In the nicest possible way: If you disagree with one of my answers, then you have become the victim of a terrible lie.

  • Cost to ship $672 worth of goods from Canada to MN?

I'm trying to buy a couple car parts from a dealership in Thunder Bay, Ontario and have them shipped to Minneapolis, MN but can't find any actual total fee calculators anywhere.

    $336 KIA Forte side skirts

    $336 KIA Forte front lip

Shipping weight will be around 20 lbs/9 kg.

It will need to be shipped with UPS. There is the shipping fee itself, but then there are taxes and duties and potentially other things I don't know about! If there's anyone who is familiar with this stuff if you could crunch some numbers or shoot me a link to a comprehensive calculator I would appreciate it.

  • What do you think of this custom-made ring?

My sister and I asked a jewelry shop in our hometown to make a ring to celebrate our mom's fifth anniversary of being breast cancer-free. The ring is going to cost about $450 and I attached the picture the jewelry shop sent us below.

Those that have the knowledge about these sorts of things, after looking at that picture, do you think the ring should be worth $450? To my sister and I, it looks cheap and poorly done. Thanks for the input and if you have any questions please ask!

  • Statistics: Need some help with determining a confidence interval?

I'm doing a small project for my STAT class, but I'm a little confused. I took the 15 most lenient gun control states and the 15 most strict gun control states, added up how many violent crimes occurred in each state in 2008, and divided the total by the population to get the decimal percentage of the population who committed crimes.

My question is, how can I determine a confidence interval for this data? Do I even have the right data I need to determine a confidence interval? (Feel free to ask any questions; I'll be around) The statistics are as follows.

    15 most Strict states:

    California .0392

    New Jersey .0475

    Connecticut .0319

    Massachusetts .0327

    Maryland .0475

    New York .0277

    Rhode Island .0426

    Hawaii .0408

    Illinois .0395

    Pennsylvania .0320

    Delaware .0495

    Michigan .0389

    North Carolina .0495

    Oregon .0360

    Virginia .0301

    -------------

    Total: 0.5854

    15 most Lenient states:

    Oklahoma .0445

    Louisiana .0510

    Kentucky .0307

    West Virginia .0309

    Utah .0377

    North Dakota .0219

    Missouri .0464

    Alaska .0417

    Mississippi .0348

    South Dakota .0199

    New Mexico .0515

    Idaho .0252

    Florida .0549

    Arkansas .0479

    Arizona .0516

    -------------

    Total: 0.5906

Here is a histogram I made of the data if it helps:

  • Wiring a resistor with an LED?

I'm planning on making a keyboard LED light for my laptop using the design on the following page:

    http://www.josepino.com/?usb_led_light

My question is: should I solder the 100 ohm resistor to the positive lead or the negative lead of the LED? I thought it would be the positive lead, but it looked like the person making the guide had it going to the negative... O_o

  • What's the best imaging program to make system restore disks with?

I occasionally build and sell computers, and I'd like to be able to include a "System Restore Disk" with the computers I sell to restore them back to their original configurations, such as the ones shipped with Dell and HP computers.

What are some good programs that I can use to make these disks?

I'm looking for a program that would let me burn the entire contents of the hard drive to a CD or DVD, which I could then use to boot the computer from and restore the hard drive back to the way it was when I first sold the PC. I don't mind if I need to spend a little money on it.
