Sold a broken laptop?
I have done business with a pawn shop down the street a few times...sold and bought some stuff no problems. Last time I was in, I wanted to sell my laptop which I bought originally off a buddy for $200. It started overheating and eventually shut itself off after about 20 mins because the fan was broke. I went to this pawn shop, offered it to them but didnt tell the guy about the fan. He offered me $40 which I took. So now I'm worries if I go back there to buy a new Xbox 360(they are cheapest) they always ask for ID and have a record of all business you did with them before. If I go back and wish to purchase something, will they care if it says I sold them a laptop with a broken fan? Can I get in trouble or will they just refuse my business? Technically they did inspect the laptop for 5 mins before they bought it and it was in working order when they did hence hy try accepted it. So could I just say "it didnt overheat for me..." If they bring it up because they have no real proof I sold it to them that way. Just curious. I want to keep buying from them. Help?
5 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoHow much will cleaning cost at the dentist?
One of my bottom teeth was bothering me because of a small tartar build up that was scraping along my tongue. I tried this dentist here in the mall where I work. For a checkup it was $300 for x-rays and diagnosis. My insurance from work takes care of 80% of the cost so I only paid $60. They said a cleaning would get help remove the tartar and smooth it out for me. It has been 4 years since my last trip to the dentist and in that time I have brushed twice a day, every day but not flossing...I have no pain in my jaw and my wisdom teeth have grown in without pain. The doctor said I have gum disease because they are sensitive and bled when they used the metal scraper. He also said all my wisdom teeth have cavities and have to be removed and one of my molars needs to be pulled for some reason...THAT'S 5 TEETH that don't even hurt!? He also said I need 3 filling and a root canal done. My insurance cover 80% but a cap of $1000...so I'll have to get all that other stuff done later in the year and next year. They said because my mouth may as well have leprosy, its in such bad shape, they need to freeze my jaw so it's not painful...they said a cleaning with my insurance would cost me $44 out of pocket($250 actual cost) but I don't know if that will cover the freezing too? Is that more expensive? I only have $60 in my account and I NEED this done...help?
1 AnswerDental8 years agoShould I erase all data off my iphone4?
I'm going into the apple store today to trade in my broken iPhone for a newly refurbished one. Apparently all I have to do I backup my files with iCloud and then I can use that to save all my apps and pics and stuff for the new phone. I will have to turn over my phone now, but do I delete eerything first? I know they will delete it, eventually when they repair it, but I would rather do that myself before I hand it over lol. There's nothing bad on there or anything but some stuff was my Paypal and bank info and passwords and stuff so I don't want them to be able to see it but I also don't want to delete everything and then have them inform me that it shouldn't have or iCloud didn't work properly or something :/ should I delete now or let them?
1 AnswerPDAs & Handhelds8 years agoQuestions about Adam Lanza?
I actually have 2 questions about this guy....what happens funeral wise? Obviously his mother and the shooter are responsible for the shootings in Connecticut....but would this hinder a funeral and proper burial for them? I mean there's no way this guy and maybe his mother could have public gravestones that wouldn't go unvandilized and would they have seperate funeral services on account that one murdered the other? Or would they even have a service at all? I mean what clergymen would give a eulogy on someone like that and who would show to mourn these people?
I've always wondered about that with killers who die....my second question is, what if this guy had not killed himself and was caught? James Holmes gave himself up peacefully so he was tried and given rights and is still being tossed around in the judicial system because, of course his attorney used the insanity claim. I understand that it was a dark theatre and he had no clue who he was shooting, and he did kill a little girl, and almost a baby but in all fairness, they shouldn't have even been there(it was midnight and a movie not for young children) so you could give him the benefit of the doubt on that one...and 12 victims in a state where this sort of thing happens(columbine). So I can see how he could be defended, and tried as insane, but what really gets me is what lawyer in their right mind would defend this Lanza guy?
He broke into a school where he knew the only people who would be there is teachers and young children doing school stuff and he pulled the trigger on as many as he could. They were his target. And this was after murdering his mother in her bed. This is 26 people and 20 young children we are talking about here murdered by a grown man. What human being(their job or level of neutrality and professionalism aside) could honestly live with themselves protecting the rights of this guy? The president himself balled his eyes out even talking about this twice. What judge could maintain a level of civility against something like this? Yet that is exactly what would have I happen but I don't think it could.
He would get clothed, and fed and treated with respect and dignity and fairness but who can honestly say if this guy was still alive he would be thrown around just like James Holmes. Still breathing, still comfortable, still treated with compassion, still able to smile, and laugh and speak and be heard and live. The guard who has to shackle him, the judge who has to prosecute him, the attorney who has to defend his rights and the medic who has to treat him. Do these people exist? If you had one of these jobs could you honestly carry it out professionally whilst all the while thinking that this rat ******* deserves only to be hung from the highest tree? I wonder about these things and I'd like some other perspectives on it. Thanks!
