside are safer in general. And is it possible to live in Pittsburgh without a car? Thank you.

  • How can I fix my router?

I have had a Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G Router for a while, about a year ago there was a thunder storm that caused the lights to go out, and the router stopped working. I'm not sure what could have happened, but I'm wondering if there is a way for me to fix it so that I won't have to buy another one. thanks.
