  • What are some good astronomy simulation engines?

In my astronomy class, I'm working an creating an imaginary-but-possible star system with its own planets, satellites, etc. Does anyone know of some good orbital simulators, or other things I might find useful? Free and open source program are strongly preferred.

  • Why is it okay to abstract the idea of the mark of the beast, but not the rest of the Bible?

Something I commonly see/hear is that the Bible is not meant to be metaphorical, that it all should be taken literally. However, when it comes to ideas about the "mark of the beast," described as a mark put on the hand or forehead, in modern times it's commonly abstracted to apply to some sort of microchip or other device inserted beneath the flesh, rather than a visible marking. Why is this? And, are there other parts with this same discrepancy?

And yes, I do realize that some do consider the Bible more metaphorically. The typical push, however, seems to be that it is the sole, literal, absolute truth.

  • Where is front-end web development headed?

I consider myself a front-end dev, but I'm still in college and haven't had much real work. Originally, I understood front-end dev to be working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with things like PHP and such occasional secondaries. I understood it to be separate from back-end dev, and from design.

From what I've seen, front-end seems to be re-merging with the other two, or else pushing back-end dev even further back to being a programming and security experts only thing, while front end takes on anything easily recognizable as web.

So: what is the future of front-end dev? From where you're at, what can you see coming?

  • Would Heaven be Communist?

As I understand it, the Judeo-Christian Heaven is a perfect place where all are happy and no one wants for anything. Everyone has all they need and want provided for them, so they can spend their time worshiping, chatting with, and generally basking in the glory of God (which is all anyone even wants to do). In general, the way Heaven has been described to me sounds like the perfect state of Communism with a Vanguard (God).

  • How would one join Alice Cooper's Bible group?

My grandmother is a fan of Alice Cooper (particularly the real man, Vincent Furnier), and has been investing a lot into his biographies and such. (I don't know a whole lot about him myself.) Recently, she was trying to find out if she could join his Bible group.

My search didn't turn up anything other than articles about him being Christian and indeed HAVING a Bible group. I'm going to guess that a person would have to live near him to get involved, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone could tell me anything about it.

  • How should my boyfriend and I handle taxes?

He moved in a few months ago, and we've shared everything. We've also had about the same (small) income so far, and neither of us could have kept housed and fed alone. I recall a bit in taxes asking if someone else has paid a significant portion of your expenses (wondering if we should list each other, or ignore that bit), and I know there are other parts that I don't recall right now or haven't even seen. Presently, we have no legal standing as a couple. (Additionally, I'm a college student, and he's currently paying back his student loans.)

Any suggestions on how we should fill out our taxes in the coming year? I'm mostly asking for federal taxes, but any tips on Oregon state taxes would also be very welcome.

    Thanks.

  • Where can I find a good lunar orbit simulator?

I'm trying to figure out the rotations of two moons for a role play world I'm making, specifically how they would align, but I don't exactly know a great deal of physics. I was hoping to use a simulator to figure out sizes, orbits, etc, but I have no clue where to find a good one that wold actually be useful.

(And if anyone's curious about the RP, it's at worldoid.com)
