I'm a teacher living in Britain. I like visiting Yahoo Answers to help others, and smile at the often bizarre questions asked!

  • While repairing scratch, primer dribbled. How can I remove it?

While touching up a scratch on my black car, some of the primer from my brush dribbled down the side of my car. I tried to wipe it off with a dry cloth but now it is a smudge. Is there any way I can remove this primer paint smudge mark without damaging the paint underneath?

  • 'When I look in your eyes' by Outkast - any great similar songs?

I love the style of Outkast's 'When I look in your eyes' song (currently the soundtrack for the Ford C-Max adverts on telly). Can anyone suggest artists that produce a similar style of song? What type of song is it? Is it jazz?

  • Why does the Mayor of London logo have 'ON' highlighted??

This really bugs me. Around London, wherever the name of the city is written, the 'on' at the end are highlighted in a different colour. What's with this? What does 'ON' mean?? Is it one of those stupid corporate ideas that mean nothing?

  • London Underground colour coding?

While travelling on the London Underground recently I noticed that the poles inside the carriages (which commuters hold onto) are the same colour as the line the train is on (red poles for the red central line, for example). When I mentioned this to someone they told me that originally the actual tunnels were also lit with the colour of the line (green lighting for the green district line). Is this true? Why was it abandoned?

  • Are car companies the laziest organisations ever?!?

The motorcar has been around for 100 years, yet it doesn't really strike me as showing 100 years progress. It still basically comes down to the driver sitting on the chassis holding a wheel as a controlled explosion occurs, driving the wheels forward, and emitting smoke out the back. All car companies have done is dress the car up with more modern bodywork and gadgets inside. Why have car companies been so lazy? Or has car design advanced more than I am aware?

  • Oh I wish my phone company was in breach of contract?

I have a contract mobile phone. Trouble is, the reception is rubbish in my area. I signed the contact agreeing to pay bills, and other stuff. Surely, by entering into a contractual agreement, the phone company are oblidged to provide an acceptable service in return for payment? So, as their coverage is not sufficient in my area (East London), surely they are in breach of contract?!

I know this is probably wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be great if that was true!!! Is there any truth in this? Do consumers threaten to sue companies for breach of contract?

  • Where's the catch with this laptop spec?

    Check out this laptop:

    http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-0838.aspx

Is there a catch to this deal? It seems very cheap, but the components seem pretty good (though not cutting edge).

I don't want to play the latest 3D games on the laptop, so is this a good laptop for other tasks?

And does it have a glossy screen? That is one of my buying criteria.

  • Laptop is slow to refresh screen?

Sometimes, when I'm working on a few programs at once and then decide to minimise the windows open, the windows minimise in a weird way. Instead of quickly minimising down to the taskbar, they kind of slowly 'wipe' downwards, if that makes sense. I asssume this is because I have only 256MB of RAM - could this be the case? My laptop is a Pentium-M 1.6MHz system with 128MB ATI Graphics card.

  • Doing a history degree as a mature student!?

One of my great regrets is not doing History for GCSE, A-level and degree level. I am now 25 with a science degree and I am pondering how I could go about doing a history degree. Is it possible to do this, and what requirements are there (such as first doing an evening course A-level, perhaps)? I want to do it purely as I am interested in the subject!

  • Hide/show Windows XP speech bubbles?

Everytime a network is detected, the battery runs low, or something else a little yellow speech bubble appears at the bottom right of the desktop. A few weeks ago I learnt how altering a value in the registry could disable them, but now I want them back! Can anyone remind me how to enable them again through the registry?

  • Does driving in 2nd and 4th gear save petrol?

I read somewhere that the British police drive their cars mainly in 2nd and 4th gears to keep fuel consumption down. Is this true, and does it work? Does it shorten the life span of the gear box or any other part of the car? Is it a good idea for regular motorists who want to save petrol?

  • Milk makes me ill - but why?!?

All my life I've drunk milk and never felt ill. But, since moving away from home, whenever I drink milk in the evening I wake up the next morning and I am ill (not throwing up, but having to use the toilet). The brand of milk is the same as I've always drunk, and I store the milk in the fridge as soon as I buy it. What could be causing this? When I go back to my parents' house I can drink milk without getting ill!! Could it be related to me living in a different county? Could the milk produced in this county be different?

  • Can satellite see through clouds?

I'm watching the film Enemy of the State and the bad guys are using satellites to track the good guys as they move around on the ground. Can satellites see the ground when the sky is cloudy? Are there really enough satellites in orbit to allow instantaneous surveilence of anywhere in the world?

  • Emmigrating to Australia - the points system?

I am considering moving from Britain to Australia for a year, maybe more if I like it. I've heard that Australia operates a points system where they let you into the country if your total points exceed a certain number. Is there anywhere on the internet where I can enter in my details and find out how many points I currently have?

I am a teacher and 25, so hopefully those nice Aussies will let me in!!
