  • best pregnancy test to use early?

I am currently on day 3 of being late on my period and so far have had 2 negative test. One tested yesterday and one first thing this morning. Both tests were Tesco homebrand.

Does anyone know of any tests that may be more sensitive. I know many say first response, but then again many say homebrands are just as good.

I feel the pressure is on as I have been offered a new job and net to let them know if I accept or not by tomorrow. Obviously if I am, I will have to say no as I will miss out on maternity.

Ive tried phoning the doctors and they wont be able to see me until Friday. So in short I have today to either get a positive test, or my period.

For my last pregnancy I had a positive result the day after I was late and that was with a homebrand test, so I am very confused.

Is there any point in getting a more sensitive test even though I tested first ting this morning with a homebrand one? Or is it a waste as Ive tested at the optimum time today already, regardless the test I used.

  • Car insurance and chipped windscreen?

I recently chipped my front windscreen and need to get it fixed. It is a chip, not a crack and not very deep. I have scoured through my insurance documents and I am very confused. I have an excess of £100 but not sure if I have to pay this is the windscreen does not need to be replaced.

If I have to pay the excess to get the chip fixed Im sure I can get it fixed cheaper elsewhere.

What is normal as I dont want to call the insurance company and pay £100 if I can get it fixed for cheaper without contacting them.

I am hoping the excess only gets paid if the windscreen needs replacing, but they way its written in the documents does not make it super clear without a dictionary nearby.

  • Licence and car insurance in different names?

I have recently married and have taken my husbands name. This means for ID purposes I have changed my last name on my driving licence. However out of spite I chose not to change it on my car insurance as it meant paying an admin fee and rather change it when it comes up for renewal in 6 months. Does the different names invalidate my insurance?

  • stopping the pill and periods?

I am planning on stopping taking the contraceptive pill and wondering when I should expect my next period. I plan to take my current pack in full and therefore have a period at the end of that, but if I do not start a new pack after the 7day break for the "fake" period when might my next real one be. I was very regular before starting the pill.

  • Antibiotics and the pill. Pregnant?

am on microgynon and due to a jaw infection been on quite heavy antibiotics this cycle. I started off getting IV antibiotics for 12hours whilst i was still on my period (come to think of it, it was very light) then moved on to Augmentin in tablet form for 7 days. I was on those when i started the new pack. Thankfully i managed to have 7 days with no antibiotics before i got put on amoxicillin for 5 days. Had it not been for the pill those days would have been my ovulation days and i did notice what i thought looked like eggwhite CM. It is now 4 days til i finish my current pill pack and out of curiosity since i cant make any sense if antibiotics affect the pill or not i decided to check my cervix. It is quite soft and it feels like there may be a mucus plug formed. I have a vague recollection from early pregnancy with my daughter and feeling my cervix was my first indication that i was pregnant. But i have to admit Ive kept myself out of the area whilst on the pill so i have no idea how it should feel. Its definitively not hard and i wouldnt call it low. And before i had my daughter i could feel a dimple when it was in its closed stage so after childbirth i would expect a larger dimple when closed. There is certainly not any opening. Has anyone got pregnant with the pill and antibiotics. And what should a cervix on the pill feel like. I know i will get some answers fairly soon but i am the curious type. Although Im not sure if i will miss a period since they are not actually the "real" thing. If it turns out i am pregnant we would be quite happy as we were planning on trying for another one after our wedding in two weeks.

  • pre baking and icing cake?

I would like to make a cake for my daughters birthday but will not have time to do it all in one day. I am aware I need to obviously bake it, crumb coat it and cover it in the fondant icing. But I am wondering if I can stretch this out over 3 days or can I do it all in one day then leave for a whole day before we eat it without it becoming dry.

To give you an estimate over my schedule for it am planning to bake Thursday afternoon, then crumb coat put it in the fridge and not cover it in fondant until Saturday morning and decorate before we eat it. But can I bake, crumb coat and ice it in fondant in to put in the fridge for Saturday in one go?

  • 8 month old not eating or drinking much?

My daughter is now 8 month old and in the past 2 and a half weeks she has been refusing her food (solids) She would take a few spoonfuls and then refuse any more (she would still drink her formula milk and water), at this point she also developed diarrhoea and we took her to the doctor who diagnosed her with a sore throat which was why she would refuse solids. He recommended to give her baby neurofen to take the pain away so she would eat again and if nothing changed to come back in a few days.

Three days later we were back at the doctors as she was still refusing solids and starting to drink less of her milk she also didnt do her normal kicking and turning when getting her dressed in the morning, but would just let me do what I needed even though she still cooed and giggled and smiled. we got prescribed dioralyte, which seemed to perk her up a little and she got some interest back in food. 5 days after that the diarrhoea which had subsided since the last doctors visit was back and she sicked up her breakfast so back to the doctors we went who advised us to keep her home and inside and keep the fluids going in the form of milk and water as her problem may be that her immune system was low and she would just pick up any germ out there before she got the chance to recover from the last one. Since then she has been refusing food from the spoon and eating finger foods really slowly and someitmes just loosing interest in them. She has also now stopped drinking her formula and has no interest in water. In the last two days she has had moments of perky, fun chatty self where she goes all out physically. Crawling across the room and lifting herself up to standing and then being very cuddly and just wanting to sit with an adult and suck her thumb. She has also been sleeping more in the daytime.

