Military Retirement Pay Question?
My husband was medically retired in November. Since then, he's been getting a deposit from both "VACP Treas" and "DFAS retnet" every month. Does this sound correct? We only expected one check. Thanks.

9 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan6 years agoInterviewing for other positions after accepting a job offer?
I've very recently relocated and I sent out many applications to work as a Pharmacy Technician prior to moving. I had a few interviews lined up soon upon arrival, and one has already taken place and today I was offered the job for that position. They offered me full time and a fair wage, so I immediately accepted the position. A few hours after signing some paperwork in store to accept the position and agree to a background check, then doing a drug test, I got a call from a competitor. I informed them I had already accepted a position and they told me they could beat the wage I was offered and asked me to still come in for an interview. I initially said no just because I didn't feel right about doing this after already accepting the other position, but then I called back and said I was interested and scheduled an interview. I decided I just had to work in my own best interests. Is this a bad idea or did I do the right thing?
4 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment7 years agoBuying Renter's Insurance soon before move out?
I currently live in an apartment, and my dogs have done a good amount of damage to the carpet and walls over the past two years we've lived here. I've considered getting renter's insurance before, but never got around to it. Now that I'm planning to move out in just over a month, I'm starting to stress over move out charges. If I were to purchase renter's insurance today, do you think they would cover my move out charges in a month? The insurance is only about $15 a month, so I'd much rather pay that than potentially have to pay a couple hundred in charges. My main concern is that they'll catch on to what I've done and ban me from using their company, which is the same company I get a great rate for car insurance from and I don't want to lose that. What do you think?
9 AnswersRenting & Real Estate7 years ago"Mathematic" or "mathematical" in this sentence?
I am making a resume and one of my bullets under my Skills and Abilities section says, "Strong mathematic skills." Spell checker suggests mathematical, but I've looked it up and mathematic is also a proper word on its own. I think mathematic sounds best, but I've been told mathematical sounds better. What do you suggest?
- Strong mathematic skills
OR
- Strong mathematical skills
Thanks!

6 AnswersQuotations7 years agoMoving to a new city with no apartment lined up?
My husband and I will be making a big move from California to Denver, Colorado as soon as he gets out of the Marine Corps. I've been doing tons of research and I have narrowed down 2-3 apartments I want to tour before settling on one. My husband wants to take a special trip before the move to take care of the apartment situation, but I would prefer to save the $500 or so and just make it all happen when we arrive there. We will be driving our car and a Uhaul full of furniture, plus 2 small dogs.
Is it at all feasible to show up in the city with all that and then find an apartment immediately upon arrival, or is it going to take an extensive amount of time (more than 1-3 days) to have an apartment secured? We do have friends in the area we could stay with temporarily.
5 AnswersRenting & Real Estate7 years agoRecommend me a coffee better than Folgers?
Right now I buy Folgers Special Roast (described as Medium with "Enticing Aroma and Full Bodied Flavor"). I do like that, but I feel the need to upgrade for whatever reason. I also like Original Maxwell House. I bought a bag of Gevalia Colombia and I am not a fan. I can't describe it, but I guess it's just the flavor of Colombian coffee that I do not like at all. After that mistake and waste of money, I'd like some recommendations from more experienced coffee drinkers. I've only been drinking it for a little over a year now. I want something that I could pick up while grocery shopping and hope to pay no more than $7-8 a bag. I use a refillable K-Cup with my Keurig brewer and drink it with flavored creamer.
7 AnswersNon-Alcoholic Drinks7 years agoWhat are your drinking habits?
How often do you drink?
How often do you think about alcohol?
Can you stop at just one drink?
I'm 20, and I've been drinking at least once a month since I was 13. If there is alcohol in my home, I always am tempted to make a drink. It's a daily debate for me mentally. I'm no alcoholic; I function just fine without alcohol, but I always want it. I drink 1-2 times a week lately. Is this normal for someone my age, or someone not my age? It makes me nervous because my family does have a history of alcoholism. I live with my husband on the opposite side of the country from the rest of my family, so it's not like I'm sneaking around to drink. I always have the option to drink. It just worries me that I always have the desire to drink.
I feel like when I'm about 30 with kids, I won't be the kind of person that can have a glass of wine with dinner. I'm going to want at least 3 glasses of wine if I have one, because that's how I am now. I can't just have a buzz. I'd rather be sober than have just one glass, because that is just a tease.
Do I have an abnormal attraction to alcohol?
10 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits7 years agoMysterious body pains?
I am a 20 year old female in overall great health. The only issue I have is these mysterious body pains I get sporadically once a month or so. I originally thought it was low blood sugar, since symptoms are similar, but food seems to have no effect on it. I just got one right after I finished eating, other times I will eat right after it occurs and it doesn't help. Nothing seems to help.
Symptoms are shakiness, low energy, and lots of pain when I try to move around, and hot flashes. It lasts for around 30 minutes when they occur, and like I said, no cause I can detect, nothing seems to help, it doesn't happen on a regular basis, and I am in great health otherwise.
Any ideas? I don't want to go to the doctor for something that happens so rarely, but it is extremely uncomfortable when it does happen and a little worrisome. Do you think it's worth going to the doctor over?
3 AnswersOther - Health7 years agoTaking out a vehicle loan just to build credit?
My husband will be buying a motorcycle soon. We have the cash to buy it in full (it will be less than $5000), but is it a smarter move to buy it on a loan? We would want to pay the loan off fairly quickly to avoid excessive interest building up. We paid off a car loan last summer that had an interest rate of 8%. I hope to have a much better deal on the next loan, but I haven't checked yet. What is our best option?
