I like helping people, it's just automatically compulsive for me. I enjoy answering people's questions and perhaps injecting a little wisdom that I've picked up the hard way. • Connecting two ethernet cables into one computer?

Here is what I want to do:

I have a new computer. I'd like to use my old computer as a render farm for Autodesk Maya 2008. I only have one ethernet port on the new computer. I can hook up the two computers using an ethernet crossover cable. I tried it out and it works. However, there's not another ethernet port, so I can't have internet while the two computers are hooked together. It's also a pain to hook and unhook the cable because of the computers' location.

Is there a way to hook the old computer via crossover cable and my internet ethernet cable into my new machine? I know they have LAN switches, but I don't know if this would work or if it is what I would need? If a LAN switch would work, is there anything special I'd have to do to get it to recognize both networks (i.e. the router network, and the local network)?

  • Can you help me locate a certain statue of the Virgin Mary in Venice, Italy?

A few years ago some family of mine went to Venice. While there they saw a statue (or it might have been a haut-relief as it was on the corner of a building) of the Virgin Mary. She was holding the baby Jesus in her arms and she was stomping on the antichrist, represented as another infant. We haven't really ever seen another statue like it anywhere else, and it was interesting. They wanted to see it again and take a picture of it, but the problem is they don't remember where they saw it. Do you know what street or campo this statue is on? Ten points to the first one who can tell me where to find this statue.

  • How to fix leaking Samsung WF220ANW washing machine?

We have a Samsung WF220ANW model washing machine. It is a front loader, a year and a half old, and it is leaking out the bottom left corner. The filter is near there, but it is not leaking from the filter and we have cleaned the filter. There is a square hole in the metal base/bottom of the washing machine just behind the front left leg, and water drips out of it (from inside the machine) while the washer is filling or while it is emptying, but not *always*. We did a pure cycle clean and it leaked at the very end, but not while it was filling. Then I washed a load of clothes on regular and it leaked as it was filling up the initial time but not when it was rinsing or at the end. This makes no sense to me, but if you're savvy about washing machines, maybe you've seen this before.

What could it be? Is there a way we could fix it ourselves, or a repair guide online somewhere? Any advice would be helpful. I'm trying to avoid calling a repairman unless it's absolutely necessary.

    Thanks!

  • What is the name of the painting where a lion has an infant in it's jaws?

I know there is a painting, it may be from the Renaissance, and also could be a scene from a much larger painting (I'm not sure), where a lion has an infant dangling upside down in it's jaws. The mother is standing opposite, her breast hanging out, watching in horror and is waving her arms in the air. The setting of the painting is a street in a town, I think there may be buildings in the background.

10 points to anyone who can tell me the artist or the name of the painting.

  • Where is the auxiliary jack on a 2011 mazda 3?

My Tribute is in the shop for repairs, and they gave me a 2011 Mazda 3 as a loaner. It's got an "Aux" button, but it doesn't seem to do anything when pressed and I don't see where to plug in my mp3 player. Do some of them have an Aux button but no jack? If not, where is the jack? 10 points for best, quick answer :)

    Thanks!

  • What's the difference between Éstas and Estas?

I recently started studying Spanish again, and when I had it in high school many years ago, I thought that there was "Esta" (this f.) and "Está" (the verb "to be"). But now I see "ésta" (also éstas/éste/éstos) which also seem to be "this" or "these"... What's the difference between éstas and estas (no accent). Are these the same words or is the one without the accent incorrect? I don't remember there being an accent on it (although my memory isn't that great so I might be wrong), and dictionaries translate them both the same way, and I see it in sentences without the accent.

Can someone explain the difference between these (with no accent) este/estos/esta/estas and éste/éstos/ésta/éstas.

    Thanks!

  • Why is it that the price of Euros/GBP to Dollars seem to be inverse of the stock market?

I've noticed that when the Dow Jones is up and doing better, the price of the dollar falls against the Euro and Pound. If the stock market goes down, then the Dollar goes up. I've been watching this for the past few months (this isn't a one time thing, it's all the time), and in fact, the exchange rate for the Dollar against the Euro/Pound has improved drastically since the market crashed. Why? It seems that if our stock market was doing well that the dollar should be too, but it's the inverse. Can someone explain to me why this is? I read that there are all kinds of influences on currency exchange, but nothing about it being inverse to the stock market.

You can see the charts on Yahoo! Finance. Even this morning, as the stock market rose, the Dollar fell, and as the stock market fell, the Dollar rose. I don't get it.

  • Any rifles comparable to a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight .243?

So, I recently borrowed a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .243 caliber and I fell in love with it! The only problem is they don't make them any more (although their website appears to have a new version, but it doesn't seem you can buy it anywhere). Does anyone familiar with this gun know of something similar in the same caliber? Or does anyone know if they are going to be manufacturing these again? I'm a girl so I really need something that isn't too heavy and I don't want a higher caliber because of the kick. This gun doesn't kick hardly at all.

Also, I'd like to keep the price under $700-800.

    Thanks all!

  • What exactly does "Entre donc!" mean in French?

I know quite a bit of French and I was wondering if there were any French speakers who could explain this to me. In the wordreference.com dictionary, it says that "Entre donc!" means "Welcome back!" and is something you would say to a friend, but I can't find confirmation of this anywhere else. It's obviously not literally "Welcome back" so that's why I'd like someone who is a native speaker to explain this, as I'm thinking it must be an idiom?

Is it something that's not used much? Or is there a mistake in the dictionary? Would this be appropriate to use to welcome a friend back to an online forum where they have been gone for some time?

    Thanks!

  • Are you permitted to bring a backpack to class in public high school in the United States?

My husband is working on his graphic novel, and he has characters that are in high school, and he wants to know if people can carry backpacks to class. I graduated in '96 and don't remember if we were permitted to bring backpacks to class or not, and he never went to public school. Anyone know? How is it at your school today? Thanks!
