  • My pipes are freezing and I'm not sure what to do... can anyone help?

    My husband turned off our water heater in an attempt to not have a fire - since we have no hot water. We tried to turn on the hot water this morning and there was nothing. We let the cold water run overnight to keep the pipes from freezing, but there is NO hot water.

    Its been around 10 degrees here for a day or two and its supposed to get even colder tonight and tomorrow. We have some exposed pipes in the attic we're going to insulate today, but we're not sure where anything is frozen. In the attic, the hot water pipe was hot... but downstairs, there was no hot water. So my husband turned off the hot water tank and we've been leaving the sinks on 1/2 hot and 1/2 cold to keep water running through them.

    I don't know what to do. I understand not wanting a fire and turning the tank off *since we suspect the inflow to that is frozen*, but I don't know what we should be doing next.

    We can't afford a plumber nor a busted pipe or water damage.

    Please help...
