  • Is this possible college/working wise?

I was wondering if it would be possible to get an A.S degree in psychology, work for a few years then go back to school for my B.S.

I know it's possible to do this with Masters, I just want to know if it applies with Bachelors.

  • What exactly is a relationship?

Hey, I'm 18 and never really truly dated someone. Sure I've had my crushes and heartbreaks. Ended up unintentionally asking a girl out then calmly broke up with her on good terms (we both new it wasn't going to work out.), but I've never really been in a real relationship. Rather, how do you start one?

I'm a shy type of guy that hesitates plenty of times, but I do push myself when I know I need to and for this reason I don't even know who I want to enter a relationship with. I just want to get it right, but not risk entering the wrong one. So when do you know who you should enter a relationship with? How do you decide on that person? And what should you do after you start that relationship to keep it going?

I'm sorry if this is a lot to ask but would be very grateful of any advice.

  • Discouraging others, why does it happens?

As each child in humanity grows in every era known to mankind there has been a trend, adults would discourage children to reach out for their dreams. In almost all cases this seems to be due to fear. Many would simply laugh off the child's dream as a joke which is a practice more known today as trolling or discourage them form even reaching out towards that dream. Then we have forms of entertainment that tells us to strive for the dream. I don't understand it, why is society seemingly intentionally messing with a child's mind?

Why is it that the adult world say no, but the entertainment world says yes? Both are ways a child currently builds his or her personality and character, but they don't simply seem to agree on an important issue a child/teen/young adult must go through. What should they do with their life?

To me this doesn't make any sense,

But this explains why young adults continually, generation after generation proves to be a bit wild. They have no direction in life, no purpose or meaning because each time they find one they are both shot down by those around them AND raised up by the very thing that initially gave them that purpose. Could someone tell me their thoughts about this?

  • What is the difference between a living being and an inorganic object?

I've already posted this on the biology section but have decided to move this to the philosophy because it seemed more suited here. (I just sent to to biology without a second thought.)

It's a thought that caught my eye. Just like living beings a rock changes, adapts according to it's environment. It even "reproduces" (Empathies on the quotations) by the means of the rock cycle. It certainly reacts to stimuli. I kick it and it flies, of course it only reacts according to physical means but there is still a reaction.

In the argument of consciousness in all honesty there is no definitive proof that anyone around you is conscious, they could all just be following a program called the human brain. Everyone around you could just be a "biological machine" and you would be the only conscious person around. We can not measure consciousness through scientific means at this present moment. The best we can do is measure awareness which is not consciousness.

So ya... what exactly is the difference between a doll from a human. Not saying we should all digress into only communicating to a doll, but studies have shown that if a doll (or robot) seems human enough there would be no difference in the way we treat them.

What does it mean to be "living" in this case?

  • Why do good people do bad things?

Whenever I walk around the city I see plenty of people do horrid things. Most of them at first glace seem like good people. I see this in an even more personal level, my friends who are obviously good people make poor choices they know that are poor or at least have a sense of it. So why do good people do bad things? Are there really bad people? Or just misguided?

  • Is life based off of a static nature? or a probable one?

Is there a destiny to our life? or are our choices are really choices?

I was reading a science blog when I came upon a post that reminded me about the double slit experiment and how observation removes the probability factor in it, forcing the electrons to act like particles and not waves.

There are plenty of stuff in life that depends on probability (finding lost items, guessing for an answer) and many stuff that are made to increase the probability on something (good luck charms, studying, prays) so if our lives are of a static nature all most of these things (including studying) are of no meaning because everything we have done was already planed. There is no probability at all in our lives. In a sense, we are just living out a movie and slowly rolling our way to the ending credits. (Even you studying was planed and I am just using studying as an example, nothing more.)

In the other case, if life was of a probable nature than everything (including studying, charms, pray) really do increase the probability of something good happening to you (like passing a test) against the probability of something bad happening (such as failing that test).

Normal physics seems to point towards the idea that our life is static, but quantum seems to point the other way. I personally believe our lives are of a probable nature and there are many things in life that can change the probability of our course through life. What do you guys think? Do we have a choice in our journey through life or are we all just going along with a static evolutionary plan?

  • Why is there reality?

Our senses gives information of the outside world to our brain. Through this information our brain tells our consciousness what is going on in the world. The problem is that our brain can misinterpret the information our senses tells it, meaning the brain is really creating a reality for our consciousness to focus on and the reality we see everyday might not even be real. My question is why is there a reality that does not seem to change according to our consciousness? Why is there a "real world" and why do we have the capacity to create a "dream world"?

In a strange way you can take this question as "what is the meaning of life?"

P.S. I wonder, even though the probability of someone giving an answer that has depth in it's meaning is low, why do I ask? I guess it's just me holding onto hope.

  • Meditation question!?

While I meditate or just simply let my own mind wonder, I often end up fighting, and I often get beaten up by my own mind. I try at times to take control of the fight, but just as quickly as I make a come-back in the fights my own mind takes me out again. I was wondering if there is a reason for this, and what could I be.
