  • At what age should I have "the talk"....?

I have 2 young boys and am wondering what the consensus (if any) is on what the best age is to have "the talk". My father & I never had that discussion, so I want to make sure I do it right for my sons.

  • Essential Black Metal recordings?

I'm a big fan of most all types of metal, but I have never seemed to be able to get into Black Metal at all. I've listened to a few songs from Satyricon, Emperor, and Nachtmystium and have been able to appreciate bits of it, but as a whole, it doesn't do much for me.

Can any real BM fans recommend 5 or 10 CDs that might help me, or maybe tell me what you really like about the music?

(My own tastes range from Nile to Meshuggah to Misery Signals to Isis to Mastodon to Gojira, etc.)

  • What's a good free music composition app for Macs?

I'm looking for a basic music composition app where you can enter notes on a staff and it will play back using the internal QuickTime MIDI synth sounds. I remember using something like that way back in the day on an SE.

Is there something similar for OS X?

Freeware is best, but shareware or full retail apps will work too, if the price is right.

  • What are some classic roots reggae albums/artists?

I really love the early Wailers records, and I'm looking for a similar sound. No electronic drums or synthesizers, just traditional instruments: drums, horns, bass, guitar, maybe some old school keyboards, like a clavinet. A more modern example might be John Brown's Body. Any suggestions?

  • How hard is it to replace a radiator on a 96 Honda Accord?

Is it something I can do myself with a Haynes Manual and some basic tools? I've done oil changes & brakes, but nothing as big an undertaking as a radiator.

  • Bassists: Anyone use DiMarzio "Split P" pickups on their bass?

I have an old P-bass copy that I have converted to fretless. I'm going to replace all the hardware & electronics, and would like some pickup recommendations. The Split P's look good, but I have never heard them. I am looking for a more modern, punchy sound than the tradtional P-bass pickups. Thanks!
