How do you cope when your cat has died?
My poor old cat who was in renal failure was put to sleep by the vet yesterday and I am devastated...I feel so, so guilty at letting him do it. Our six month old kitten seems to be fretting too although they always fought. How have other people coped in this situation ? My instinct was to get another cat straight away but it wouldn't be Matilda. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
23 AnswersCats1 decade agoIdeas on how to calm an aggressive kitten?
Our 13 week old kitten has gone from being cute to being a devil in a cat suit. Our vet says he cannot be neutred until he is 6 months but in the meantime as soon as he is told no or is removed from clawing walls (he has umpteen scratching posts & toys), he arches his back, bites and scratches. He will only let my daughter handle him, anyone else he goes for. We play with him often to try and get rid of some of his excess energy but it doesn't help.
We introduced him to our older cat gently as advised here, but unfortunately the same week we got him we found that our older cat has renal failure and is going downhill quickly. I don't know if the kitten senses this but he seems to have gone from being submissive to her, to trying to bully her. She does 'batter' him now and then but mostly tries to hide.
We are at our wits end, don't want to rehome him but we don't want Tilly to suffer being bullied....any help would be appreciated. Thankyou.
15 AnswersCats1 decade agoDoes anyone have experience caring for an unwell cat?
Our 13 yr old cat has rapidly been losing weight recently and has lost muscle volume from her hind legs. She's off her food and generally lethargic. Her pupils have become dilated no matter the light level and over the last few weeks has 'blacked out' a few times. Initially the vet thought she had food intolerance (!) but now we are awaiting blood results as it looks like either kidney failure or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Does anyone have experience of these conditions? I'm aware that they may not be curable but are there treatments that can let her live a long life?
8 AnswersCats1 decade agoWhat are clones and trolls ??
I just saw a question by Shadyback commenting on people answering 'clones'. I know I'm probably going to get some stick here...but this is a genuine question. What exactly is a clone (apart from the obvious like Dolly the sheep) and what is a troll ? How do you know it is a 'clones' question....I just answer questions that interest me and I have taken them at face value but I'm now thinking that may be naive.
8 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoHow do I introduce a new kitten to my old cat ?
We've never had a kitten before, our cat was 5 yrs old when we got her from a rescue centre. She is now 13 and somewhat 'cranky' and demanding. My sister's cat recently had kittens and she needed homes for them so we are taking one. Is there anything we should be doing to make it easy for our cat to adjust to the newcomer (or vice versa).
Second question ? How old should the kitten be when we have him innoculated, chipped and neutered ? Any help appreciated, thanks.
