Why hasn't the United Nations stepped in to straighten out the mess in Iraq?
Preferably, by partitioning it into Sunnistan, Shiitistan and Kurdistan. Those people are never going to coexist side by side in the kind of dream world of democracy US politicians in BOTH parties stubbornly pursue with taxpayer money and soldiers' blood.
6 AnswersPolitics6 years agoWhy is my kitchen water supply running slowly?
During the recent blizzard, about 4-5 feet of copper tubing pipes in my kitchen, hot as well as cold, froze for about 3 days. One soldered joint even sprung a link. Ever since they thawed, the flow on both is just a fraction of what it should be. My son claimed that when the thaw first became apparent, the water had some sort of green component to it.

I found out the hard way how much salt they put in Ramen noodles, especially the flavor/seasoning pack.

9 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWho makes the best TV dinners?
I am getting tired of paying inflated prices for bland foods at the Guckenheimers near the office, and I would rather start brownbagging whatever the highest quality microwavible frozen dinners are. From my bachelor days I have favorable recollections of Boston Market, Stouffers and Marie Callendars. Any other suggestions?

13 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoHow do I connect Windows Server 2008 to my existing Windows NT4 domain?
Since the mid 90s I've had a network domain running first under Windows NT Server 3.51 and now under Windows NT Server 4.0. In that time I have routinely added workstations to this domain running NT Workstation 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional without a single problem.
This week I installed an evaluation copy of Windows Server 2008 I got from Microsofts web site on an available PC. Although I can ping my NT 4 Primary Domain Controller from the Windows 2008 PC (which is in the same room), every time I try to move the 2008 Server from the default WORKGROUP to my exisiting NT4 DOMAIN, I get a message saying something like "invalid ID or password".
I have tried creating new Admin IDs on my PDC and then using them on the 2008 machine to make the 2008 computer a member of the domain, and still no luck. All the while the 2008 computer can still ping the NT4 PDC, so this can't be a disconnected cable issue.
2 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade agoWhat is the best treatment for muscular strains in the upper leg?
I strained a muscle in my upper left leg / hip from either slouching in my chair, or sitting crooked in my chair too long, or letting my billfold get too stuffed. Or all of the above. Its pretty painful to transition from a sitting position to standing or vice versa, and some days I have to get one of the kids to come around and close the car door for me after I get in the drivers seat. But then after I get to work, if I have an active day with lots of walking around the pain subsides so much I forget about the injury altogether. I generally don't have a problem getting to sleep in my preferred position in a (my wife's) waterbed.
What is the proper treatment for this injury?
1 AnswerInjuries1 decade agoWhat kind of candy can I buy my wife for Valentines Day?
Since last February she was diagnosed as diabetic. I forgot what kind though. But her diet restricts her from eating rice and potatoes if that says anything. Would that suggest I should not buy the same imported chocolate caramels as last year? (She also has a birthday next week, I'll let her pick a restaurant for that)
11 AnswersDiabetes1 decade agoWhat should we replace fossil fuel with in the Power Generation industry?
The US Depertment of Energy says we currently have a generating capacity of about 1 trillion watts. About 70% of that is currently coming from the burning of fossil fuels, about 10% from nuclear, 7.7% hydroelectric dams, 2.4% from wind, solar, geothermal etc. See the link below for the source.
How should we try to change those numbers in the future? I'm looking for the relative proportions of each source you think we should aim for, e.g. "one third solar, one third wind, one third fossil, a little nuclear" or even exact revised persentages. Or even if you think the current numbers are OK.
