  • Can anyone please suggest a song for me to sing at a competition?

My vocal quality is similar to Frank Sinatra or Matt Munro. My range is also similar from the D2 below middle C to G4 above (about 2.5 octaves). I want to take advantage of my natural richness of the voice. I don't have classical training but my voice is quite nimble within the range. Please help.

  • A question of meat. To eat or not to eat!?

Why do many God believing people - people who believe that God is a sympathetic, loving and sin forgiving entity and has suffered in various incarnations for man - think nothing of inflicting pain and cruelty in the

extreme to other creatures of the world? The convenience of "it is written so in scriptures" apart, does this contradiction ever strike any one so much as to force them to introspect? If all other creatures were made for the pleasures of the gourmand or the huntsman, one would assume that they would go to God quietly. But the lamb doesn't meekly become the chop! It cries, no, screams out, in pain and fear and flails around when the butcher lays his blade to its body (personally, I believe we will have far more vegetarians if only that obscenity is broadcast daily on "the breakfast show"). Neither does the chicken or turkey rejoice that it is being made a religious day specialty. It flaps / squawks around till the very last desperately trying to escape. Now, I have heard a lot many muti-colored, robed, wise men of various religions espouse as to why the suffering of the bird and the beast is acceptable to the human and again point to various printed paraphernalia about its thus exemption. But if God really made all beasties for the table, would there have been such exquisite thought and execution and attention to detail? If the suffering God is the key theme in substantiating God's love of man, shouldn't man at the very least, love helpless beasties? Doesn't love spring from the same source / seed within the human mind, be it love of God, art, film noir, pet, chick (both types), sheep, beef, etc? Thoughts?

  • The God of no conflicts - 3?

I am a good person. I am hard working, honest, decent, civil, help my fellow man / beast / environment within my means, respect others, love my family, a good parent, spouse, child and sibling and a vegetarian.

I believe in God but don't practice any religion. I say thanks to the almighty but stay away from god men, holy men, prophets, saints and other assorted, alleged representatives of God both current and historic. I take the good in all religions and practice it.

Am I a good human being? If yes, isn't that all that matters? If not, why not? Logical answers are welcome.

  • The God of no conflicts - 2?

How can there be no conflict in the concept of Heaven and Hell and Armageddon / Judgment day etc.? On one hand, everyone who believes in God believes in the omniscience and the omnipotence of it. Which automatically means our lives are predetermined. Then how can God 'punish' us for our sins which technically are preordained events? Why can't God step in and do damage correction? What is it waiting for? The right moment? What happens to all the good people who have suffered and died before Armageddon? What about their 'right moment'? How are the survivors for Armageddon chosen? Or does Armageddon happen after all have suffered and died? Then what is the point in Armageddon? Why can't God just have all good people? Why does it need sinners? I don't buy the argument that 'we need the bad to better know the good'. If the God was smart enough, then it wouldn't need comparison but can make it seem good enough in isolation. Why is the common perception of God seems to rate it with such low IQ?

What if the guy who is being braised in hell 'really' repents and is sorry. Isn't God bound to forgive him? If he doesn't citing 'time's up' or 'you should have repented earlier', then, isn't he a God of deadlines and not a God of compassion? Why does the understanding of God require suspension of God given intelligence and reasoning? Why are all the so called 'enlightened' people nasty, arrogant and intolerant?

Is there any answer other than blind, unquestioning faith? I don't want any quotes from the scriptures either. They raise more questions in themselves.

  • English Mastiff Behavioral Question?

Hi. My 14 month old Male Brindle English Mastiff is healthy and growing nicely but is still behaving like a gigantic puppy dog wanting to be friends with everybody and everything. While that's not bad at all, I was wondering at what age do they become the stately guard dogs they are reputed to be. Obviously, I am not keen on any sort of aggression in him (God forbid) but I am just wondering when he will stop "frolicking" around. As you can imagine, a 170 pound dog "frolicking" is a tad, well, destructive...hilarious yes but destructive nevertheless. Please advise.

I would like to know the length (from nose to tail), height at the withers and weight by week at 6 weeks and till say, about a year. Thanks. I realize that each dog is different and this is just to get a general idea.

  • Is my 43 day old English Mastiff puppy okay?

I got Simba via a 3 hour flight 2 days ago. Though he eats, poops (good consistency) and piddles ok (almost after every meal, waking up etc.,), he is very lethargic and has little or inclination to play. I saw videos of similar age group pups on the web and they are far more active. He is eating 3 times a day (a mixture of Eukanuba adult - breeder said puppy formula has too much protein, fat etc and thats what he's been on at the breeders - and cerelac with water). I crate him for now and even when he is out for his meals and play (I try to make him for about 10 mins at a time - nothing rough), have confined him to one room. In addition, he is not more than 3 kilos. I have seen again on the web that pups his age are far heavier. He is my first OEM. I have a 2.5 year Golden at home and he was MUCH more friskier at this age. My vet says to give him a week to settle down (if there are no other physical symptoms than lethargy). Any ideas on how I can get him to be more active?