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoWill they charge me at the apple store?
So I have an iPhone 4 and the lock button broke on it and now the home button is starting to go...it is still in its first year of purchase, so apparently I can go in and they will give me a new one? Or will I have I pay to get it fixed? If so how much? How long of a wait would it be, because its a 40 minute drive to the apple store and rides are limited so I would have to get it done all same day...

But I know of I just delete everything apparently it can all be recovered...I don't have a disc for windows 7 and I wanna make sure they can't recover any of my stuff but I need it done tonight and I have an hour to do it. 2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoCan I get a credit card after paying a settlement?
So after not paying my credit card debt off, with TD visa for 156 days, a collection agency calls me. My debt was $890 by they said they would take $750 as a one time payment as a settlement. I said no. They made it so i put down $200 and I get a month to make a $600 payment to finish the debt. I paid, it's done. I am with a new bank(RBC) and they offer me credit cards all the time. I'm more financially set right now so im able to pay off a new credit card. I asked them before if they could give me a card with ba credit, and they said yes but not if my current debt was with collections. Now my concern is if they will limit it to like $300 use or I have to pay to use it(per-pay only) if the previous debt is removed, will this hinder my abillity to get a card with a decent limit? Does this apply with just the bank or presidents choice credit cards too or whatever? Help?
2 AnswersCredit9 years agoDebt collectors called me....what do I do?
So I've put off paying my credit debt with TD Canada trust visa. On my 18th birthday, they put a piece of paper in front of my face and told me if I apply for a TD visa green card it would have $1000 I can use and only have to pay $30/month. Being a stupid kid I signed and spent that in about 5 months...I paid the card off till it was down to about $400 over the course of a year. Then I racked it up again. By the time I was 20 it was sitting at about $1117 with the interest. I had missed payments so I didnt really care about having good credit(I didnt plan on financing anything in the future, and still dont want to). Anyways I paid it down to about $700 and the card expired. I closed my bank account with TD and ignored them till it makin any payments till around my 22nd b-day. I went and made a $150 payment with some extra tax money I got to try and get it back down. I then made another $100 payment 156 days ago and none since so TD gave it to collections debt Ontario or something. 150 days ago I moved out of my folks house and now I live on my own with my gf. Since then, collections had been calling my parents(they won't tell them why). So I told them its cause I owe money on my card. My parents keep telling them I don't live there and yet when they do that, they just give my dad a number for me I call them. I don't call in that time. Today my dad gave themmy number and they called me and said I owe then $850 as a one time payment. I said I was working but I couldn't pay that....the guy said he can stretch it to two payments of $400 over 2 months...I said that's still too much and then he asked how much I could pay by this Friday. I said $200 and he said he would bring that to his manager and he would work something out where I could have a month to make a one time payment of like $550 or something and the debt would be settled. I will have to borrow $200 from my gf to do that and live off of pb&j for a month to do that tho. I asked I there's any way I can just pay 300/month over the next 2 months with $200 down this Friday. He said no. They would send the cost back to the bank at which point the bank would take "legal action". I can't get another credit card and the most I can probably get help from my gf is $200...what should I do? What are my options? Help?

6 AnswersImmigration9 years agoWhy is James Holmes being treated with respect and dignity?
I understand tht we live in a civilized society where every criminal should get a fair trial and be found guilty by a jury of his peers and sentenced accordingly but I keep seeing people like James Holmes and luka magnota treated like human beings? They aren't retarded and know exactly who they are and what they did. I mean i can understand if a guy gets angry and shoots another guy and beats his wife or something and get sentenced to life or death penalty...they might feel sorry and show remorse, in which case, they deserve a fair trial and to be clothed and fed properly and unharmed. But I mean these are people who massacre, cannibalize and mass murder children and keep a smile on their face. Insane, or not, there is no more remnants of a human being anymore...so why do they get handled with care, even after they have been tied? The worst thing that will happen to this guy is the death penalty which is nothing. Everybody dies, it's not a punishment. And lethal injection is painless. If a person is guilty, admits they are guilty with witness and proof, then why keep them warm, fed and talk to them like a person? I mean if they tortured these guys, who would complain? They wouldn't be protesting in the streets, there would be no revolt or backlash, nobody ore barely anybody would object and if they did it would be meaningless and appear unjust to the rest of society. So what besides a written rule prevents us from treating these "things" as people? I'm not saying this should be implemented but I just don't understand why they can't give these criminals their just dessert? I hear on the news "he might get the death penalty" and think automatically "big whoop?". I mean you get in trouble for even spitting at these guys....wtf. So why are these abominations kept comfortable even though they are scum and admit it. Correct me I I'm wron but if you watch the video of James on trial, his lawyer looks like she doesn't want to be there by his side, I can't imagine who would and she will probably end up regretting it forever, if not by her own conscience, than from other people going after her....it's sad. So why do we do it this way? Just wondering.
