How does the altitude affect an aircraft's speed, maneuverability & engine? For example, in the specifications of an F-16s maximum speed, it shows:

At sea level: Mach 1.2 (915 mph, 1,470 km/h)

At altitude: Mach 2+ (1,500 mph, 2,410 km/h) clean configuration

Why is maximum speed decreased at higher altitudes?

I mean the quality of the picture. I took 6 pictures with a Nikon D60 and 6 same pictures with a Sony Handycam HDR-SR11, BOTH with 10.2 Megapixels. And the quality of the image is completely different, the Nikon having the best image, why is this? I think it could be the lens or the sensor
