When at a stop sign car idles high, then dies?
I have a problem with my car, a 2002 Mustang GT with about 174K miles. When I start it up, the RPM shoot up to about 2,000 RPM for a split second, then quickly go down to about 1,000, then slowly lowers to about 850. When I put it into gear, it goes down to about 600. After I drive the car for a very short distance and go above 1K RPM, then come to a stop, the car will not come down from about 1,100 RPM it will stay there. If I don't give it gas and remain stopped, it will die in about 3 seconds.
After I start it back up, it runs fine and no more problems, it idles at about 600 when in gear and stopped.
About 2 weeks ago I purchased a Duralast IAC and I've been hearing about how crappy those duralast things are, so I'm wondering if that's causing my problem.
What happens when you press on the gas, does the IAC valve fully open? Or does it fully close? If it fully opens, then could that mean that the IAC valve remains stuck fully open when I come to a stop, therefore causing my high idle at a stop, then when it comes unstuck, my car dies. But if this were the case, why does my car run fine after I restart it? Is it because the car is now warm and doesn't need the IAC anymore to idle?
Also, should my car stay running even with the IAC valve unplugged? Is the IAC valve only supposed to engage when the engine is under extra strain like when the AC is on, or is the IAC supposed to help the engine at idle all of the time.
What other things could be causing this issue. Thank you.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoAutozone Lifetime Warranty on Duralast IAC Valve?
I bought a Duralast IAC Valve from Autozone and it came with a Lifetime Warranty. The IAC valve lasted about 2.5 months before it started acting up,very loud resonating sound that could be heard from the airbox.
I took the IAC off of my car and went to Autozone with my receipt and the IAC. When I got there I was told that they didn't have another IAC in stock but that they could order one and it would get there the next day. I said okay and I was on my way.
The next day, I went back to Autozone with my IAC and receipt and I told the worker that I had come to pick up a part. She went and got the IAC then she scanned it, scanned my receipt, then this is where I got thrown off.....She told me that the refund was going to go back into the VISA card I used to pay for the original IAC and that some of the Autozone rewards points that I used would also be refunded.
I was like, "okay"........So I signed the pad, got the new IAC and left the old one, then she gave me my receipt and it showed that the $80.00 had been returned to my card. So I walked out of there with a new IAC, which is acting funny once again just a few weeks later, and a refund of the money I had paid for the original IAC.
Was this a mistake by the employee? Or am I supposed to get the money back plus a new part? lol.
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoCar turns on, then immediately shuts off?
I have a 2002 Mustang GT. The IAC has been making a trumpet like noise after I let off the accelerator. The sound would resonate all the way to the air filter housing and the idle was acting a little funny also.
I removed the IAC today and sprayed it with TB cleaner. I drove it for around 5 minutes, then the sound became even louder. I parked the car about 10 minutes later, then when I tried to start the car, the car would start, then immediately die. I checked to see if any of the hoses had come loose, but they weren't.
If I turn the car on, then give it gas right away, the car will stay on, but as soon as I let off the gas, the car dies.
Does this sound like a bad IAC? I tried moving the IAC valve with a screwdriver and it hardly moves. It moves maybe 2 cm up and down.

1 AnswerFord8 years agoHazards and Turn Signals don't work on 02 Ford Mustang GT?
I have a 2002 Ford Mustang GT which I bought about 2 months ago. The hazard lights didn't work when I bought the car, and they still don't work. Recently, the turn signals started to fail. I would be driving and suddenly they wouldn't work.
Right now the turn signals nor the hazards work. I thought it was the multi function switch, but if that had failed wouldn't it also prevent the wipers from working since they are also turned on through that same switch? The wiper blades work fine.
What else besides the multifunction switch could be making the turn signals not work?
I'd also like to add that my brakes work, but my cruise control doesn't. Does the cruise control only work when you are going a certain MPH? because I pressed the On button when the car was sitting in Drive and nothing happened. No lights in the dashboard.
1 AnswerFord8 years ago2002 Mustang GT sputters and shakes?
My dad had the bright idea of hosing down the entire engine bay because it was dirty. He then blew the water off with an air compressor, but there was still quite a few left in the space under the carburetor.
After he was done, I went to turn on the car and it started sputtering real bad and shaking. I googled this and got many different answers. Most of them said that the problem would go away after the water dried, so I left the car and didn't turn it on until the next day. The next day the Service Engine Soon light came on and the problems still persisted. It has now been 2 days later and the car is still shaking and sputtering.
Today I opened the hood and let the car sit in the sun, then I turned it on and I let it idle for about 5 minutes, then smoke started to come out from behind the engine. The smoke was fairly white. I also reved the engine to about 4k RPM and water came out of the exhaust, quite a lot of it. I don't think it was just condensation.
Any clues what is wrong with the car? I kinda feel like just going for a ride and drive it hard around the block to see if the water clears up or if anything changes. There is also a strong gasoline odor coming out of the exhaust.

