  • What rights do I have over my 16 year old's baby?

I have spent hours looking online for information dealing with grandparents rights when dealing with a minor, and I can't find what I need. We are having issues with "the baby daddy's momma" for lack of a better term, lol, and I want to educate myself on when to put my foot down.

    Background info:

My daughter is 16. Her boyfriend is 21. They both live with me, as well as the new bundle of joy. The boyfriend works every day and financially provides the best he can for his new family, and I supplement financial help when needed. My daughter will be a senior next year and plans to attend college in the fall. The baby is now 3 weeks old. We live in the state of Alabama. My husband and I both are married, in the same household, etc.

The woman, who would be my daughter's mother in law if they were married, is a control freak, who has been rather mentally abusive to the baby's daddy growing up, in my opinion. She has it in her mind that we should share the new baby with her 50/50, as in, the kids stay with her half the time, and stay with me the other half. She has bought everything needed for a baby at her own house, not offering to help us here. She even got mad at the hospital and left after she begged to feed the baby it's first bottle and my daughter spoke up and wanted to instead. We've already had a verbal confrontation after she had my daughter in tears over the phone, when discussing why she didn't feel up to staying the weekend at her house 3 days after they both came home from the hospital! This has GOT to stop. It's not fair to anyone, especially the baby. I do appreciate the fact that she wants to be a part of the baby's life, and I can sympathize with her wanting more time being a grandma. But the simple fact is, this is my house, my daughter is only 16 and still wants to continue school, and she is an excellent mother with or without my help. The daddy is doing a great job as well, and seems happy living here with us. So my question is, what rights do I have to be able to say no to some of the things the woman wants/suggests/does? My daughter is slowly learning to voice her opinions to this woman, but she still bites her tongue- considering she was raised to respect her elders, etc., so I feel I may need to step in. Any advice, suggestions, would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • Anyone familiar with Vista Backup/Restore?

    I am stumped.

Yesterday I accidentally unplugged my desktop computer (HP/Vista Home Premium). When I plugged it back up and turned it on, Window's wouldn't load; Unfortunately I didn't write down the message I got but it was something about needing some kind of device, that it didn't have. After tinkering around with a few keys, I was able to load Windows, but immediately saw the "safe to remove hardware" icon in the task bar, and there it showed 2 things: A wireless adapter, and usb mass storage device. What in the world? I didn't have anything different plugged in anywhere! I don't use anything wireless; I use a modem.

Also, it immediatelyly threw up a message that my disk was low (my Recovery disk). When I went to look at "My Computer" my entire Recovery drive was completely red (used).

I tried to do a restore and it wouldn't let me (error simply said "a restore could not be done" with no explanation). I tried to do currant backup and it couldn't, said there was not enough space for a backup (well duh). I even adjusted my backup settings several times (un-checking the boxes of what I wanted backed up ie., music, pictures, etc.) and it STILL wouldn't backup.

All of this because my system got unplugged? It was working perfectly before then. Can I totally erase what is on my Recovery drive and start over? Why do I now have 2 pieces of hardware "that can be removed safely"?

    Recap:

    *Vista shut down accidentally

*Windows didn't want to load without a certain device upon rebooting

*Safely remove hardware icon shows 2 things...for no apparent reason

*Recovery disk completely full now and Restore won't work

*Backup won't work because disk is full

*No new programs were loaded before hand, Defragged both drives, used scan disk on both drives, ran Nortons, checked hardware profile, everything is completely normal. HELP!

  • Survey for highschool students and/or recently graduated

I work with students who have gotten in trouble for various reasons and have been given In School Suspension. I know that copying pages out of the dictionary, or answering "role playing" questions dealing with fighting or skipping school etc. is probably not going to influence the student(s) in a positive way; it basically is "busy work". My question then would be, what would be the best way to positively influence a student with behavior issues? Maybe asking them to write an essay on what they plan to do after graduation? (Gets them to focus on what they want to be in the future, goals etc.). Or, possibly have them jot down 50 good qualities about themselves that they are proud of (Promoting self esteem). I just need - from a students point of view- ideas on what would actually "sink in".....to get these students out of ISS and back in the classroom, on the right track.

It's hard being a teen. And I feel like their opinion would be very useful. SERIOUS SUGGESTIONS ONLY PLEASE :)

  • Yahoo Messenger 9.0 beta - it hangs at 100% installation...?

While trying to download and install version 9.0 beta, it stalled at 100%. My computer showed that I was still having heavy network usage (as if it was still downloading) but I let it sit for an hour at 100% completed and it still wouldn't install. When I tried to X-out of it, it was hung and I had to use task manager to end process. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Information on syncing an ipod (nano)?

I needed to restate my question again, in a different way. Here is a pop up message I get when I plug my ipod into my brand new computer:

["The ipod "Molly's ipod" is synced with another itunes library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this itunes library? An ipod can be synced with only one itunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the conents of this ipod with the contents of this library."] Then my options are to either "erase and sync" or "cancel". Erase???

My (currant) itunes library only has about 10 songs on it that I have bought through the apple store. My ipod, however, has about 500 songs that I imported off my old computer from various older download sites. I can't add any new songs from my itunes unil i sync the ipod with the new system.

*I have enabled manual sync - was no difference

*I have already authorized that new computer system

*I have tried to get my old songs off the ipod and save them to my new hard drive but it won't work

    HELP!

  • How can I get songs off my ipod nano?

