How can Christians say there is "Free Will", but also say there is a reason for everything?
If there is a reason for everything, there must be a controlling force that manipulates everything.
Say you play the lottery and win, and you say "there's a reason for that". That means that somehow the printing of tickets, time you purchased it, drawing of balls, etc was all controlled. Everything that made that happen was controlled, all the way back to the beginning of time.
If there is a reason for everything, there can be no free will. If there is free will, there can't be a reason for everything.
How can you explain this?
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAre American Christians the laughing stock of the world?
37 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo people actually believe all things in the universe & on earth occurred by some magical super-god?
For some "god" to have created everything takes an enormous leap of faith, so much that it becomes impossible to believe it. While it seems possible to eventually explain the universe in terms of natural laws, it seems impossible to explain how a god could exist that would have the power to have created everything. How can people believe "god did it"?
30 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs killing children a true expression of god's perfect love for us?
I rejoice in his perfect love, these kids deserved it don't you think?
From The Holy Bible, 2 Kings 2:23-24:
"And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them"
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy does god over-react when things don't go his way?
Examples:
1. Two people disobey god, so god punishes them and all of their children for untold thousands of years (Adam and Eve)
2. Some people in one part of the world are being bad, so god drowns the entire earth, killing innocent babies, children, and animals (Noah)
3. Pharaoh won't let Moses' people go, so god passes through egypt personally killing the first born male of all the egyptians from the lowest servant to pharaoh's own son, including their livestock (passover).
Is god a little extreme, and the greatest mass-murderer in history?
Or is it more plausible that he just doesn't exist?
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do you say that god cannot lie?
I thought he could do anything he wants to do.
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs the concept of "god" becoming more and more ridiculous?
39 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoYou make a claim that there is an invisible "spirit" (soul) living inside you. Can you provide proof?
How can you claim there is an invisible spirit (soul) living inside you if you have no evidence? In fact, it seems that scientific evidence would not support this idea:
"People naturally believe in the Ghost in the Machine: that we have bodies made of matter and spirits made of an ethereal something. Yes, people acknowledge that the brain is involved in mental life. But they still think of it as a pocket PC for the soul, managing information at the behest of a ghostly user.
Modern neuroscience has shown that there is no user. "The soul" is, in fact, the information-processing activity of the brain."
30 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoScience has proven there is no such thing as a "soul". Why do you still believe there is one?
Every thought and emotion you have is controlled by your brain. There is no separate entity or "spirit" inhabiting your body. Why do you still believe there is, when it has been proven there is not?
50 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy has the "second coming" not occurred yet?
MAT 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
MAR 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
LUK 21:32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
40 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoPlease explain why this is not a bible contradiction?
JOH 10:30 I and my Father are one.
JOH 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
How can Jesus and his Father be one, but somehow the Father is greater?
26 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy did god punish the animals?
Genesis 1:28-29 shows that man and all the animals were first created herbivorous. Most young-earth Christians (ones that believes the earth is less than 10,000 years old) say that the fall of man resulted in carnivorous animals ( hence death of animals). So, why did God punish the animal kingdom, making animals kill and devour each other because of man's mistake? Or, if you're an old-earth Christian (one that accepts that animals existed on earth for billions of years before man came on the scene) then how come fossils show carnivorous animals existed before man?
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWho else knows god is imaginary?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf god loves all children, why does he kill them?
"Obeying God's will, Moses returned to Egypt and ordered the pharaoh, Ramses II, to "let my people go!" The pharaoh refused, so God unleashed 10 plagues on the Egyptians. The 10th was the killing of the firstborn in every home. The Israelite homes were passed over (which is the origin of the Jewish Passover celebration)."
What did those poor children ever do to god? Why punish one guy (pharaoh) by killing so many innocents? If god is unchanging, will he kill again?
38 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs macro-evolution the final nail in god's casket?
My understanding is that micro-evolution is ok by believers, because it still leaves the possibility of god creating adam and eve and all the animals . Once macro-evolution is proven, won't that finally show that god didn't create everything at once, and basically destroy the god of the bible? Is that why believers are so frightened of evolution?

Happy? Sad? Don't care?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes god condemn over 83,000 souls per day to hell?
About 250,000 people die in the world each day. 33% of the world's population are Christian (or so they claim). Assuming all non-christians go to hell, that's 83,000 per day. If we figure some of those Christians messed up, the number could be as high as 100,000 per day. That's 36,500,000 people in hell each year.
What's that part about a loving god again?
