  • How to help someone whose adult child has been sentenced to life in prison?

How to help someone cope with the loss of their child to the prison system? I have a friend whose adult child has been given a life sentence. Her Mother obviously is devastated and not sure how to begin to process this. I keep finding books for children with incarcerated parents but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a book or something to help comfort a parent who is essentially losing a child.

  • Do U.S. speed skaters train full time?

I've seen some lists online about Olympians and their regular full time jobs, I haven't noticed any speed skaters listed from the U.S. though. My husband and I were having an argument over it, do the speed skaters train full time, or do they work and train in their off time?

  • Anyone have a "permanent" retainer removed?

I've had this thing behind my bottom front 6 teeth for 13 years and I have never liked it. Lately it's really becoming cumbersome and hard to clean around. I think it's warped or something because I can't even floss around it anymore. I have a dental appointment coming up and I'm going to ask if he can take it out but I wasn't sure if anyone has had the dentist do it or if I needed to call an ortho. How do they remove them? Do they actually use something to dissolve it or just yank with pliers? I get anxiety about the dentist anyway, I'm just wondering what I'm in for :)

  • Are there some people who just can't help themselves from cheating?

Do you think it's pure selfishness or are there people who have legitimate mental issues that they can't help themselves? What kind of situations could a person have grown up in that effects them to where they can't maintain a "normal" relationship. Before anyone attacks me I'm just curious to others opinions based off of a lot of questions I see on here. Seems like there are some people who claim they love their spouses and that they are ususally happy but can't help returning others affections if they are being pursued.

  • Any ex smokers use anything over the counter for help?

A couple years ago I quit smoking for several months using Chantix prescribed by my Dr. Then I screwed up and picked up a pack while at the bar (beer and cigs...aaah my downfall :) Anyway, I would rather not do the Chantix again as it had so many negative side effects for me so I thought I would try patches, gum, or the lozenges. Anyone have any luck with these? What would you reccomend I try? Yes I know cold turkey would be the best thing, but I don't have that much faith in my will power.

  • Any Mormons out there? I have a very specific question?

My husband grew up a Latter Day Saint and his family is still very involved in the church, but since the age of 17 my husband has wanted nothing to do with the church. He quit going all together when he was 19 and moved out of his parents house, but 10 years later we still have missionaries, visiting teacher, etc still coming to my home trying to get him back to church. I don't know how they got our new address but I'd be willing to bet a weeks pay it was my MIL. Anyway, they have always told me as an outsider that they tell people how you know you belong at the church is that you read the book of Mormon then pray on it and God will tell you if it's right. Well obviously my husband doesn't think it's right for him so if that really is what they teach then why won't they leave us alone? We've told many different people who have showed up that no one in this home is interested in attending but it seems that is just code for "We'll send someone different in a couple weeks". What exactly do we need to do to get this church off our backs? I realize any religion wants people to share their testimony, but the whole thing seems very cultish to me, as an outsider. I've never met a group of people who felt so much need to never let go.

  • How to remove anodizing from metal trim on closet doors?

We bought a new house (new to us) and replaced all the gold fixtures with brushed nickel. We have these mirrored closet doors though with 3" gold trim all around. New ones are pretty expensive so we wanted to just remove the anodizing to get that bare aluminum look. We've been trying to sand it off, but it's very slow going, if anyone has any other suggestions it would be appreciated.

  • I need some help decorating Master Bedroom and I don't know where to start!?

So my Husband and I are buying a new house and we'd really like to do something special in the Master Bedroom, but I am a decorating novice. We really like earthy/natural colors, but I'm really hitting a block. I can't decide what color paint or even bedding. We do have nice maple dresser and nightstand set with marble tops that we are going to keep, but other than that I've got nothing. I would really appreciate it if someone could find me links for bedding, decorations, and maybe some paint color options. We really like browns and golds but I don't want to be too boring.

  • I need advice with my Father?

So my parents married for 32 years divorced in April. Basically all of the friendships they had were maintained by my Mother and so now my Dad is pretty much alone. My Husband and I spend time with him (I see him everyday at work) and we used to spend Saturdays over at his house or invite him to ours and usually do something another day throughout the week. My Dad is a great guy but has been going through a depression since he and my Mom split. He is taking new meds that seem to be helping but I worry about him being alone so much. He seems to want to spend everyday with my Husband and I, which would be fine except now it's hard to get things done around the house and spend time with my Husband. I suggested a support group for divorced men but he didn't seem to want much to do with that. I don't mind spending so much time with him, but how do I encourage him to get out and make friends and start doing some things for himself? He's 54 and a really fun guy, but shy and having a hard time making decisions for himself since not being with my very controlling Mom anymore. Anyone been through this or have any advice?

  • Does anyone know when Boondock Saints 2 is coming to the rest of the country?

I've seen where it's playing in a few select states but my hubby is refusing to fly to Cali from Indy to see it.

  • Is there a good website for finding local tattoo artists?

I was crazy about my last tattoo artist but he ended up moving to Vegas (I'm in Indianapolis) I would like to view different artists porfolios and peoples reviews if possible. There are a ton of shops around here though so I was hoping someone might know of online resources instead of all the pavement pounding. I've looked at the websites of some of the larger parlors but I know they are just going to show the cream of the crop stuff so I was hoping for some peer ratings. Thanks!