4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoDid not appear in court, warrant out for his arrest?
I have a family friend who we will call Carl. Carl was in Northern California when he committed a crime. He tried to cash a false check at a store and he got caught. Carl had to appear in court on December 2011 and he didn't attend. A few days later he got a letter from his Public Defender that the court had issued a warrant for his arrest.
Carl lives in Southern California, so shortly after that incident happened, he came back down to Southern California and has lived down here since the incident. Now, Carl wants to get this issued resolved. He contacted me and asked me if I could call the court on his behalf.
Carl wants me to call the court and ask if it's possible for the court to give him a court date to a court down here in Southern California, where he lives. I have no experience dealing with this type of stuff so I was just wondering if that's even possible. I'm also wondering if I call on his behalf I could get into some sort of trouble since he has a warrant out for his arrest.
The reason he doesn't want to call himself is because he doesn't speak good English.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics8 years agoBirth Certificate and Apostille expired?
My aunt used to live here in the U.S. She had a daughter in the state of Illinois. She is now living in Mexico with her daughter. Before she left to Mexico, she took the Birth Certificate to the Secretary of State to get an Apostille on it.
I don't know for what she is trying to use it over there in Mexico, but they told her that the Birth Certificate and Apostille expire every year and that she needs to get a new Birth Certificate with a new Apostille?!
I think this is stupid. Has anyone else heard of something similar to this?
3 AnswersGovernment9 years agoAdvance Parole - 3/10 year bar doesn't apply?
According to this recent ruling by the BIA http://www.gurfinkel.com/imm_updates131c.htm
people that are traveling with Advance Parole will not be subject to the 3/10 year bar upon returning.
My question is, if I am granted Advance Parole while under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, would I be able to travel outside of the U.S. and return without triggering the 3/10 year bar according to the new ruling?
1 AnswerImmigration9 years agoIf it weren't for the hidden camera?
You conservatives screaming " ROMNEY SAID THE TRUTH!" would have never known the "truth" because this was supposed to be behind closed doors.
If Romney had wanted to be truthful, why didn't he say this before? Why not at his RNC speech? Why does he have to tell the "truth" behind closed doors? Just goes to show that he is a two-faced liar.
Answer my question conservatives, don't answer with your own questions you idiots.
11 AnswersPolitics9 years agoDeferred Action - Advance Parole?
I applied for DACA and I have received my Biometrics appointment scheduled for the 4th of October.
I first came to the U.S. with a B2 Visitor Visa when I was 7 years old. My I-94 expired 6 months later and I overstayed my Visa.
If I am approved for Deferred Action I can apply for Advance Parole to be able to travel outside of the U.S. for certain purposes.
My question is, If I were to get approved for Advance Parole, would I have any problems leaving the U.S. or re-entering because I overstayed my Visa?

2 AnswersChristmas9 years agoWhy does Mitt Romney have a Swiss bank account?
Why does Mitt Romney have a Swiss bank account that he used to avoid paying taxes to the U.S. government? Why doesn't he want to give back to the country?
Is this the reason why he would give tax cuts to the wealthy corporations, because he doesn't like paying taxes himself?
12 AnswersPolitics9 years agoUSCIS Biometrics appointment walk-in?
I have received my Biometrics appointment letter from USCIS. The appointment is 2 weeks from now. My question is, do I have to wait until that date, or can I go to the office and get my Biometrics done earlier?
I would prefer if only people that have experience with this process answer.
6 AnswersImmigration9 years agoDeferred Action, No more bar for overstay visa?
Say for example, someone who has been living here in the US that overstayed their Visitor Visa, they apply for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and get approved. They obtain a SSN and EAD. They can then apply to travel outside of the U.S. If that permit is granted, they will no longer have the 10 year bar for overstaying their Visa, would they then be able to apply for a Green Card?
3 AnswersImmigration9 years agoForgot to sign money order, filing with USCIS?
I am filing some paperwork with USCIS, I sent them a western union money order, but I don't remember if I signed it! It did have a place to sign it, but I can't remember if I did.
Do you think this will be an issue? Are money orders required to be signed in order to be cashed? Even if it's for the Department of Homeland Security? I don't want them to mail me back my application just because I forgot to sign the stupid money order :(

1 AnswerImmigration9 years agoLaptop connects then disconnects from router?
I have a Desktop PC, 5 phones and 1 laptop on our home network. They all work fine, except my laptop. It had been working good all day, except about 30 minutes ago when it disconnected from the router. I checked my phone and the desktop PC and they both had internet connection.
My laptop then started to connect to the router, it connected, then disconnected. I let it do that for about 5 minutes and it never successfully connected back to the router. I restarted the laptop, still didn't work. My laptop has an external switch to turn on or turn off the wireless adapter, I turned it off, then on and it still didn't work.
Finally I just reset the router, then, my laptop was able to connect to it. This also happened to me yesterday. Why is it that all of the other devices are able to stay connected to the router yet my laptop isn't? Are there any settings I can play around with to get it to work better? Or is it just a weak wireless internet adapter that has trouble connecting?
