  • Mortgage Loan and Filing Taxes?

Hello, my husband and I are trying to get a mortgage loan, and everything is working well, with the exception that they have asked us for proof that we filed our latest taxes. We indeed filed them, but we were on an extension, and only filed them about three weeks ago. In talking with IRS today, they said that it takes about 6 to 8 weeks for the return to be processed, and therefore we really don't have "proof", written or otherwise, that we filed the taxes. Along with the taxes, we also submitted payment of the amount due, which hasn't been cashed yet... Can anyone tell me if they have ever been in a similar situation, and if / how you were able to resolve it?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated...!

    Thank you.

Could anyone please tell me where I can get a Book of Mormon/Doctrine and Covenants/Pearl of Great Price combo in Italian (Libro di Mormon/Dottrina e Alleanze/Perla di Gran Prezzo)?

I cannot find it at Deseret Book, nor mormon.org, and I am at a loss.

  • For those of you who have had a miscarriage...?

I had a miscarriage at my 10th weeks of pregnancy. This happened a little over a month ago. I am wondering, how soon after your miscarriage/d&c did you get your period?

I know this varies for everyone, and it depends on hormones, but I would like to get pregnant again soon, so I'm looking to get a general idea...

    Thank you all.

  • Correlation between intelligence and Atheism?

I was reading this article on The Telegraph, which purported that those who possess congenital intelligence, or extensive education, are far less likely to believe in God.

I'm very interested in seeing how some of you will respond to this claim, without getting into name-calling and absurd accusations (if possible), certainly not a sign of intelligence -- but I see a lot of that going on here.

I should have probably prefaced this question by saying that I do have religious beliefs.

BTW -- here is the article, if anyone cares to read it.

  • 666 - how do you interpret this?

This is something I am curious about--

"Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six," (Rev. 13:18)

What is the general interpretation of how to "calculate" the number? Is this supposed to be some sort of gematria based on the alpha-character's value, or some other method?

According to something I recently read, what the Bible is saying is that the future antichrist will have a name that when it is written in Greek, its numeric equivalent will be 666.

Is this your or your church's interpretation as well?

  • Mini (or Pocket) Beagles?

I am looking into getting a dog that would be a good pet for my 13 month old daughter. I grew up with dogs, and want her to have the same experience.

I was looking into good companions for kids, and came across an article about Mini (pocket) Beagles. I love Beagles, but right now I don't have a space for a slightly bigger pet... so if a breed of "mini" beagles really exists, it would solve my problems.

Does anyone know anything about this breed? I don't want to get a puppy from a mill that indiscriminately breeds animals to get "signatures" puppies. I cannot find a conclusive answer on the internet.

Any reputable information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

  • Another question for LDS - regarding homosexuality...?

I know I already posted something similar a few days ago. But, based on the answers, I still have one question:

a lot of you brought up the subject of intimate relations before marriage. It's a sin, whether you are straight or not. But since homosexuals are not allowed to marry, that would preclude any of them from ever engaging in intimate relations with someone they care for...

Some of you have said that the homosexual proclivity per se is not sin, but acting on it is. I would like to know, however... If someone is LDS, and is also gay, how can they reconcile this fact? If they are born with those propensities, how can they live the gospel and yet be true to themselves?

I have a very dear friend who is battling this, and I see him struggling so much... I feel so bad. I am not mormon, but he comes to me for advise, and I don't know how to help him.

What would you do, and how would help someone dear to you who is going through something like this? Please help me out?

    Thank you...

  • LDS - a question for you, out of curiosity...?

What is the most bizarre, outlandish thing anyone has said to you about your religion? I don't necessarily mean "rude", rather: the strangest misconception or fallacy about any area of mormonism?

Just for kicks... I'd like to know.

  • This dead horse has been beat to death, I'm sure, but please indulge me?

Why do people feel the need to be rude and to put others down because of religious disagreements? I mean, what's with this crap? Why can't they politely agree to disagree and get on with it? Wouldn't that be so much easier? It's not like anyone is going to covert or convince anyone else, anyway...

  • LDS - is it possible to believe in your doctrine if you don't believe that Joseph Smith was truly a prophet?

    Ok, here is the background:

I have several mormon friends. I found out today that one of them does not believe that Joseph Smith (Brigham Young even less!) was truly a prophet, yet she believes that the Church and its doctrines are true and right... She is convinced that God operated through Smith despite of Smith himself. That although he was not a prophet appointed by God, he convinced himself he was, to the point where God used him as an instrument to re-establish the true gospel on earth. Well, anyway, it's confusing to me.

I think your Church stands on whether Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. "There is no middle ground", J.F. Smith said in Doctrines of Salvation, and I think he is right. Yet, I have never met, in person, a mormon more dedicated to her Church than she is, or more convinced about its doctrines than she is.

Have you ever met anyone who have had these sort of "incongruencies", I guess, or better yet, doubts, and yet go on to become a strong member of your church? Do you think it's possible to have a real "testimony" if one has these types of doubts?

  • LDS, I am looking for a book...?

It's called "Ancient Apostles" by president David O. McKay... I have looked in Deseret Books, Amazon.com, and a few other places, but I cannot find it anywhere.

Does anyone have any suggestion where I could locate a copy?

Please, if you are going to answer "why are you reading mormon stuff", etc., don't. I like to read everything. Ok?

  • Another question for the LDS regarding Jesus' sacrifice?

I have been reading "A Marvelous Work and a Wonder," and run into this:

"Christ atoned for Adam's sin, leaving us responsible only for our own sins. One of our Articles of Faith states: men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression." (p. 102)

D&C 42:18 says: "[...] Thou shalt not kill; and he that kills shall not have forgiveness in this world, nor in the world to come."

In the Journal of Discourses, B. Young has stated that "there is not a man or woman who violates the covenants made with their god that will not be required to pay the debt. the blood of christ will never wipe that out your own blood must atone for it." http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cdm4/document.php?CIS...

I take Mr. Young's statements with a grain of salt, but I'm confused about the mormon take on Christ's sacrifice. Based on these statements, and D&C, does this mean that the atonement of Christ did not atone for *all* sins, for everyone's sins?

My Christian upbringing taught me that Jesus sacrificed for everyone's sins. Those who receive His grace (the Good News) are declared "not guilty."

    [Isaiah 53:5 / Romans 3:24 - for example]

Personally, I believe in being saved by Grace, and maintaining that salvation through our works and decisions in this lifetime. Basically, personal responsibility is not less important than our Lord's sacrifice. I am not a mainstream christian with regards to this point.

But how we to obtain salvation, if Jesus only sacrificed for the sins of Adam? And, if someone committed murder, but repented, would Jesus' sacrifice not save him/her?

Can anyone help with this concept? - thx.

  • A question for LDS in the forum: what is your *personal* view on...?

    Homosexuals?

I understand that the LDS' Church official stand follows the general christian based consensus: it's a sin. Am I correct? "We want to help these people, to strengthen them, to assist them with their problems and to help them with their difficulties. But we cannot stand idle if they indulge in immoral activity, if they try to uphold and defend and live in a so-called same-sex marriage situation. To permit such would be to make light of the very serious and sacred foundation of God-sanctioned marriage and its very purpose, the rearing of families" (Hinckley)

But I want to know, how do you PERSONALLY feel about homosexuals? Are you friends with any, or close to any? Has knowing someone with gay tendencies ever made you wonder whether their tendency is really a moral sin, or rather something that cannot be helped or condemned?

I just would like to have someone's perspective.

And: is there anything in the LDS canonical scriptures about homosexuality that would confirm/add to/modify what's stated in the Bible? - Thanks.
