  • What is good software to copy a DVD?

I converted a VHS to a DVD-R years ago. It contains the equivalent of home movies. The DVD-R is set up with your traditional DVD movie menu (VIDEO_TS directory with *.VOB and *.BUP files inside). I just want to make a copy of this DVD. Is there some freeware that does a straight DVD-to-DVD copy, or do I need to rip everything, re-encode, and create a new DVD?

  • How do I remove music from my iPod?

    Short version:

I need to move music from my iPod to my computer so I can fix ID3 (or AAC) tags on the mp3 files, then move the same, corrected mp3 files back to the iPod.

    Long version:

I used to have a Pioneer car stereo with iPod control. It displayed all of the song information correctly. I got a new car about a year ago that didn't have iPod control. Today, I finally got a new stereo that supports full iPod control. I plugged in my iPod for the first time in over a year (I only use it in my car). The files may have become corrupt or something in while my iPod has been collecting dust, but now the song title, artist, and album are all displayed as the song title.

    Instead of:

    Gimme Shelter

    Rolling Stones

    Greatest Hits

    It displays:

    Gimme Shelter

    Gimme Shelter

    Gimme Shelter

The real head scratcher for me is that it only does this on some songs. Maybe 10% of the songs still have the ID3 tag intact (although the album art doesn't display so I want to fix that anyway).

I don't use the iTunes store. All of the music that is on my iPod was legally purchased as CDs and ripped to my old computer years ago. I don't have that computer any more, and I no longer have the mp3 library that was on it. I don't want to go through the hassle of ripping all of my music from my CD library back to my computer, import it to iTunes, then copy it over to my iPod. It seems like I should be able to transfer my ripped mp3 library from my iPod into my new computer, fix the ID3 tags, then copy them back to my iPod.

I'm using an old 30GB iPod Video. I have no use for upgrading it to something new.

    I found this article:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329

But it explicitly states that it won't work with music that wasn't purchased from the iTunes store (which mine wasn't). I really wish that Apple didn't think it knew what was best for me and would let me use the hardware that I purchased the way that I want to use it. Is there any third party software or anything that will help me do what I need to do?

  • How do I get information from Equifax?

I have a Credit monitoring service through my bank, and I was recently alerted of a new inquiry against my credit. It was reported by Equifax. How can I get more information about the company that ran this inquiry? I am trying to figure out if it is legitimate or fraud.

  • Where can I download Microsoft Office 2007 Home/Student?

I legally purchased Microsoft Office 2007 last year as a student. I have a key for the software, but I no longer have the installation CD's. When I purchased it, I downloaded it directly from Microsoft. I would like to do the same thing again. Is there an FTP server or something hosted by Microsoft somewhere that I can use to download the software?

  • What is a good online dealer for car stereos?

Someone recently broke into my car and stole my car stereo. I'm trying to replace it. I had a Pioneer DEH-P7900BT previously. I loved the head unit, but Pioneer no longer makes that model. Now that I am back in the market, I was thinking about upgrading the unit to the DEH-P9800BT because the current 7000 series are not as good as what I had. I found the DEH-P9800BT on Amazon for $388 which is a pretty good price for the head unit (Best Buy sells them for $549). Are there any other online retailers that you can suggest that might have cheaper prices? I am also open to purchasing an older Pioneer model if there are stores out there that sell them. It has to be a Pioneer because I already have cables run with Pioneer connections on them. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

  • How do you change resolution on PS3?

I have a PS3 and a 42" 1080p TV. The video settings in the PS3 are set to 1080p. I brought the system to my dad's house (10 hour trip) to show him some movies on blu ray. His TV only supports up to 720p. When I hooked up the PS3 to his 720p TV, I'm getting a blank screen on his TV because it doesn't support the 1080p resolution. I need to reset the resolution on the PS3 to 720 or autodetect on the TV. I'm using an HDMI cable to connect the PS3 to the TV. Can someone give me a walkthrough to get the video resolution reset so I can use this thing on the TV? I'm looking for directions like, "Start all the way to the left. Move right once. Move down 4 times." Etc. Or if there is some way to do a manual reset that wouldn't erase my game memory/hard drive, that would work too. Please help!!

  • It's only a theory?

Are you one of those people that discredits evolution because it's "only a theory?" Are you aware that a hypothesis does not become a theory until it has been so thoroughly tested that it is extremely unlikely to change? To give you an idea, gravity, mathematics, the heliocentric universe, astronomy...these are all theories in science. Theories are the end products of science, not stages on the way to truth.

    Here is the question...

If you are one of the people that discredits evolution as "only a theory," do you throw a fit about gravity being taught in our schools? Are you feverishly trying to come up with an alternative to the ridiculous number theory of mathematics so that we can stop this unlawful teaching of our children in public schools? Do you sit in high school science classes demanding that the teacher preface his unit on the solar system by saying, "Keep in mind, this is all theoretical?"