It now being a friday night should we wait until monday and go back to the doctor or just go straight to hospital. She has developed the knack of perking up when at the doctors and I feel myself having to fight with them now the next time I see them because even though they may see a baby who is chatty and seems well she isnt once we get home and I am just tired of the "wait a few more days" advice we get and the "babies pick up all sorts". Despite all this she isnt getting any better, she is getting worse.

  • special delivery envelopes (royal mail)?

I am getting my passport renewed and for this they ask I enclose a self addressed special delivery envelope so they can send it back securely. So far all is good, the envelope has been paid so no need to visit the post office again but I am confused over the tracking stickers. Do I leave all of them on the enclosed special delivery envelope or do I keep some of them on. As I can see there are 2 stickers with the barcode on as well as one the main bit which makes 3 barcodes and tracking number so common sense would mean thats one for me,one for the sender and one for royal mail, There are also two little one with no barcode just a tracking number. What do I take off, if anything?

Cant really find a how-to bit on the internet for those of us who do not use these that often. Normally they do all the sticker bit in the post office and no one really explained to me how to do it.

  • Pill after pregnancy?

I gave birth 12 weeks ago and since then I had a normal period, the second normal period I had I started taking the pill Yasmin, but having had light bleeding with this pill for 3 weeks I went to the doctors and they gave me Microgynon 30 which was the pill I was on before I decided to get pregnant. The advice I was given was just to continue straight with microgynon and not have a break for a period but its not been a week and I am still bleeding. I dont understand as I was fine with microgynon before.

I am tempted to have a break for a period and then continue with microgynon after the week of no pills rather then carry on for another 3 weeks bleeding before having a pill free week.

has anyone else had problems with going back on the pill after being pregnant?

  • Homeopathic expiry dates?

Ive been given a kit by a friend after a bathroom clearout, but it expires in a week. Is it still safe to use so close to the expiry date or should I just throw it out?

  • Carrying like own mum.?

Just a fun and interesting thing im trying to figure out regarding facts and wifes tales..

I know that according to the old wives tales you are pregnant with a boy if you carry low and a girl if you carry high.

My mum carried low in both her pregnancies and ended up with girls both times.

Makes me curious if I am carrying low because of family genetics of carrying a pregnancy and so could end up with either gender or mix the old wives tale with my mums experience and so sway towards having a girl.

I am just wondering if anyone knew how their own mothers carried and what it turned out to be and was it the same for you.

  • Flagyl when trying to for a baby?

Ive just been prescribed flagyl for a dental problem with swollen gums around a tooth and my dentist knew we are trying for a baby. So to instead of having the tooth out (he wont have an apt to do that for a two weeks and by then I may be unknowingly pregnant) He decided to clean the area and for me to leave it ti see if the swelling goes down and pain subsides. Incase it didnt he gave me flagyl antibiotics to get rid of it completely.

The swelling has gone down but the pain is still there a little bit so I took one tablet of flagyl 200mg and now I am wondering if continuing to take this may now impact on my chances of conceieving this month or having a healthy baby should this be my month. I am not due to ovulate for another 3 days so should I not take anymore or continue and hope for the best. I am very confused since i know flagyl shouldnt be taken in early pregnancy but there is very little information when trying to get pregnant.

  • Two week wait over or ongoing?

im am a bit confused as to what is going on. My last few cycles has been as follows. Af on may 11, positive opk on 28th af again on june 11th, positive opk on the 29th with af turning up on july 12th. I then got a positive opk on the 25th of july (early according to the last two cycles) I didnt test on the 24th as we thought it was too early and the surge was gone the next day (unusual as I would normally get a surge lasting two days)

So according to my luteal phase af should have turned up on aug 7th right? According to cycle length its not due until 10th/11th. In the last two days my breasts have started feeling tender which never happen before a period and i have been very emotional and losing my temper a lot quicker for the past 6days. I have also had some cramping so it feels like af is about to turn up.

What shall i go with? Luteal lenght or cycle length? Am i late or still waiting?

  • TTC friend for support and guidance?

Just wondering if anyone out there sometime feels a bit lonely in the emotional minefield that is TTC'ing. We have only been trying for 3months and I know AF is due either later today or tomorrow so hopefully months 4 will be our month. But it would be good to have someone to talk to who is in the same position as me to vent out frustration and share hopes.

  • ovulation and period mathematics help?

my cycles have been a bit irregular after coming off the pill. Ovulation changes but period always turn up turn up after the same amount of time after ovulation each month. As i understand it, this is how it should be as your luteral phase is set.

So am i right in thinking that since i ovulated sat 29 and period turning up on fri 11 and then next ovulated tues 29 with period starting mon 12 that the next time i should expect my period is sat7 when i ovulated sun25.

I am using opk thats how i know i ovulated.
