English, Spanish, and Chinese. :) yeah!

  • What do you think about random acts of kindness?

I often weigh the pros and cons in my head, and to me, random acts of kindness are nice, but I can see the opposition. There are situations where a child will walk up to another one and ask if he/she wants the balloon, and the parent will snap and say something about it. While it seems to work theoretically, it doesn't work in reality. What are your thoughts? (Random acts of kindness can be anything from leaving simple notes, leaving a packet of something nice to say and have people take what they need on and day...etc)

  • Russia regime type: authoritarian or illiberal democracy?

Being in AP comparative government, I've learned that Russia has a federalist structure, but the current president is using the concept of "power vertical" which is aligning all power to him. I also studied that Russia's elections may not be as free and fair as a democracy would like it.

Is Russia an authoritarian regime because the current president is aligning all power to him, even though Russia retains a federalist structure?

Or is Russia an illiberal democracy? (because they do have elections, just not free and fair ones.)

  • IB Physics? Necessary for college?

I'm in IB Chemistry 1 this year, and it has proved to be somewhat of a struggle because the math, and math is major weak point for me. IB Physics I've heard is almost like a second math class, and I'm not sure if I'd be able to keep up with it.

I want to become a biologist when I'm older, and my teacher has mentioned that colleges do look for whether you've taken physics or not, because it involves a lot of problem solving and critical thinking. The IB coordinator at my school has said that Physics isn't something that colleges look for. and both are biased opinions, considering that my chemistry obviously wants to lean towards to science and the IB coordinator is also an english teacher.

I'm just trying to get an unbiased view. IB Physics, is it necessary for college? I'm taking up IB Biology HL for next year that being said I want to be a biologist.

  • Does the word "sunset" have a general connotation of being good or bad?

Im analyzing a poem for my English class, and it just happens to be this word I'm unsure of. I know that connotation is what you feel about, or think about it, but me, being a student photographer, it makes me say, "the sunset is beautiful, it's a wonderful end to a new beginning." whereas someone else might contradict that and say, "if the sun is setting, it's leaving." Leaving in general hasn't got a good connotation, so Im wondering what you people have to say.

Good or bad connotation? You don't need to explain, although its like icing on a cupcake for me if you do. :)

    Thanks in advanced!

  • Macro lens kit? What type?

I'm familiar with what a macro lens is, and what it does having used a macro lens on a film camera, and decided that I want to shoot digital using a macro lens- but don't have one. So I went looking around (and I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking for) and found this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Olympus-Package-Fis...

But then again, I have no idea of what specs I'm supposed to be looking for....

I'm looking to shoot close ups of water droplets on objects, or a butterfly/bird (without scaring it away). I currently have an Olympus E500 with a Zuiko 14-45mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens

If anyone could please point me in the right direction, it'd be much appreciated! My budget is $100, so nothing too expensive!

  • Photoshop elements 9 vs. 10?

I've done my research. I've talked to an adobe representative. It was enlightening experience, but they were a little evasive. I've been taught to not believe everything a marketer says...so I want to hear it from the people who use it.

What's the difference? Like big major changes you see. I know there are added effects, and the new pen tool added :D, but what else? Would you recommend it user friendly? Better than PSE 9? What about it?

Is there a difference when you just use it for simple editing? I'm being nitpicky, I know, but I want the best I can get out my hard earned money.

  • throat constricting? what's going on?

Over the past few days, I've been pulling at the collar of my sweatshirt/ shirt, thinking that it was tight, and that's why I've been feeling a little suffocated. But I know I'm just deluding myself, every time I pull at it, it's perfectly loose.

Other unusual things that have been happening: upset stomach, random stabs of pain (it feels like a knife just just stabbed in, then pulled out.), headaches that last for days (although it almost seems like a normal every day occurrence), gas pain (continuous), hair loss, weight loss (5 pounds a week), constant shivering, and unusual tiredness. I know the stress is getting to me, but I'm usually not this tired. I feel like I can collapse at any given time of a day.

I know there aren't many people that can tell me what's going on, given that I'll probably need to go see a doctor, but I want to know if anyone has suffered any one of these symptoms, and explain what they've done to help the situation. (not just tell me they went to see a doctor...tell me what kind of treatment you received) If anyone is going to tell me I need to see a doctor, I know I do, and it's not particularly helpful if you're telling me that.

  • Awkward friendship circle?

I once had a best friend...She started ditching me, and turning her back on me and my other friend since we stuck together as a trio. She started with me first, ditching, not talking to me, and so forth and then she started a rumor about my other friend her former boyfriend. I was enraged, but I didn't say anything to her. And from then on, me and my friend separated from her. I haven't had many problems when running into her...other than glaring at each other and ignoring, but now, she's in one of my classes.

And to make it worst, my class buddy is friends with this kid named *Emily. And Emily....just happens to be friends with my ex best friend....which makes things, really awkward. I don't know what to say to her, I don't want to talk to her. I don't want to apologize to her for something she made up. I don't want to have to face her. I just wanted to go run and hide....but seeing that isn't a viable solution...

