  • TSH level rising for Hypothyroidism?

After having my baby my TSH level was 0.02 and so my doctor reduced me from 125mcg a day to 100. I was tested 6 weeks later and my levels were 1.5. 3 months later my levels are 4.45. My doctor has ruled this as acceptable and a re-test scheduled for 6 months. I'm concerned that my levels will keep rising and that 6 months is too long a wait. Also, I thought any level over 3 was too high.

  • My sister can't swallow, can't read, can't speak and can't understand?

My sister was okay a few weeks ago but started to notice she was having problems pronouncing some words. Doc diagnosed stress and put her on Prozac. Since then she hasn't slept more than an hour a night and the speech problem kept getting worse. She had an anxiety attack and her blood pressure shot through the roof (184) so took her to hospital and she was given beta blockers and valium. She got double-vision which is yet to go away. They also did a CT scan and it was clear. Now 2 weeks later she is in hospital again. She can only get one word out at a time, can't make herself understood and doesn't understand most of what is said to her. The docs think stress. Anyone have any experience of similar? We are in UK so no chance of 2nd opinions - you're stuck with the NHS!!

  • My heart sounds strange?

Hi. I am 10 weeks pregnant and hypothyroid (on medication) and was playing around with the baby heart beat listening device and decided to listen to my own heart and was shocked at how it sounded. It is beating very fast but instead of the steady beat it is like a whoosh noise but very fast. I had noticed recently that I am very out of breath on exertion when previously I would not have been, and I am finding it difficulty to go to sleep without being propped up. I've mentioned this to several heath professions as I've been checked for both thyroid and baby and they have not been concerned (nor have they listened to my heart!)

  • How do I help my friend who has money problems?

My friend's husband just up and left after 20 years of marriage and left her with 3 young boys to look after. He seems to be depressed and they are going to relate. However, she hasn't go two pennies to rub together but is reluctant to take a legal route in case she sparks off a mental breakdown in her husband. She won't take cash from me but is there any practical ways I could help her without seeming to give charity?

  • 22 month old Toddler suddenly just wants her mum?

I get one sleep in a week on Saturday's when hubby gets DD up in the morning and keeps her busy till 9am when they both come in and get me up.

Lately though it is all mummy mummy mummy for everything! So when hubby goes in to get her up all he gets is 'away away away' and 'mummy' 'where's mummy?'

She's happy enough to play with him during the day and go out for walks etc with him but wants only me for getting her up, giving her breakfast and giving her baths.

Is this just a stage? I don't want to give up the one sleep in a week I get?!?!

  • Time between periods lengthening?

I'm 37 and I have noticed in the last year that my periods have gone from a 28 day cycle to nearer 37 days. This month the length is now up to 40 days. Could I be pre-menopausal or is there another reason? I have put on quite a lot of weight this year - could that be the cause?

  • Elderly mother - problems with her behaviour?

I live in the UK. My mum is 77 years old and has been steadily getting more and more difficult.

She has become more and more infirm over the last couple of years and although we live quite far away expects us to go down and clean her house and visit her weekly. She refuses to hear of us hiring a cleaner.

She is very impatient with my sister's toddlers (they are normal, active children) and acts like she's going to have a nervous breakdown everytime they make any noise.

I've offered to phone social services to see if they can come out and assess her situation and she's refused that. I've also told her that Age Concern will come out and do a security check of her house and she's refused that (she insists on putting the ironing board up against the back door).

Just recently she's got worse. She rang me the other morning insisting her bladder was bust and that I had to take her the casulty right away. Turned out it was cystitis and the emergency doc was very angry. However she offered my mum antibiotics and my mum insisted she was allergic. The doc rang my mum's GP and the GP assured her my mum is not allergic.

I invited my mum up for lunch on Sat and she turned up with stew for herself as she doesn't like my food. We then noticed a urine smell and after she left it seems she had 'leaked' on my sofa.

My sister then came to see her and found the bathroom in a 'disgusting' state (not cleaned up from an accident).

A lot of her teeth have fallen out recently and she won't make an appointment with the dentist.