4 AnswersSociology9 years agoWhich car would be better to buy?
I've been looking for a car on a $600 budget. There are 2 candidates so far. A 1999 gmc jimmy with 300,000 km on it....or a 1999 ford escort lx with 163,000 km on it. I have drove both of these cars before as friends have owned them. The jimmy is $600 and the escort is $500. Only problem is that the escort is a manual transmission and I don't know how to drive stick shift and it has minor muffler repairs needed($50 repair). The guy selling it to me offered to teach me and I have buddies who drive stick to practice too. The jimmy was better maintained but even if well maintained I hear they don't have much more life in them after 300,000 km and are more expensive to repair....whih one should I take?
5 AnswersBuying & Selling9 years agoPokerstars echeck deposit declined...wtf?
I tried emailing dad@pokerstars and it said to stay logged in and they would connect me with a "live agent" to help...Been logged in for 25 mins and nothing after i sent the email......Why would it be declined? There's cash in my account and my account information is correct but it says "your request for a deposit via echeck has been declined and any attempt to deposit will be declined in the future" It also declined my Visa card. It's a TD canada trust visa card which was declined because apparently that bank refuses to support online gambling deposits. Im trying to use an echeck using my RBC account but it's declined after 4 attempts....
2 AnswersPersonal Finance9 years agoAre two-way radios subject to FCC penalty?
So pretty much when I was younger I bought a pair of two-way radios so I could talk to my buddy who lived down the street because we couldn't afford cell phone plans...and what I found was that sometimes if we were on a certain channel, there would be like some shipping dock coordinator reading off numbers and codes and such or just saying arrival and departure times or whatever. So I thought it would be funny to pretend to be the boss's voice and tell the person he was talking to go or break or go get coffee and such...it was pretty much just a primitive form of trolling because the two would argue over the radio and "rage" until they actually deduced that it was a 3rd party....funny stuff indeed. But anyways recently my buddy who is a trucker got in trouble from his company because he was talkin to another trucker and there was a country song on the radio that he knew the other guy liked so he played about 10 seconds of it over the channel and nobody over the channel complained or anything but apparently stuff like that violates FCC rules and I asked him how they would know it was him? He said that your radio acts like a transmitter and hey can pinpoint our location and it's a few thousand dollar fine/jail time for misuse of a radio. So my question is, is this just for cb radios or two-ways as well? I live in Ontario so is that out o FCC jurisdiction? I also live in an apartment so even if they got my geographic location, would they know which unit I was in? My apt is pretty much sound proof so no neighbors would be aware. Just wondering these things cause I found the radios when I was cleaning and I thought I would have a laugh...
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoWhat parts are worth the most?
So I have a 1994 Chrysler LHS that I've decided to part out. I've got a scrap company who is going to tow it away in 2 days and give me $350 to take it.the car was running fine a few weeks ago but recently there was a problem with the electrical system and it won't start. I'm not paying anymore cash to keep it on the road...and bills are getting high so I need cash from this thing. Its stuck in park because the shifter needs power to run and nothin in the car will work electrically so I need to take what parts I can from it before the tow gets here. I don't have a lot of tools...I have a basic car jack, some ratchets, screwdrivers, tire iron, hammer and a hacksaw and a buddy to help me. The car needs to be able to get towed and I don't want to take so much that the scrap guy feels there is no more value in it. Right now I plan on taking out the battery(only 4 months old was brand new when I bought it), a brand new $160 Michelin tire on a 16" aluminum rim(putting the spare tire on in it's place), and taking the cars stereo/cd player out that came with it...how muh could I get back on those 3 things? What else am I able to take off myself with my buddy with basic non-power tools and should I sell them to a scrap yard or on kijiji? How much will I get? Any info would help. Thanks
1 AnswerBuying & Selling9 years agoCan my work do this??????legal?
I work in a call center in Ontario. In the past 6 months, an American company called NCO corporation has taken over....They have made a lot of changes for the worst and taken a lot away that the other company who ran the call center gave us. It's unfair but people need this job like myself. This company is in partner with SunLife financial insurance company and what thy have done now is make employee insurance benefits mandatory for all full time workers. Meaning that we needed to sign a form saying they can take $45 PER PAYHECK, off of our pay. That's $90 a month. We all thought this would just be implemented for any new employees being hired after NCO took over but it turns out that this is now a "condition of employment" and if you do not consent to the company policy you can "find another job" the benefits aren't even useful. Most of it is for prescription medication and dental discounts but I don't use either of those anyways. They say the only way for them not to deduct it is if you can prove you have coverage for the same benefits with another provider. Basically I don't want to pay for any insurance benefits at all, they used to be optional. Can they do this?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoCar is stuck in park.?
