  • Chefs: What types of mustard do you keep on hand?

For recipes, sandwiches, etc., what types of mustard do you like to keep on hand at all times? I usually have one or two varieties in the fridge at any given time, but find I need a different variety when I go to make a recipe! Any good tips for keeping the appropriate stockpiles on hand?

  • What does the phrase "now more than ever" mean to you?

I was listening to NPR this morning and heard Florida Governor Charlie Crist say something like "Americans need to pull together now more than ever" to overcome the current economic problems. I thought to myself:

    Does he really mean that?

Do we need to pull together more now than at any time in history?

How about the Civil War or WWII?

    Wow...

You might guess from this internal monologue that I think this phrase is entirely misused and overused. But I'm still curious:

What does it mean to you, literally or figuratively?

  • Have you personally cut a box springs in half and reused it?

Okay. So there are already a few questions here on this topic, but they're old and unfortunately not expertly answered. Sigh.

I found instructions for cutting and folding a box springs here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Cutting-and-Foldin...

My question: Have you ever done this yourself, and were you pleased with the results? Do you follow the same basic method outlined here, or do something completely different? What are your recommendations to others attempting this might feat?

Note: I'm not looking for alternatives (such as buying split box springs, foldable box springs, or any other miracle solutions). I'm just looking for the real experience of real people who've tried this before.

    Thanks!

  • How would you use a large kitchen wall to organize your stuff?

I have a small galley kitchen with only a few cabinets and just one (one!) drawer. But I have lots of kitchen items to store, many of which are in a pantry area on chrome wire shelves.

In the kitchen itself, I do have a wall about 10 feet long suitable for organizing stuff on. I'm considering two organizing options: a pegboard or a rod system.

Here's the basic pegboard idea: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2007/08/peg-boar...

Here's the basic rod system idea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/serie...

So, my question: Have you tried either of these ideas -- or something altogether different -- to organize your kitchen gadgets and other hangy things? Which do you think is more appealing?

  • What nifty ideas do you have to re-use empty spice jars?

Small or large, glass or plastic... what ideas do you have for re-using empty spice jars from the grocery store?

I use a large plastic one as a baking soda shaker, and a small plastic one as a confectioner sugar sprinkler.

Besides just recycling them, what tips and ideas do you have?

  • Have you used natural wall coverings such as grasscloth?

I am looking to add a natural element to my bedroom - on the walls! I'm considering grasscloth, sisal, and cork. I'm curious to know if you've used any of these materials yourself, where you bought them, cost, eco-friendliness, satisfaction, etc. Also, if you have cats or dogs and can comment on whether they've caused any issues with the wall coverings, that'd be great.
