  • Do you discuss sex with your young adult children?

My daughter and I are very open with each other. We discuss it "all". I just want to know how common this is. I think it is a good thing, but I know I still need to be the mom in this situation.

  • What to expect when exercising after 40?

I have been going to the gym for 2 months now. I go 4 to 5 times a week and I usually do 30 - 45 minutes of cardio (treadmill or elliptical) and then weight machines. I have been watching what I eat also. I am in my mid 40's and need to get rid of about 40 lbs. I have can tell a good difference in the way my clothes fit and look, however, I have only lost about 4 lbs. I would like to know when I can expect the scale to start moving. I am planning to continue even if I don't see huge results because I have so much more energy and feel so better. Any suggestions?

  • Which pieces of chicken do you cook together when Frying Chicken?

I am a southern cook. I fry chicken a lot for my family. I have always fried the white meat together and the dark meat together. Usually, I can fry all eight pieces in just two batches. My question is this: which pieces of chicken should be fried together? Am I correct to fry the white / dark batches together, or has anyone had better results frying the big pieces (breast and thighs) together and then the smaller pieces (wings / legs). Thanks!

  • How can I change my hair color back to the natural color or a lighter color?

I have been using permanant dye on my dark brown hair for about 10 years. If there were no color on it at all I would be 50% gray. I don't really want to go gray, but even when I use a light brown color on my hair, it looks really, really dark. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to go lighter.

  • Gastric Bypass, Lap Band, or Neither?

I am writing because my mother has been recommended to have gastric bypass surgery by a doctor. She recently had a thallium (?) treadmill and catherization that showed no heart problems. She weighs about 245. She has trouble with her knees because of arthritis and cannot walk very far. She was considering the lap band procedure to loose weight. She is in her mid 60's and has always been over weight. She has asked for my opinion and I am hesitant to give it because I am not well informed on either of these procedures. I would appreciate comments from users who have had them done, or know a lot about them, possibly by having friends or family who have had the procedures. I'd also appreciate any comments from health professionals. Thanks!

I will be teaching social studies and science to approximately 75 4th graders this year. I have been teaching for quite a while, but this year I will be teaching 3 ninety minute blocks. I would appreciate suggestions from any teachers who may have taught a 90 minute block. I am also looking for fun and exciting suggestions for teaching these content areas. I have contemplated teaching science one week and then social studies one week. I have also thought about teaching 45 minutes of each subject daily. Thanks for the help!

  • Help me give my daughter good advice about a relationship?

My daughter has recently become involved with a boy that lives a few hours away, but is attending the same college (here in our hometown). They have told each other that they love each other and she feels that the relationship has been going well. He told her the other day that when he graduates next month that he is not moving back home, which is just 2 hrs away, but to a another state that is about 9 hours away. He has a few family members there, but his mother and brother live in our state. She is extremely upset because she loves him. I have told her that the ball is in his court. She is only 18 and has 3 more years of college here. He could choose to stay in our state just as easily as move away. My opinion is that if he loved her enough that he wouldn't move. What do you think? I don't want to lead her wrong. We are very close and I want to help, but still want her to make up her own mind about the relationship. It seems that he wants everything his way and his wants are more important. Help?

  • What do I tell my daughter about a relationship?

My 19 year old daughter is in a fairly new relationship with a guy that is a couple of years older than her. They really like each other and I think things are moving along nicely. She is in college and will be for 3 more years. She lives at home. The guy is graduating and is talking about moving several states away. She has asked me what to do about the relationship since we are really close. I want to give her good advice. Her question is this - should she continue the relationship since she really likes him or should she hold off on getting too serious because of the heartbreak she will experience if he moves? She thinks he really feels the same about her and is also wondering if she should say anything remotely close to asking him what he expects from the relationship if he is moving.

  • How many moms out there are reading the Twilight series?

I read the first book because my daughter begged me to. Then when the movie came out she talked me into going to the movie and now I am reading New Moon. I really like it and was surprised because I am 43 and never liked vampire movies. I was wondering how many moms are fans of the series.

  • Do most people in their 40's have a large group of friends?

I am a teacher and I am friends with several of the people I work with. We get together a few times a year and go to the movies, out to dinner, etc. However, other than that, I mainly spend time with my husband, teenage children, my parents and my sister. Am I weird? I had best friends throughout my high school years, but I really don't have one now. I consider my husband my best friend and have since we have been married for the past 24 years.
