Why are some nationalisms more violent than others? ?
There are many nationalisms in the world across all sorts of cultures and religions. Why are some more violent than others?
Surely all nationalisms have followers with deep fervour but some manifest themselves. For instance, you haven't really had a Welsh nationalist version of the IRA, or the PLO.
Does it depend on how committed the adherents of the people's nationalism is? Or the characters of the nationalist movement's leaders?
History11 months agoDoes God ever punish/chastise someone for things in the present, for the sins they will do in the future? Is it in the Bible?
If God is outside of time, then has there been anywhere in the Bible where this has happened?
Is the situation of punishment/chastising/consequences of sin, ALWAYS cause-and-effect? Has there ever been a time, scenario, or instance where God has punished now for something the sinner will do in the future. ...
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality3 years agoName of Movie. Never saw ending, but can tell everything of the plot up until that point. I d love to find it again....!!?
The plot is basically about two sisters in the Wild West era, who must travel alone, but are pursued by Native Americans.
One important plot line is that during a chase, one sister escapes capture by the tribe by making her horse leap over a seemingly impossible ravine or canyon, importantly earning the respect from the Chief.
The sisters make a pledge to never allow each other to be captured by the tribe, and the free one must shoot the other.
One sister is eventually captured, but the free one fails to kill either the other sister or cause a distraction, and is also captured.
The tribe prepare to shoot them both with arrows, but the Chief recognises the brave sister and her exploits at the ravine and lets them both down.
Never saw the ending, but would love to know the name of the film, or if it was a TV series name!
1 AnswerMovies5 years agoWhy are conspiracy theories often American?
Why does the main conspiracy theories and their adherents come from America?
I'm not being in any way racist, or sarcastic, I'm genuinely wondering IF this is actually the case, and WHY.
My own theory is that the idea of freedom has been built into the American psyche, so anything that may look like the idea of any kind of freedom being obscured, or sensational back-door politics/personalities, is jumped upon.
Why is your view?

2 AnswersTrivia9 years agoWhite = good? Black = bad:?....racism and prejudice in colour?
I was discussing racism with an older friend, and they explained that with some people, a very simplistic mindset is often at the base of a complicated and difficult perception of skin colour and culture. It surprised me, as I hadn't considered it like this before. My friend said this:
People percieve (usually) white as "traditional" "transparent" "non-threatening", etc, while black is seen as (usually) opposite, "dark," "opaque" "unclear" " "non-transparent" "threatening."
At the base of such a mindset, this can apply to people's attitudes to others who are not like they are.
As I have said before, I have never heard this before, and I wanted to see you guys thought. Is the base of a mindset really like this, in such simplistic terms?
Thoughts?
(Please no racism. Offensive remarks will be flagged and reported. Keep it cool.
Peace.)

6 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups9 years agoThe British Redcoats...a bit of a pointless uniform?
I am refering to the traditional red coat uniforms that the British Imperialists wore. I have watched many films, and if the idea is to represent history on screen, surely the designers of the rather obviously non-camoflauge uniform would have known the British soldiers would have been seen a mile off, when they went to fight anywhere and would have been no use during esponairge missions, etc?
(Sorry for bad spelling!)
Does anyone know why the British army used to dress in red coats?
Where did this come from?
5 AnswersMilitary9 years agoWhat is so appealing about the far right in the UK?
....that people would vote for foreigners to be deported, immigration to be stopped, etc.
No hate speech please.
I just want to know what the appeal is to some people who follow the extreme right. Is it just the xenophobia which has an appeal? Or is it a cultural sense of "them and us"?
I'm probably not wording this very well, but hopefully it'll be more or less clear what I'm asking.

It seems like most actors out there are Lefties or Liberals. I haven't come across many that are actually Right-wing.
Does anyone know why this might be?

1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans1 decade agoWhat is the difference between a love scene in a film, and porn?
Strange question, I know, but I was wondering what the difference was. Both are acting out sex, but I wondered if in mainstream films (not porn) it was just making it look like the characters were engaging in sexual acts, but aren't at all.
Or is there no difference at all, and a love scene is just a low-key version of pornography?
