  • Acedimic problems, please help!?

I've been really struggling my junior year of highschool and I'm at a point where I don't know what to do anymore. I started the year out weak with low test grades, but have been slowly bringing them up. Right now I have Bs and Cs in all my classes. I have been doing a ton of work to improve my grades, but my tests averages have always been low despite all the preparation and techniques I've tried. My parents are making me use my computer in the family room from now on to avoid distractions, which I wont deny will help, but they are also restricting me from my side activities. They won't allow me out with friends, use my computer for non-school related stuff, or do anything that doesnt pertain to school really. If I have free time, they just tell me I need to keep studying. These classes are really difficult for me, and while I understand concepts, I just don't produce A work. For instance, I understand what our math test will cover, and I study it really hard, but when It comes test time, I blank on answers. So, I'm writing this question asking how to feel motivated and aquire good grades when all hope to save your grades seem lost?

  • Did American industries ever convert their products to war-time materials prior to the civil war?

During any of the wars American fought before the civil war, did industries change whatever they were making to contribute to the fight? Like changing a textile factory to uniforms, or machinery to ammunition?

  • Should I major in engineering or art?

I'm at a serious crossroad here...as a senior in High-school, I have been taking the necessary classes to have the best chance possible to get into an engineering college, but at the same time, I have devoted hundreds of hours to drawing, digital art, and painting. I enjoy a couple fields of engineering, but I love art more than anything, even if I'm not a professional or anything. I want to get a profession in art so much right now, but I know that by doing so, I'll have a much smaller income, as well as a more time-sucking job. Knowing my parents, they probably won't approve of me going into such a dead-end major, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life doing something I don't enjoy as much as I could.

    tl;dr

Should I major in engineering (which I enjoy a bit) and pursue art as a pass-time, or should I major in art (which I love) and live a difficult but fun life?

  • Is it wrong to sell a gift from my uncle?

I had never been very close to my uncle since he lived in another state until last summer when I took a plane trip out and visited him. I had a great time and we really bonded. When I left though, he gave me a gift of hundreds of dollars worth of electrical components and boards to learn how to make circuits and program machines. I had shown minimal interest in this topic while I visited but he insisted I take the gift. Upon arriving home, I tried for weeks to get into building and programming these circuits and what-not, but it never really stuck with me. I also have only talked to my uncle a few times since I came home and I'm worried that if I sell the parts that the subject of the parts will arise again someday and it'll hurt his feelings that I sold them...

    tl;dr

Should I sell the expensive gift my out-of-state uncle gave me if i will never use it and will only have minimal contact with him for years to come?

  • Should I upgrade my laptop, or buy a desktop? (EXPERIENCED ONLY)?

I currently own Gateway Nv55c laptop. It has 4gb of RAM, 230 GB HDD, and a Intel Pentium P6100 processor running on a 64 bit windows 7 OS. Before I ask my questions, let it be known that I do not use my laptop for gaming of any sort, I use it for the following programs: chrome, photoshop Cs6, after effects Cs6, paint tool Sai, microsoft word, etc. I don't demand very much out of GPU for photoshop/sai/aftereffects, but I feel as though my RAM is lacking. I found an upgrade to 8gb of RAM for the laptop but I am not sure how much it will help exactly. I always found photoshop and effects a bit laggy so I'd really like to speed them up. Another problem I have is that my laptop always runs a bit hot already while I use programs and I'm not sure If adding more RAM will increase the heat significantly. I don't have much money and the upgrade to 8gb RAM is about $70. I could potentially save up for a desktop, but I feel as though a simple RAM upgrade would suffice for my activities. A CPU upgrade is out of question due to its steep price to find an actual upgrade. I'm open to any advice.

  • In Multiplayer Magic the Gathering...?

In a Multiplayer battle with 4 people present, if you attacks me with a 4/4 and I block with a 6/5 my creature would survive, and his would die. But on the next players turn, if they used an instant to inflict 1 damage to my creature would my 6/5 die because i defended against a 4/4 the previous turn leaving it at 6/1?

  • Will this graphics card suit my needs?

I'm looking to buy a new graphics card for my computer. I want to use the computer for high detail gaming. I'd like to play Skyrim, Bioshock 2, Sanctum, and The Darkness II all on the highest settings. Will this graphics card suit those needs, and if not, about what settings would the games run on? The rest of the computer has amazing power but the graphics card just sucks.

  • Skyrim lagging despite fantastic computer?

I recently got Skyrim for my new desktop computer. It has 12 GB of RAM, 3.4 GHz processor, Direct X10 and has a AMD Raedon HD 6450 graphics card. By all means, it should run Skyrim flawlessly, but even on the absolute lowest settings, it's still lagging pretty bad. I've also already updated the game and my graphics card driver. If you know how to fix this PLEASE HELP. I'd really appreciate it.
