What are some good "non-money" mathematics careers?
Well a little more detail...I'm majoring in mathematics but I'm not entirely sure what my career goal is. I have heard about some good jobs for mathematicians involving finances and business, but I utterly lack interest in those things. Maybe at some point I'll do something like that but I don't want to focus on that now. I still have time to go for a minor if there are any out there that go good with a math degree. A math degree seems like something with a variety of potential, but nothing too specific. For that reason I'd like to have a goal in mind.
If it matters the things that I value are math for the sake of math, skepticism, education, and efficiency / quality of life...if that's not too vague.
As far as jobs go...pay, spare time, and to a lesser extent solitude.
Well yeah I'll definitely look into this question a lot but if anyone knows a bit about math careers I'd love to hear some options and the like. Not trying to find "it" right now...just trying to expand my knowledge about some of the options.
Thanks in advance.
5 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoIs this possible??????????
I'm a university student majoring in mathematics and I'm my second year in and getting solid grades. My friends and I got together and took an IQ test online for kicks to see who would get the highest score. Well one got 112 and the other 128. I got 83. I was a bit confused and skeptical so I took a couple others but I basically got around the same kind of score. I know online IQ tests aren't the greatest but still...is this possible?
4 AnswersStandards & Testing1 decade agoDo you ever scan over other people's answers?
Sometimes before I respond to something I scan over the person's answers and history to see what kind of a person they are, what their thoughts are on various things, and of course whether they are a troll or not.
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat are the well-known grindcore bands?
A friend of mine and I are making a list of different genres of metal (and including punk and hardcore among a few others) with the prominent and interesting bands for each genre listed under alongside a sample song. The thing is I just never really learned much about grindcore and I just want you to answer these two questions:
1. What is your favorite grindcore band?
2. What are some grindcore bands that I should include?
Also these are some that I plan to put on currently...
Napalm Death
Nasum
Marylin Manson
Just kidding about the last one. I'm listening to their CD right now because a friend sent me a bunch of CDs. Some good stuff in here and he burned me copies of Slayer's entire discography. C'mon lighten up, the shock will go away with time...everything will be okay.
6 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade ago---How can I be happy?
First I would like to note that I'm not depressed or if I am it is certainly minor. It's just in my life I don't really ever experience happiness. To me happiness is feeling good simply for existing. I have achieved this feeling but only ever momentarily and rarely. How can I feel good just existing? Should I exercise more or I don't know...any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.
7 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoEase my suspicion...will I have to live again after I die?
This is not a religious question. It is just something that bugs me a little bit. One of my only wishes in life is that when I die I get to be dead forever.
Now I don't believe this to be so and I don't base my worrying about this on anything logical really...it is just a suspicion. Assume there is a huge story X about how I came to be. This story X includes how the universe came to be etc. etc. Will it happen again? Why or why not? Is it only a one time thing? Why?
Assuming (this is very apparent to me but I know not everyone agrees) that consciousness is the result of brain activity, which basically breaks down to the abstract...are there any reasons you can come up with that the same brain activity will never occur again after I die? In other words, that the story X is just a one time thing.
Anyways this is just a suspicion that bugs me a little. I've thought about different things like the heat death, and while that helps some, I don't see it as a guarantee that I won't be again.
Now I know I haven't said much here and my thoughts on the matter do run a lot deeper than can be worded here. All I'm looking for is if anyone has something to say that may have never occurred to me.
8 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade ago[Masturbation / Injury] What should I do?
A little over a week ago I woke up with a very full bladder and a morning erection and went to the bathroom. It was physically exhausting and the urine came out with such force that I had to stop a few times and I ended up injuring the tube a little bit. A couple days later I masturbated not being very aware of the injury and its nature and it hurt quite a bit and damaged it more. After a few days it started to heal but then somehow I reinjured it. I started taking some Aleve (2 a day) to keep the inflammation down so it can better heal and it seems to be doing a decent job. The problem is it has been like a week or more of no masturbation and as best I try it is becoming very difficult to not get an erection and not have the urge to masturbate. It becomes difficult to sleep. Simple things like sitting down on the toilet prompt an erection. But I'm afraid to masturbate because I'm almost positive it'll screw it up possibly even more than it was originally. At the same time my stomach hurts from how badly I want to masturbate and I am becoming omnisexual. I'm straight and just the thought of gay porn makes me get an erection. Normally I'm actually incredibly under-sexual!
Anyways what should I do? I'm afraid if I have an ejaculation now it's going to be even more strenuous than normal because I haven't had one for so long. I don't know I just need any good advice I can get.
1 AnswerMen's Health1 decade ago(For metal...) What is the most intense...?
I listen to metal primarily for the intensity. Yes, I'm going to do a little talk here. I just don't want love, happiness, or sexuality in my music. Yes I am a sad person.
So just tell me what the most intense band you know of for each of these categories is. You can mix it up and do combo attacks if you wish. Oh and it is doubtful you'll have anything to say more intense than the things that I know of so the person with the best answers gets...best answer!
Here are the categories...
Heavy
Angery
Hate
Sad
Depressive
Beautiful
Other-Worldly
Dark
Evil
Emotional
Raw
Empty
Any others you can think of and lastly...
OVERALL most intense band.
I know you probably won't have an answer for all of these random categories but whichever one's ring a bell go ahead and say it.
I'll actively scan and comment! And don't worry; I'm nice.
9 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoHow can I relieve sexual tension without masturbating?
Please read this because it will help you in your answer. I woke up one morning with a very full bladder and an erection and went to the bathroom to urinate. This caused a rupture of some sort in my tube and it's a little swollen on the inside. I masturbated a couple days after but it was a mistake because it hurt at the spot and I believe it made it worse. Well it is beginning to become difficult to keep my mind off sexual things and no it is not fun to be sexually tense without being able to masturbate. Any advice?
