  • Why do I need glasses to read newspaper print in artificial light but not in sunlight?

I can't read newspaper print anymore indoors unless I hold the print to my face and look at it through one eye (because it's too close to focus both). I'm far-sighted, so at one time I just held the paper farther away, but my eyes are a little weaker so I use glasses with 1.75X magnification, having progressed from 1.5X. Yet as always I can focus normally when I'm outdoors and don't need glasses, the print is sharp and clear. What's up with my eyes?

  • what does this error mean in XP home ed.?

All of the dvd and cd drives on this computer are working properly according to the device manager. but whenever we try to copy files onto a cd or dvd, the error window comes up and says "D: inaccessible. Incorrect function." What is going on? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, that went smoothly. But I still get this error on all of the dvd and cd drives.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks.

  • Why Is the number 666 a secret?

So much has been written about this number being the name of a man and the number of the beast. Does anyone else notice the challenge part of the verse, ie. (paraphrased) "Let those with intelligence understand?" Let me try:

As far as I can tell, all of the speculation about this number involves a search for who the number represents. In every explanation I have ever read, it amounts to an accusation of somebody being the beast. Another name specifically given to the beast in the same scripture is "Accuser". So anyone who reads the verse and begins to wonder who it could be has begun the act of accusing another. The very act of accusing is the work of the beast. When anyone reads the riddle and considers the number to be someone else, then the name of the beast becomes the name of the reader. The number is a trick. That's the secret to the riddle of the number of the beast. How did I do?

  • Why do people give bad ratings to good answers?

If people don't like somebody's answer because it is more insightful and intelligent than anything they can come up with, can't they just leave it alone, why is it necessary to try to put someone else down to make themselves look better? Aren't these the kind of people who cut off Galileos ear, ostracized Da Vinci, and butchered Christ?

There, in the same spirit as so many who already know the answer to the questions they ask, I've asked 3 questions at the same time just to make a point. I am not in competition with anyone out there, and my words are original not cut and pasted. If my answers are bad I know it, when they're good I also know it. Please don't berate them out of jealousy. I call foul, ad hominen!

  • When public schools rely on income tax, why do people with kids get deductions but people with no kids don't?

I get annoyed when I go to a cash register and the clerks can't count, and when writers can't spell and use bad grammar, and when High School kids can't read. I don't think the parents of those kids are entitled to waste my money to pay for schools, when they don't have to put any money in at all. Does anyone else think this is unfair? Can anyone provide a rational justification for this?