I got an ipod nano and put all the music off my computer on it (at least 500 songs). Most were files downloaded years ago from napster, limewire, etc...and only a few were actually bought from the ipod store. Well, my computer died. After getting a new system, redownloading the ipod software and adding the new computer to my account, it tells me I have to "sync" to the new library, which only holds the recently purchased songs. It wants to erase all contents on my ipod or I can't add new songs! I depend on dial up and don't have the time or money to replace all those hours of downloaded music. I tried to download a program called floola but the website is down. I'm not even sure if that program will even help me or not. Does anyone out here know how in the world I can add songs to my nano without erasing the contents? If there were some way to get the songs off and then reinstall, that would be a blessing!!!

  • How can you get cooking grease off your walls when it seems soaked in?

My daughter slung hot burned grease on my diningroom wall. The paint on the wall is the flat wall paint-type, it's dull and almost chalky. To make matters worse, it's a custom color of paint I was told. I used Dawn dishwashing liquid and hot water but it didn't seem to touch the problem. Any ideas? We just bought this house 4 months ago!

  • How do you propagate bamboo?

We have tons of wild bamboo growing in the back yard and I want some in pots as decoration inside. How do you replant from a mother stalk? The roots, from what I've seen, are nearly impossible to pull up/yank. There has got to be an easier way!

And by the way, most links I click are firewalled (work computer), so if someone knows right off the top of their head, I'd be greatful....

  • What kind of plants/shrubs have shallow roots that will grow over concrete that's 8 inches deep?

We just bought a house, and to my horror, when I went to plant the azelea's I just purchased, I discovered a concrete slab about 8-10 inches under the dirt. It is the "brace" for the fireplace so I can't have it removed. I want to landscape the entire front of the house and the spot where the concrete is will be bare and ugly unless I can find something that will actually grow there without harm.

  • Yahoo messenger bots, holes and hacks??

You know how when one of your buddies logs in or out, it will flash a notification on the right hand side of the task bar? Ok, my problem is that apparently my screen name ends up being notified on many random "non-buddy" taskbars as logging in or out. I have at least 2 instant messages a day from guys I have never heard of asking me ASL. Upon asking how they got my screen name I am told they saw me log on, or either they saw me in a yahoo chat room....(I don't use yahoo chat rooms). How can this happen if I am not on their buddy list? I knew you used to could boot folks from messenger, and I have heard of bots, and I can't but wonder if someone is using my screen name as a bot while I am online. This has been going on for about a year. I have noticed this though, I mostly get the strange i.m.'s after I have been idle for a bit...as if somehow being idle for a long time throws my screen name out there as "just signing in". Anyone who can give me more info, I'd surely appreciate it.

  • Anyone noticed freak messages from people who are not on their buddy lists?

For some reason, something out there is causing my yahoo screen name to pop up on other people's (strangers) screen, as if I'm logging in or out. I can have my messenger on for two hours straight, for example, and all of the sudden I will get instant messages from all these different people I have never heard of before, asking me "Asl?". When I ask them how they got my screen name, they always say they saw it log on in the bottom right of their screen. They always think I must be a lost net buddy or something and don't question it.

It's getting old. How can perfect strangers (that have not added me to their buddy list) see me log off and on, especially if I have been on for hours, not even logging off and on, at all?? If anyone else has ever had this problem, or knows how to fix it, please let me know. I am tired of answering a thousand "asl??" questions a day! lol

  • If a guy wanted to breakup with his girl, would he lie to her and tell her he slept w/ someone else?

I have heard how men lie if they are "caught" cheating, and try to get out of it. But I have never heard of a guy lying saying he "accidentally" cheated, when he really didn't; he just wanted to the girl to walk away. He saw no future in the relationship but was too weak to walk away himself. So he figured if he told her he was with someone else, that she would be furious, and break things off.

How many guys here would do something like that? If not, why? Yes, this is what I was told not long ago, that the guy I dated for 5 yrs "accidentally" spent the night with someone else a few weeks ago. He tried coming clean last night, and told me it was all just a big lie. He just didn't have the heart to end things, and thought it would be easier lying to be about it. Am I being suckered?

  • Anyone out there know anything about the cheat codes for the Sims1? preferably the "move_objects" code.

I have Sims (1) Deluxe edition, running XP. On the 6th neighborhood, the biggest (most expensive lot) I always have guests who come over and end up stuck for no reason, inside, and outside the house. Yes I have moved chairs, walls etc., around hopeing they would move. I can't even click on the guests. Once I used the cheat code "move_object on" or so I thought. It keeps telling me I an using the wrong parameter. HELP! Otherwise I have to move out of the house and rebuy it which will take hours to refurnish. Anyone know what kind of bug this is and how I can keep it from happening? Otherwise, my friends/guests all die right there in that one spot. Thanks!

  • Whats an appropriate gift for my secret pal, for her wedd. anniversary, (shes a coworker)..?

For those that don't know, a Secret Pal program is where you draw names to pick a pal and secretly give them little gifts throughout the year. It could be a coworker, friends at church, etc. My pal happens to be an older lady who has been married for quite a few years. Any ideas other than a resturant gift card?

  • My 12 yr old daughter thinks I am "destroying" her life. Her attitude is bad, do I get more firm, or more nice

Seems the more I tuffin up, the worse her attitude is with me. There is no respect what so ever, and her father is close but NOT in the household. I can handle the notion that kids will be kids. But I can not handle the disrespect. Do I show her more compassion? Or keep it tuff and stand my ground? As of now she gets a privlege taken away with each time she yells or smarts off. Thanks for the input!
