I understand the theory behind specific gravity, density and stokes law. That is not the problem. I am trying to determine the specific gravity of a product I am working with, Granular Activated Carbon (GAC). The density of it is 0.5 g/cm3. This is what we calculated but I confirmed a similar density theoretically as well. The density of water is 1 g/cm3. This should result in the specific gravity of GAC being 0.5, meaning it does not sink in water. It does,however, sink in water at approximately a rate of 0.5ft/sec.

Am I missing something basic? What am I not understanding about this? Why is the specific gravity lower than 1 yet it is still sinking in water?

I am getting a female lab puppy tomorrow !!! I want to figure out a creative name (ie: black "her name"). The ones I am currently throwing around are Pearl and Magic. The ones that don't fit that are Guinness, Hobie, and Zelda. I don't want a standard dog name but a creative one. Any Ideas?

I am getting a Black Lab puppy soon and am trying to brainstorm names. I was thinking of doing something like Magic or Pearl, so that she is my Black Magic or Black Pearl. The other name I was throwing around is Guinness but I'm not sure how I would I guess abbreviate it.

Im going to Daytona with a trip called Dayton 2 Daytona. We register groups and then are assigned 1 of 5 hotels that university of dayton students will basically take over. We got hotel 3, Conch House. Last year i was in hotel 5. they are supposed to get worse the higher the number. hotel 5 had a kitchenette and living room. I do not know much about the Conch House.

Has anyone stayed at the Conch House? and if so what did u think of it? Mind you we have 5 college guys that will be living there in a room for a week.