I want to talk to her. I'm afraid her temper will explode at me. For not apologizing for her faults. For not talking to her several years. I've been thinking about apologizing to her, thinking about, "let's forgive and forget" but that won't go well with her, and i don't want to have to walk out with my class buddy and everyone in my class hating me, and my pride and dignity in shambles because she has higher social status than I do.

What should I do? I hate talking to her. I really do. I wish at the very least, we can be civil to each other without tearing each other's head off in class. It's only been the first week of school, I feel like I can't stand her glaring holes through my skull and purposely sabotaging my work. Not to mention, she's convincing my class buddy that I'm a total piece of dirt, and will betray my friends at any time.

My teachers describe as sweet and loyal to family and friends. I fail to see how I fit her description. Should I become friends with her again? What should I do to at least be civil with her?

  • High art photography?

I know what High Art is in photography- sort of. I know that it started around 1850 and ended in the 1870's and it was mainly in England. It was the time period where photography was considered more of a scientific thing, rather than artistic. It wasn't accepted as an art form. So the photographer copied scenes from paintings....

my question is, is high art the same exact thing as it was back then, except photographing similar scenes in paintings, we do it in movies? Like almost sorta cosplay?

Or can High Art just be a posed portrait of someone? Being staged, posed...Like a conceptual portrait.

  • is the TI-30XIIS a non-programmable scientific calculator?

A non-programmable scientific calculator is required for my supply list for chemistry. Is the TI-30XIIS one? If anyone could please tell me whether it is or isn't, a simple yes or no will suffice, it'd be a great help, and relief.

  • Photoshop elements 9 problem? Brush, eraser?

I have PSE 9 installed on both my laptop and desktop, but today I started noticing that when I clicked the eraser tool, it painted, when I used the brush tool, it erased. It was like the two had swapped, and I haven't done anything. (moved icons, etc.) Does anyone know how to revert it back to it's normal state?

This is the first time it's happened, I don't have this problem with my desktop.

  • difference in to kill a mockingbird books?

I've been assigned to read the book "to kill a mockingbird" by Harper Lee over the summer, and I need to buy a copy of the book, but when I was online looking there were two different editions. The original (?) one that was published in 1968, and another one that was published in 2005/ 2006.

Are there any differences that I should be aware of? Other than the price...

and if you've had to read this book for a class assignment, which edition did you read?

  • what are other effects of habitat loss on pandas?

I know that habitat loss is caused by the deforestation of the bamboo, specifically in China, and that the Giant pandas are dying out because of it, but what other effects does habitat loss have on the pandas, other than their population numbers declining?

  • deforestation, effect on pandas?

I know that deforestation is harmful to pandas because their main diet consists of bamboo and it is also their habitat, but I've also heard that bamboo is a very fast grower, and can easily grown...that does kind of contradict it doesn't it?

  • Something adhesive that can be removed easily?

I'm in an art show (mandatory) and it consist of submitting 6-8 pieces of art and a theme to match it. Since my theme is nature, I already of somethings handy to use for the theme.

My problem is that some of these items, are well, aren't valuable, they're within a 2-5 dollar range, but the thing is they're rather tempting to steal....from a stealer's point of view- such as fiber optic lights, and stuffed animals (like the size of a lil' kinz) and I don't want them stolen. No one wants their things stolen.

So I'm asking that if you know anything that might help stick these things to a surface (the surface is either metal, plastic) one that can prevent it from a stealer, and one that can be removed with some work after the art show. I don't want them permanently stuck!

  • Did Charles Darwin do anything significant in his later life?

I'm doing an English project, that includes a time line, and I happen to be doing Charles Darwin. I've read my book, did my research, it's just the problem is that I can't find anything Charles Darwin did after the publication of the Origin of Species in 1859, other than his failing health. so my time line looks like the other "half" of it is totally blank- which it is, except for his death date. So from 1859-1882 I have absolutely nothing. Did he do anything significant, and what was it that he did?

To those of you who think that I'm asking you to do my project I'm not. I didn't ask for a straight answer (although it would be appreciated), just a link to show me where the answer is so I can find it.

  • I phone vs. Droid which one would you choose?

I've been waiting and wanting a new phone ever since I got my LG shine why? because it sucks, especially with texting. I got an i pod touch during Christmas last year, and then it accidentally got put in the washer. Which unfortunately broke it completely. I got a new i pod and since I had a back-up copy I just synced it, and there, I had everything again. :) okay but I was wondering... If I get the i phone, will I be able to sync all my apps back on including game levels? I was able to do that with my i touch, but I'm not sure about the i phone...

now the droid... I heard a lot about it last year, but I still can't find that much of a difference other than appearance, and carrier. If I choose to get the droid, is all my app information lost?

Which would you choose and why?
