I'm a married SAHM. I breastfed both of my babies. My 3-yr-old son is still nursing. I believe in child-led weaning. I am a strong supporter of breastfeeding and a LLL member. I like to help educate people interested in learning more about nursing or having trouble with it and needing support. I welcome emails. If I don't have the answers you need, I will do my best to try to help you find them!

  • How to accept donations on a website?

How do I go about setting up a place where friends and family can donate money for my daughter's schooling online? Can I use my Facebook, Yahoo 360, or MySpace pages? Or is that against the rules? Can I use Paypal somehow? Help?!

  • How to get my son (2-1/2) to wear underpants??

He's potty training very well, having very few accidents. I can get him to wear a pull-up, but for some reason he just doesn't want to transition into underpants. I'm not sure what the problem is, and I don't want to push him and make it a negative experience. Anyone else ever deal with this? Any ideas? Bribery isn't working. Cute underwear isn't working. They're soft and comfy.

  • What is the difference between Flickr and Photobucket?

I've been asking around, and it seems that these are the two most popular choices for photo sharing. But how do I choose between the two? What are some differences?

  • What is the best website for sharing photos?

I haven't really used one before, but I know there are a lot out there. I don't want to pay anything, and I want other people to have the option of buying photos or just printing or saving them. The pictures are in digital form, from my digital camera.

  • Where to go with a gifted child?

I am concerned about meeting the needs of my daughter, who is turning four in June. She has been reading since last September and is already reading at a 2nd-3rd grade level, and I have been told that she is drawing at a 1st-2nd grade level. There is no four-year-old kindergarten in our area except for a private school. I'd love to send her there, but it's expensive. Where do I go with this child? Is there somewhere else I can look for financial aid besides the school (which has only offered minimal help)? The school district isn't any help at all. I'm afraid if I don't get her into school this fall she might lose interest or get bored. I want to make sure I nurture this ability of hers instead of wasting it! Any ideas? Who do I call?

  • Forrie or Forie for Forrest?

My son's full name is Forrest, and we're debating within the family whether to spell his nickname "Forie" or "Forrie". His great-grandfather spelled it with one "r", but his grandfather spells it with two. Anyone out there named Forrest or know someone named Forrest who can help us along? Which is more common? Which is phonetically correct? Or which do you like best?

  • Green Bay or Dallas?

I'm a huge Packers fan, so of course I want them to win, but I don't know much about Dallas or their team. Who do you think will win on Thursday, and why?

  • Will Packers/Cowboys game be better to watch on NFL network or local?

I am fortunate enough to get to choose whether to watch the Packers/Cowboys game on the NFL network or on Channel 12 (local) network. Does anyone know how the broadcasting from the NFL network is? Is it better than local broadcasting? Which channel should I watch the game on?

  • HOMESCHOOLERS: How do you get started?!?

I'd like to homeschool my daughter for pre-school (and possibly beyond). The problem is I'm so overwhelmed by the wealth of information and resources out there that I just don't even know where to start! I am the kind of person who needs structure and so is my daughter, although I'm going to need a curriculum that I can tailor to her level (she's reading already, so learning the ABCs is a little too basic for her, but she may need more basic materials for other subjects). I'm also looking for Christian material. How do you go about getting started? How do you choose a curriculum, decide on your homeschooling "days" and "hours", and find local homeschooling groups? Anyone?!

Oh, and I'm in Wisconsin, if that helps!

  • Three year old afraid to poop on the potty?

I have a (computer illiterate) friend whose daughter is about to turn three years old and she is doing fantastic with the potty training. She stays dry all day long in panties and uses the big potty when they go out wherever they go. But the problem is that for some reason, this little girl will not poop in the potty. She holds it in all day until bedtime, when she poops in her pull-up. Her mom doesn't think it's a disobedience thing, but possibly some kind of fear or discomfort that's going on. What can she do to help her little girl overcome this obstacle? Could it hurt for her to hold it in all day until bedtime? She seems to go a lot at night and my friend is concerned about constipation. I suggested just not putting pull-ups on her anymore so that she didn't have anywhere else to go, but my friend is concerned about her daughter holding it in so long that she gets constipated. Any ideas?