We are at a loss as to what to do. I phoned Social Services and they told me they won't do anything without her permission which she won't give. I care about my mum but am finding her really hard to deal with when she won't accept help.

Has anyone got any suggestions about a way forward?

  • Files on Windows NT to Windows XP?

I have a computer with Windows NT with no usb drive or capability. I don't think it will network to our Windows XP server. I have tried using floppies but when inserted into xp computers it asks for them to be formatted. I think the way forward is to source an external hard drive with a serial port. However, I can't seem to locate any. Has anyone got any ideas of how to proceed?

  • My 16 month old has been bit by another baby?

My little one was bitten quite hard by another baby at day nursery on Thursday. The nursery were ringing the parents of the baby that day. They also put that baby on closer supervison. However on Friday - he bit my daugther again (not as bad this time). They're moving him gradually into another room this week (for older babies). However, today, they were put side by side in the high chair and he bit her hand! The nursery rang to apologise and said they would not let it happen again as the two of them would be kept apart. What would you do?

  • Travelling with a 15 month old?

I'm going on holiday which will involve a one hour ferry ride at 1pm followed by a 5 hour drive to our holiday cottage. How would you suggest structuring the trip regarding food and snacks. I'm hoping to give her a fairly sizeable lunch about 11.30 am before we leave for the ferry. What sort of food / snacks can be prepared for on the go or can we buy things on the road?

  • Diet for 14 month old?

What is your 14 month old eating. Mine still seems desperate for milk first thing. At the moment I give her milk in a beaker when she wakes up at 7am. We get ready for the day and then I drop her at nursery at 8.30 am. They then give her porridge right away. This used to work but I know that she won't want the milk shortly. How do other mum's work it? What are you doing? Some ideas would be good.

  • 1 year old with swollen eye?

Hi - my dd sort of took a small tumble over her pram (learning to walk!) last night. She had a quick cry and cheered up very quickly. She went to bed as normal.

When she woke up this morning her right eye was swollen but didn't look bruised and didn't seem to be bothering her.

Am I right to assume that it took a knock when she fell over her pram. I put a cold compress on it and she seems happy enough.

  • Worried about getting pregnant again.?

In the last 6 weeks of my first pregnancy I would wake up in the middle of the night several times with panic attacks and I'd have to get up and knit or drink calamine tea to calm down again. I think it was hormones and a fright I had with a very stuffy nose in the middle of the night. After I had my baby I went back to normal.

However, although I'd dearly love another baby the thought of going through this experience again is filling me with dread. Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so, how did you cope?

  • 1 Year old behaving badly?!?

My little one is just 12 mths old. She is trying to walk at the moment but recently I have found her getting frustrated over all sorts of things. While she used to be easy going she is now screaming and crying when things don't go her way first time. Is this normal? Should I be disciplining the tantrums? And if so, how on earth do you show a 1 year old that their behaviour is not acceptable.

I don't want her turning into a spoilt brat but I also love her loads and want her to be happy so any suggestions on how to do this with as much love and kindness as possible?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Changing from bottle to cup?

My daughter is nearly 1 year old. She takes one bottle of formula in the morning, water in sippy cups during the day and one bottle of formula before going to bed.

Does anyone have any advice on how I change from that special time of feeding baby a bottle (warm, snuggly, cosy) to a sippy cup (prob with a spout) instead.

I'm told I should do this for the sake of her teeth etc.

  • Sanyo television screen flickering/clicking?

I have a Sanyo CE32LC81-B and recently its screen has been flickering when it has been on for an hour or so. If I turn it off for 5 mins it seems to stop for while before starting up again.

  • Why do some people give opinions instead of answers?

Instead of answering the question asked - have to give their opinion instead. I find this so annoying sometimes. For example - you see a lady ask a question about baby constipation and all of a sudden you get all these people telling her off for not breastfeeding (only one example). You see lots of people who don't answer the question but spout off about their opinions instead. I think if they can't answer the question they should keep their opinions to themselves - what do you think?

  • Anyone recommend a place nice to stay in the Yorkshire Dales? (Self-catering) - near shops/restaurants?

We're going for a few days holiday to see friends in Northampton but I was thinking I'd like to spend some time in the Yorkshire Dales first.
