How are Army Reservists in the UK deployed?
I have heard people call them "weekend soldiers", but assume that s not literal as it seems ridiculous to deploy people late on a Friday and take them back late on a Sunday.
In that case, how long are reservists deployed for? I know the army website says it s only if absolutely necessary, but could it be, say, for 6 months and then you go back to your regular job? Could it be longer? Is it the same for all roles, even those based in the UK?
p.s. I know that keeping training up-to-date is one weekend a month and all about that. I m just asking about actual deployment.
Any info about Navy and RAF reserves also welcome.
1 AnswerMilitary4 years agoIf jus bellum iustum is Latin for "just war theory", what would "just business theory" be?
I know it s a strange question and won t necessarily correlate in the translations, but I do have my reasons.

1 AnswerMathematics5 years agoSixth Form Teacher Present?
I have suggested to a few friends a plan to get our really hard-working head of year a present before the Christmas break.
She does a lot for us: She teaches Geography A-level and ks2/3 geography, she runs the EPQ at our sixth form every year, she helps people with personal statements and she does most of our UCAS references. She spends most of her time on us, so we're going to get her something.
We would all probably commit £2-5, so we could possibly get over £100 pounds (assuming not everyone commits, which will be likely).
We need some ideas? something significant and within our price range. Any help would be awesome!
P.s. she used to love that Pan Am tv show, but it's not necessary for an idea to be based around that...
4 AnswersTeaching9 years agoBottom-Up Charities in Africa?
Hi! I could be getting a job soon. I am just a student, so I would be working 9 hours a week.
I am looking to donate to a charity in Africa that works on a bottom-up basis, so the money doesn't get taken by corrupt dictatorships. I would be donating 1 hours pay a week, which would end up at £24 a month.
Any ideas for good charities that fit my criteria?
1 AnswerOther - Society & Culture9 years agoWho can do References? Referee? etc?
Could someone that does not know you that well or has not worked with you do a reference for you? or be your referee for a job application?
For example I will be applying to the Surrey Special Constabulary soon and I was thinking whether it would be appropriate to get my former Met Police Sergeant uncle to do me a reference. How about a friend's dad as well? I have only seen the friend's dad a few times and not spoken to my uncle much in years (he lives a fair bit away...)
So do you think it is a possibility?
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment9 years agoHistory and Politics BA degree with... other subject?
Hi. Yesterday I asked a question on whether doing a language as part of a degree course would allow me to put the language in the name of the degree (on my CV).
But I'd like to know if you can exchange credits on your course for something other than a language? Say if I did a History and Politics degree and substituted in a bit of Sociology (to help my chances of getting on a criminology postgraduate degree).
P.S. I am not doing a Sociology degree because I'd rather History, because it has more analytical and transferable skills. And politics for a similar reason.
Thanks...
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoLanguage with degree?
After visiting Queen Mary University today, I found out that you can do a certain amount of credits on things outside your chosen subject area. For example a language (although not exclusively).
But working under the premise of it being a language I do with my degree. Say a History BA with Russian. Is that how I would write it? History with Russian
Or would it still just be a History BA and then I don't get to put the Russian in the actual name of the degree?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)9 years agoBooks of Documentaries?
Why do some documentaries have books of the same documentary?
Like World at War. There is a book of the documentary. Is it the same stuff? Is it that it has additional info?
I am just considering why I should get the book of a documentary I already have.
1 AnswerBooks & Authors9 years agoTax on website subscription/membership? also on commission?
Hi, I have a UK tax question.
Say for example I set up a website for gamers where you can subscribe and have full access to the site and can watch competitions happening live and also watch re-runs and do some other stuff (I'll have other cool features, but you get what I mean essentially...)
Would I need to pay tax on this? Or is it that I would have to pay tax if revenue got to a certain figure?
Also is commission for running a competition taxable?
And do I need to register as a business for both of these things? I.e. Gamerz Ltd or something (name wouldn't be that obvious in RL ofc :D )
I don't hate taxes btw, I just would like to know. Thanks...
1 AnswerUnited Kingdom9 years agoList of Naturalistic Films?
I enjoy a lot of very naturalistic films such as Children of Men, Dead Man's Shoes and The Blair Witch Project. But they are so hard to find.
Does anyone know of a list of good naturalistic films or directors that usually focus on naturalism, in both acting and filming style.
Much obliged.
2 AnswersMovies9 years agoCV - what should the order of work be?
I am a student, so many things I put on the work experience section of my CV overlaps (through volunteering, work experience placements, part-time work, etc).
I know to order them by date I did them. But should that be by the time I started them, or when I finish them.
For example:
Work A (Jan 2012-present)
Work B (April 2012)
That order, or other way around? would you say?
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment9 years agohow much is a 1952 copy of Gulliver's Travels worth?
I am in possession of a 1952 copy (60 years old) of the first edit of Gulliver's Travels. It is the edit, the author Jonathan Swift commented as being 'more complete than the original'.
My copy is undamaged on the exterior. There is light and insignificant writing on the inside. Just the two names and addresses (now former addresses) of the two people who have owned it.
How much would this be worth now?
3 AnswersBooks & Authors9 years agoI need to make £1000-2000 in about 5 months... any tips?
I need some ideas on how to make £1000-2000 in about 5 months time for a 2 week-to-month overseas work experience placement to help by CV in preparation for applying to university (the specifics of that aren't very important).
I am a Sixth Form student with good GCSE grades, a good writing skills and a wide range of knowledge. However, I need advice on the best way that I can accumulate this much money in a little less than half a year.
Short of getting a job, because there are none where I live, any ideas on what I could do? As many examples as possible would be good.
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment9 years agoNokia N8 or N9, which one should I buy?
I was considering getting the a new phone (my current one is 5 years old). I love Nokia.
I get a phone for games, camera, video and apps.
The Nokia N8 came before the N9, yet seems to have a 12 Mega pixel camera, whereas the N9 only has an 8 Mega pixel camera (I say only carefully, as that is still very good for a phone camera, I believe).
Now, I presume the price of the N8 will drop when the N9 comes out.
Can anybody, who knows a lot about these two phones, recommend whether getting the N9 is worth it, or whether the N8 is a suitable phone for my needs? (mentioned above; games, camera, video and apps).