Yes, your reasoning really is that ridiculous.

  • How do you install speaker wire in the wall?

I have my receiver against the front wall. The couch is against the back wall. I'm trying to mount the rear speakers behind the couch (probably on stands). The left and right walls only connect to the front wall, not the back wall (it's sort of like this room sits in the middle of a hallway). I need to install the wire into the front wall, run it through the ceiling, then down the back wall. There will be plates for the speaker wire connections installed in the walls. The problem is that I'm not sure how to feed the wire through the wall to the ceiling then back down the other wall. Are there any guides online that have a good tutorial on how to do this? Pictures would be helpful. I talked to some installers locally that said they would do the job for $400. I'm not prepared to pay that much money so if I can do it myself, I will.

  • Benefits for T-Mobile employees?

I'm considering working for T-Mobile. Does anyone know what benefits they have available for full time and part time employees? I know the benefits are listed on the website, but it doesn't differentiate what I might get with a part time job.

  • Did you know that some early Christians were polytheistic?

Seriously though, what do you call that line of thinking that goes something like:

If atheism is true, then I will not suffer after I die by being Christian. If Christianity is true, then you will suffer horribly for eternity because you're an atheist. You might as well be a Christian.

I know there's a name for it. It came up the other day, but I can't remember what it's called for the life of me.

Oh, and if you want to know more about polythestic Christians, just do some research on Marcion.

  • iPod Touch?

Does anyone else think this is a terrible idea? I don't know about you, but I use my current iPod in the car most of the time. I don't really use it for anything else. There are a lot of other people that use them in their cars as well. With the iPod Touch, you can't feel the buttons to skip tracks so you actually have to look down at the iPod Touch to do anything. You can't go be feel. That means you'd be taking your eyes off the road to do...whatever it is you wanted to do. Anyone else think this is just a bad idea?

  • New computer speakers?

I have some Altec Lansing speakers for my computer. It's a two speaker set with a small (maybe 6") subwoofer. I just hooked up a wireless network in my house, and the wireless signal from my router interferes with my speakers. It's sort of a popping-static sound. I have to unplug the speakers to get them to stop "popping." Turning them off doesn't make a difference. I'm looking to get some new speakers so that I don't have to deal with it any more. Is there anything that I should look for that would help me avoid running into the same problem with my new speakers? Any recommendations? I don't need anything fancy. The 2.1 system works just fine for my needs.

  • Factorial algebra?

I've been looking at this problem for a while, but I can't figure out what the next step is. I think I just don't know the rules to solve factorial unknowns. Can someone help me solve this? I would appreciate an explanation to go along with an answer, or really just an explanation. I could find the answer on my own if I understood how to do it. Anyway...the problem is:

    (x!) / [(x-11)! * 11!] = 12,367

  • What's the big deal about the iPhone?

The design looks just like the LG KE850.

    The battery can't be removed.

You can't get insurance on it.

You need to sign a 2 year contract to get your hands on one. Buying one at full retail isn't an option so if you want an iPhone, you're locked in with AT&T for 2 years.

It's outdated when it comes to its data capabilities. No mobile TV capabilities which limits it in comparison to other phones offered by AT&T.

If the touch screen goes out, your phone becomes useless.

It's really overpriced for what you're getting.

You don't get discounts when you sign a contract. You have to pay full retail regardless of whether you're starting service or not (which, at launch, you'll have to be starting service anyway).

Seriously, I don't get it. What's with the hype of the iPhone?

  • Anyone know anything about evaporative coolers (swamp coolers)?

I just moved into a new place. It came with a swamp cooler that's sitting in a shed outside. I know the basic idea of how a swamp cooler is supposed to work, but I have no idea how to install one. Can anyone either tell me how to set this thing up or give me a link with instructions on how to set one up? Does it need to be attached to a water supply? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Do any MMA fighters use Tool for their entrance music?

I think it would be awesome if a fighter (MMA, boxer, whatever) used Vicarious for their entrance. It would be fitting. I do know that Tool is fairly protective of their music so I'm not sure if they would allow it, but it would be sweet.

  • How do you convert m4p to mp3?

I know of the method of burning CDs of m4p's, then ripping those CDs as mp3s. I can't do that because I don't have a burner in my computer. I tried Xilisoft, but I couldn't get it to work. Anyone know of any freeware that will do this? Or any other methods that might work?

  • What's with this reasoning?

I just read an answer about early Christianity and the existence/nonexistence of Jesus. One person (s/he will remain anonymous) answered:

"Can anyone explain that why would the Romans heavily persecute so called Christians at that time? History did record that persecutions of Christians

Those Christian would not die for something that's not true."

I've seen this line of thinking on several different occasions. A Christian does not believe in Muslim faith, yet they see Muslims die for their beliefs today. Christians see people die for something that isn't true in their eyes, yet it's impossible that a Christian wouldn't die for something that's not true. How does that make any sense at all?