4 AnswersCredit7 years agoAverage length of Marine Corps medical board?
My husband was recently told by his doctor that if his symptoms didn't improve in the next month with new medication, he would start his paperwork on a medical discharge. How long does that sorta thing usually take to be completely finished? How soon in should we learn his new EAS and how long should it take the board to review his case before they make a decision? He is a Lcpl 0311 who developed breathing issues from burn pits in Afghanistan. I've done research and realize there is a long range of possibilities as far as the length, but what kind of scenarios have you witnessed or experienced?
1 AnswerMilitary7 years agoWhat do you think of my puppy names?
The one on the bottom is right over a year old now. Her name is Molly. We're getting the younger one on the top tomorrow. We're planning on naming her Skye. Do you like these, or what else would you suggest for the new puppy? We don't want them to rhyme, because that would confuse them.
We like Skye because her color is called "Blue Merle" :)
1 AnswerDogs7 years agoVegetarians: What did you eat today?
I've been a vegetarian for nearly 8 years, but I'm slightly ashamed of how boring my diet is. I've only lived out of my parents house for about 1.5 years, but I feel like I should have broadened my horizons little more.
So tell me, what did your meals consist of today? Or if they were pretty basic, lie to me and just give me a suggestive meal plan for the day.
I do prefer simple recipes. Single servings, or even larger ones that will keep for a few days are preferred. I have a meat eating husband, so if you can throw in a meal or two that I could add chicken or ground beef too, I'd love that. Thanks!
10 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan7 years agoDenver/Colorado Springs relocation?
My husband and I are considering relocating to Colorado for a few years to do school and explore a little after he gets out of the military and before we settle down back in Virginia with family. We're 20 and 22, no kids. He likes outdoors, I like nightlife and access to shopping anywhere I could desire. I've done extensive research on schools for me, and finally found a Medical Lab Tech program in Denver at Arapahoe CC. He wants to do a bachelors in Computer Science, and has multiple options for school (although it does look like university of colorado colorado springs might be the best option). We had originally decided on Colorado Springs because he has friends there, but it looks like Denver is my only option for school.
Is it at all reasonable to live in between Colorado Springs and Denver and both commute 30 mins to school? Are there any established towns in between the two (I'm not seeing much come up on maps)? If I was to convince him to live in the Denver area, are there any suburbs outside of the city you could recommend that aren't too crowded, not overly expensive (~$1000 rent), and low crime rate?
ALSO, what kind of transportation will we need? I have a 2 wheel drive, 4 cylinder 2009 Toyota Corolla, and we'll need to purchase a second vehicle after arriving there. We were looking into motorcycles. Is that at all viable in the geography/climate of the areas? Also, how will my car work out there? We could get a 4WD truck if necessary, but the motorcycle will be easier financially.
Thanks for the help everyone! Open to any advice you have!
3 AnswersDenver7 years agoWhat to name my puppy's sister?
Right now my husband and I have one Mini Aussie, Molly, a red tri. After Christmas, we're planning to get a second, but can't decide on a name. We want it to start with an M, and don't want it to be too similar to Molly so they don't get confused. I like Maci, he likes Misty, and neither of us can agree on one. Our next puppy is either going to be a black tri or a blue merle. Thanks!
Pictures of similiar dogs:
Looks a lot like Molly, but she's smaller https://www.google.com/search?q=red+tri+mini+aussi...
Blue Merle http://www.ashlandaussies.com/nbmf.jpg
The black tri would look like the red tri, but black, white and copper colored.
4 AnswersDogs8 years agoOnly interested in 2 AFSCs? Medical?
I've been considering joining the Air Force for training to use in a civilian job and the travel potential. I've done some research, and I keep hearing to be open to several jobs, but I've looked through the options and I'm really only open to two of them:
Medical Laboratory Specialist, 4T0X1
Diagnostic Imaging, 4R0X1
These are each careers I would be interested in in the civilian world, and each offer 80-some college credits. If I'm only willing to enlist with these two, how long do you think my wait would be for a slot? I'm in no huge rush. I tried to email the local recruiter about it, but he hasn't gotten back to me. I plan on starting the enlistment process in late 2014, after moving home after my husband's Marine Corps contract is up.
Also, does anyone have any experience or information about these jobs?
1 AnswerMilitary8 years agoCredit Card: Signing up for sign-on bonus then never using again?
I was about to check out on Amazon, then at the top of the page, I saw an advertisement for signing up for their Visa and getting a $50 gift card automatically posted to your account. That would help out a ton with Christmas shopping. My husband and I are young, we have no debt, don't have a credit card, don't ever plan on using one.
Is there any penalty to signing up for this card for the $50 and never using it on a purchase? I would assume most people wouldn't know specifics about this certain card, but with credit cards in general, that's no problem, right?
here are the details if you'd like to look through them
2 AnswersCredit8 years agoCollege classes as refresher before ASVAB?
In the next 2 or 3 years, I plan on joining the Air Force. I'm only interested in the medical enlisted field, specifically Diagnostic Imaging. I've always been good with math and science, but what college courses should I take in the meantime to boost my ASVAB results? I'm no idiot, but I'm not a genius either. I tested into advanced algebra during my college placement exams (above average result) and completely out of english requirements. Do you think I have anything to worry about? The mechanical portion of the test (or whatever it's called) isn't something I feel very confident about, but will that matter if I'm looking towards medical? How long ahead of enlisting can I take the ASVAB for the results to still be applicable?
2 AnswersMilitary8 years agoLeaving the Air Force with an Associates Degree?
I've been looking into joining the Air Force a little bit and I've gotten the impression that all Airmen leave the Air Force with an Associates Degree relative to their MOS from the Community College of the Air Force. Is this correct? I could serve a 4 year contract and receive an associates degree? This is what was listed at the bottom of the page of the career I think I'm interested in, Diagnostic Imaging.
College degree earned: Nuclear Medicine Technology
College credits earned: 82