  • How to help 3-yr-old overcome fear of public toilets?

My 3-yr-old daughter is potty trained during the day at home, and will leave the house in panties and hold it while we are out. I haven't been able to get her to use a public toilet yet, such as at church or even at anyone else's house. How do I help her overcome this fear? I've heard of a little potty seat that folds up for travel for use on public toilets for little bottoms... would this work? Where would I find one?

  • Shampoo for a baby with eczema?

What shampoo do you use for your baby with eczema? My son is almost 20 months old and I searched high and low to find something without fragrance and couldn't find anything. Then I looked at the bottle I had been using before (which came from the hospital), and saw that it had fragrance in it, too! So apparently, it isn't fragrance-free that I'm looking for... what is good to use on a baby who has had problems with eczema on the scalp in the past?? Is hypo-allergenic enough?

  • What is the "average" age for reading, writing, and swimming?

What is the average range for children beginning to learn how to read (small words like "and" and "see"), writing letters, and swimming underwater while holding their breath? Or when did your kids do these things? Just trying to get a basic idea!

  • For those who have nursed beyond 18 months...??

When did your child stop nursing through the night? Did you night-wean him/her or did you let the child wean him/herself? If you night-weaned, how did you do it? And how long did you go on to nurse after the child was weaned at night?

My son still nurses several times per night at nearly 19 months old. I wouldn't have a problem with that except that I haven't had a good, full night's sleep in nearly four years (since before my daughter was born), and I'm beginning to grow impatient and I'm considering night-weaning. I don't want to push him to wean completely, though, and I'm hoping he'll continue nursing during the day until he is at least two, so I'm weighing the pros and cons of night-weaning and trying to decide if it's worth it. He already sleeps next to me in his crib for the first half of the night and then sleeps in bed with me after his first feeding and for the rest of the night. Any ideas?

  • Where to find padded training panties for potty-training toddlers?

I can't find them anywhere! I'm looking for the kind that is padded in the middle to help keep the mess off the floor when they have accidents. We have two pairs that were given to us and they are so far working great, but need a lot more! I couldn't find them at Wal-Mart. Any idea where I can find them???

  • In WI, can you be held responsible for your spouse's credit card debts, if incurred before marriage?

For example, say a woman in Wisconsin incurs some credit card debt when she is young and unmarried and does not pay the bill, and then later on gets married. Can her husband be held responsible for the bill if she is unemployed when the credit card company tries to sue her for the balance due? Can his wages be garnished? What can the credit card company do to collect their money if the woman is unemployed and has no other source of income besides her husband's?

  • What is a good way to clean the fabric softener dispenser on my washing machine?

I have the kind that is cylindrical in shape and attaches on top of the agitator in the middle of the washer. I do not have the instruction manual. I can't help but think there must be some neat little trick out there to get it all clean (it's kind of gunky and looks gross, especially around the opening that you pour the fabric softener into). I don't want to just experiment and end up putting something in it that I can't get out until it comes off on my clothes! Any ideas?? Thanks!

  • What can I add to ground beef to help hold the patties together?

I tried putting barbecue sauce in the meat to make burgers the other day. It tasted GREAT, but the patties fell apart into six or seven pieces with a piece of melted cheese on top. I've also had problems with just regular ground beef and nothing else added, and for some reason they fall apart on the grill. I'm squeezing them together, not just shaping them. It only works about 75% of the time. What am I doing wrong? Is it because I froze the meat and then thawed it? Would leaner meat work better? Is there something I can add to ground beef to help hold the meat together and keep them from falling apart?

  • What can I do to help my daughter's hair from drying out from swimming?

My daughter is three and we go swimming at the public pool every day. I usually use a no-tear baby shampoo when I wash her hair, but lately her hair has been looking a little dried out, I assume from the chlorine. What can I use on her hair that is really effective to help keep it healthy?
