  • are there any online maps (of the UK) where you can zoom out without footpaths disappearing?

I want to plan a route from Swansea in Wales to Edinburgh, but doing this when looking at sections just a couple of miles across is impossible, but when I zoom out, all footpaths disappear. Which would be great if I wanted to drive or walk along roads, but I don't.

  • Where can I find a map of the UK with footpaths (not roads) shown?

A few years ago I found a great website that showed footpaths on a map of the whole of the UK (not roads). Now I can't find it. Anyone know that website or a similar one?

  • Using a press release to get even?

I have been having an ongoing battle with a company for a year and a half. Basically they have decided it's finished and I should give up. They know I don't have tens of thousands of dollars to take them to court.

So can I use a press release to tell my side of the story? Is this something that is done?

It doesn't matter for now whether you guess my story is newsworthy or not. Do people who have suffered injustice and cannot afford legal help, do they use press releases to get their side of the story out and perhaps get back at the company, get a little revenge and get it out inot the public sphere how that company might have behaved wrongly?

  • Any mistakes in this Spanish?

I used google translate and then tried to improve it myself (with my bad Spanish)

"No mucho, señor. Yo sólo les dije: 'Yo soy el chófer de Stalin y yo maté al cerdo.' "

  • How do you face the end of life?

If your life has been a failure, if everything you tried failed, if all your experiences just made you increasingly bitter, if you've ended up alone, childless, loveless, and with no friends, and then you're told that you're going to die, how do you face the end of life?

  • How can I best promote my bedtime storybook for children?

It's called "A Month of Bedtime Stories" and it's suitable for 5- to 12-year-olds. A lady at work read some to her 7-year-old daughter (without mentioning that she works with the author) and her daughter immediately cast aside her Harry Potter books and demanded to be read more of my book instead. So it seems that my book isn't a total load of old cobblers, but how can I promote it? Would it be a good idea, do you think, to mention it in online forums or on websites such as yahoo answers? Should I perhaps ask a question on yahoo answers and surreptitiously mention the title of my book in the hope that people will navigate to the amazon site and search for my book? Do you think that would work?

  • Can I briefly use Spiderman and the Hulk as characters in a story?

I'm writing a children's story. There is a tiny scene where the hero of the story finds Spiderman fighting with the Hulk. They have a brief 5-line conversation then disappear from the story. Would that be allowable under copyright law? If not, would there be any point contacting Marvel to seek permission?

  • My mother died and my father is keeping the money?

    My mother recently died.

Earlier this year she told me she wanted to leave me all her money (not much - £4000) and she was desparate that my father didn't get hold of any of it. He is 85 and has a comfortable life in a 3-bedroomed house. My sister will get some very valuable jewellery which belonged to my grandmother and she is also very comfortable with several properties. I get on well with my sister and I don't begrudge her anything.

At the time I felt uncomfortable about helping my mother write such a will and I asked her to ask someone else to help her do so. I suggested my sister. I didn't want to plant any seed in her mind that might make her think later that I loved her for any reason other than herself. I thought if I helped her write such a will, she might have such doubts at a later time.

After her death it seems there is no will. Also her bank book was missing from the usual place, and it took my father three days to find it. From what he has said, it's clear that he sees the money as being his.

I have always had a difficult relationship with my father. My mother said that "if he gets his hands on it, there won't be anything left for anyone else" and it's no surprise that she's been proved right.

I feel sad for 2 reasons. One is self-interest - the money would have been very useful to me. I always tried to present an image to her that I was doing all right, but in fact I'm struggling, and I think perhaps she knew that. Two, she was poor, she scrimped and saved to get just that small sum together, and I feel sad that all her efforts end up with the money going to the one person she didn't want it to go to. She was actually quite agitated at the thought of it. (He first idea was for me to simply take her bank card and withdraw the money bit by bit from the ATM machine.)

My question is, should I just accept this and mark it down as a lesson learned, or should I raise the subject with my father? My mother also had a difficult relationship with my father, but I would be surprised if she never mentioned this subject to him. It's possible she also mentioned it to my sister.

  • Why are North Korean leaders allowed to torture their citizens?

If I lived next to a family, and the father regualrly raped his wife, mutilated his daughter and starved his son, I would be arrested if I didn't report this to the police. And yet, the leaders of North Korea enslave, torture, mutilate and execute millions of its citizens, and korea is invited to join the UN. Why aren't we bombing the f@ckers and freeing the people from decades of living hell?

  • finding a random string of characters using word's find and replace?

If I have some text in word, such as below:

    *********************************

    TRUE ksjdgh;kjdfgh[fdoihu#fgkfjb'glkbjglkb FALSE

    Hello.

    TRUE dfjhsdljhgdsaf;jkghdf;kjgvhd;fkjgh;dsfjcmnvsdvbd FALSE

    How are you?

Say I want to delete all the stuff between "TRUE" and "FALSE" to just leave the text "Hello. How are you?, is there a way to do this using word's find and replace function. If so, how would you do it?

I'm imagining something like find "TRUE $ FALSE" where $ might mean any group of characters.

    Thanks

  • In what format are subtitle files saved for feature film dvds?

This is a multi-part question. Many thanks if you could read to the end before answering...

A Chinese film is made, then it goes into the editing suite where Chinese and English subtitles are burned onto the film with correct timing, font, etc.

The software used could be Final Cut, Premiere, Sony Vegas, whatever...

Would there be an exportable subtitle file that could be edited by someone elsewhere, sent back to the editing suite to be put back onto the video?

If so, what format/file extension would the subtitles be?

If so, would the format depend on the software used? In other words, if the editing suite uses Final Cut, but someone wanted to edit the subtitle file on a Windows machine (i.e. not using Final Cut because it's Mac-only software) would that be possible?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

  • Chords for a song - Why would this question be deleted by yahoo?

I know you can't post external links on YA so I didn't, but they still delete it. They've deleted it 3 times now. Kind of annoying. You can understand why Yahoo Inc has pretty much imploded in the past 10 years

    *****************************

Can you help me work out the chords to this song?

I've worked out some (see below) - can you finish it?

I'm not allowed to post a link, but you can see the song if you search google video for "David Kitt Sleep Comes Tomorrow"

    ******************************

an "Amin" shape at the 6th fret (with an e and an f note)

    Sleep comes tomorrow,

    G....... F...... Amin shape 6th fret

    water wets my toes

    Sun sings to me low,

    watch the rain that grows

    C...........

One day outside, young and the faces way up high

    C............

One day outside, young and the faces way up high

  • Chords for a song - Why would this question be deleted by yahoo?

I've asked a question four times and it's been deleted four times.

The question was, can you help me work out the chords to a song?

The first two times I put an external link, then I learned that you can't put external links in YA for some reason.

So the second two times I just named the song.

Why would that question be deleted?

PS - it's not a famous song, so there are no chords available elsewhere online.

I would name the song here, but maybe naming songs is banned (???)

It would be nice if YA gave reasons for deleting questions instead of simply mentioning community guidelines, which doesn't mention anything about naming songs being against the rules.