So the power in my car is completely gone and ita stuck in park because the shifter will only work electronically. I'm sellin it to a car place for $500 and they want to pick it up. But it's in the bak parking lot of my apartment. They could maybe get a regular towtruck in there but not a flat bed or anything. So my question is how will they tow it if it can't go into neutral? I really want it goner but I don't know how they plan to do this? Any ideas? The car is a 1994 Chrysler LHS btw front wheel drive
2 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation9 years agoWhat kind of battery terminal will I need for my car?
I have 1994 Chrysler LHS and I'm having a problem with the battery terminals. The one on the black wire that connects to the battery is ok but the red wire one that also connects to the battery has a lot of corrosion and it's really loose...basically power isn't going to the car AT ALL. So I was advised that replacing the terminal that connects the red wire to the battery would probably help. The starter is fine, the alternator is ok and yes, the battery is fully charged. Apparently I can pick these up in the automotive department for cheap but I don't know what kind to get or even if they are different for every car or specific...oh and before you ask I also checked all the fuses too
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoWhat might be wrong with my car?
I thought it was a simple dead battery because I might have left the lights on over night....I started the car and I noticed that it went "chug chug chug" a few times before it turned over and started up....I had the car running for about 20 mins before I shut it off for 5 mins...I started it up again and the "chug chug chug" noise lasted twice as long and I had to turn the key about 3 times before it turned over and started. I drove it for about 2 mins and shut it off for another 2 mins. This time when I tried to start it it made the clicking "chug" noise but no turn over after 2 tries I gave it a little gas but to no avail. I let it sit for another 2 mins and then tried again no gas this time. It made the same chug clicking noise but then I saw smoke coming from under the hood near where the battery is located and just before I stopped turning the key, the dashboard light went of and the whole thing died. The car was in park and I had my window down all the way. My buddy took a look and offered to give it a boost. We hooked up the jumper cables(correctly before you assume it was done wrong) and when I tried starting the engine my battery sparked like mad and then I stopped turning the key. The dashboard light still wouldn't come on and I couldn't even get the power nessecary to roll up the window or put the car in neutral...it was also affecting his battery gauge. We looked at my battery and everything was super hot. So now I got a car stuck in park with the window rolled down(I got taped up now because it's power window) that I can't get to a mechanic. Is it just the starter? Does this sound like a problem with the alternator maybe? Any info on what to do would help. Please no negative comments about how my actions were idiotic or how I wrecked my car, I've only been driving a year and I don't know too much about mechanics or engines, hence why I'm asking. Thanks!
Car is a 1994 Chrysler LHS by the way.
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoHow much could I get for my car?
I have a 1994 Chrysler LHS. It's got 250,000km on it. It has fwd power steering, power windows and power seats. I just spent $600 getting new struts replaced on it and new Michelin tires that cost $100 each on 17" fully aluminum stock rims. Everything works, cruise control, radio, cd player, traction control, air conditioning/heater all work. It's got a 3.5L V6 engine with 220hp. It drives amazingly and is comfortable and is spacious. It's like a living room on wheels but it's sleek like a sports model. Anyways all those feature aside I've had to make numerous repairs on it....the struts broke so I replaced those, the old tires popped, I replaced the catylitic converter and now today something went wrong with the electrical system. The car was having problems starting up this morning but I thought i had left the lights on last night by accident or something. I also bought a new battery too do I didnt think it we dead but just weak. Then I get home after driving a bit today and I figured the alternator would get it charged up. I started it again and this time, smoke came from the hood where the battery is then the dashboard wouldnt light up I couldn't turn on the lights or work the window ls or anything. I got my buddy to check it out and he said it looked like the starter was fried and all the wires near the battery were super hot...the power locks still work and I can pop the trunk remotely but nothing else will work...we tried givin it a boost but sparks flew up when I turned the key and it almost damaged his car...so something is seriously wrong. He said i it's the starter and alternator it would be a $300 repair and honesty I've put so much into this thing already. I dot really need a car as I don't drive anywhere too often, but I do new as much cash as I can get out of this thing. So should I sell it as is? Or part it out? Or just scrap it and get $400 from the junk yard? What would be the most I can possibly expect and which option is best? Remember I can't fix it and I really need as much money possible for it! Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
