I am a Priest with the American Old Catholic Church. Our denomination is independant from the Roman Catholic Church. Consequently, I am married and have three children. I will be happy to answer questions regarding Catholicism in particular and Old Catholics in general.
Why is it easier to believe the universe is just an accident rather than the work of an intelligent designer?
The odds of the “primordial ooze” being able to spawn even one life form are beyond imagination, let alone being responsible for the multitudes of creatures that have inhabited our planet. Ok let’s say that one complex life form was able to creep out of the ooze, what are the odds of two? How about two with the ability to reproduce and find food for sustenance? The odds are too high for me to fathom!
The “Big Bang” theory is actually not at odds with contemporary Catholic theology. However, if there was a “Big Bang” there had to be a Big Banger – or intelligent causality! If there were a Big Bang, where did the substance come from that exploded into the cosmos as we know it? Catholic theology explains that God created Ex Nihilo, a Latin phrase meaning "out of nothing."
Catholics believe that the Genesis story of creation was written as a means for our ancient forefathers to understand God’s roll in cosmology.
45 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoFreedom of Speech for Christians too!?
Considering that freedom of speech is one of our rights as spelled out in the "Bill of Rights" of the US Constitution; why are Christians being told that they don't have a right to speak out regarding their political views?
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoMoral Relativism vs. Moral Absolutism?
A poll for Catholics and Christians only please...
Today's culture is widely driven by a changing moral code that says something to the effect of; "Just because you think it is wrong does not mean it is wrong for me." This is an example of moral relativism.
Historically, Christians of most flavors, followed a code that would say that there are moral absolutes. Right and wrong seemed fairly cut and dry. For Christians it was clear that the bible gave us guidelines for moral living.
These days questions such as the murder of unborn children, adultery, homosexuality are seen as gray areas by many in the Church. Are there no more moral absolutes?
The liberal homosexual agenda would have you believe that it is good for a marriage to end in divorce because one spouse realized he or she were gay -- this just "celebrates their sexuality." Planned Parenthood would have us believe that an unborn child is nothing more than worthless tissue. Christians have traditionally believed that all life is God-given, beginning at conception, and that terminating an "unwanted" pregnancy is equivalent to murder.
My question for you today is; Do you as a Christian believe in Moral Relativism or Moral Absolutism? What are your thoughts?
Kindest regards,
Fr. Michael Callahan
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoI've heard talk on the internet about Car sharing and fractional ownership. Can anyone tell me about this?
Are car sharing clubs similar to time-shares for condos where you get so many days a year? Or, are they just glorified rental agencies? If they are similar to time sharing do you also develop equity? If not, whats the point?
